I was right about taking Mark Clayton with the 20th pick

I am now more convinced than ever that we'll regret taking Marcus Spears instead of Mark Clayton with the 20th pick. Parcell's passion for defensive lineman blinded him into making the wrong pick. I know there were some in the war room who wanted Clayton. He would have been a great pick. He's going to have a great career.

I'm not saying Marcus Spears will not have a great career. I'm still hopeful that he will have a very good career. I'll just say that it seems much more likely that Clayton will change the outcome of many games over the next several years, while it would be difficult to say the same for Spears.

By the way, I also still think I was right when I said Mark Clayton will have a better career as an NFL WR than Matt Jones.

What are you talking about, bro? You predicted Spears would be Rookie of the Year right here:

No, you weren't.

Marcus Spears is a starter.

Clayton would of been a 3rd or 4th WR at best.

We made the correct pick.

If they say hindsight is 20/20, then looking right in front of you is very bad. Rack, I hate to break it to you bud but you lack the required talent of foresight. You have hindsight down but for all you know, Spears will flop next week and Clayton will shine like a star.

Let's wait until 2007 to say that Clayton or Spears was the right pick.

NO NO NO. I said "rookie of the year for the Cowboys". As I said in my initial post in this thread, I like Spears. I have been a little dissapointed in him this year, but still have high hopes for him. But I never thought he would be close to NFL rookie of the year. Heck, I wasn't even right about him being the Cowboys rookie of the year.

that's too funny. how did you know that? I know you did not just go and do a search? And if you remembered that post, I'm even more afraid of you.

For real - that's what I was thinking. I wrote the post and I didn't even remember that I wrote it. Wow! Sitting Bull must spend a lot of time sitting in front of his computer. I've got to say though - that's amazing recall or investigation or whatever it is.

Spears has outplayed Clayton this year. Clayton just plays a more visible "Fantasy Football" position.

You are correct.

I wouldn't expect to find many takers for your position here though.

If I had to do it over, I still wouldn't take Clayton or Jones. Look, you can get lucky by picking two players who succeed despite defying convention but every year, you have players like both of these guys who fail to live up to their reputation. Clayton is an undersized receiver who isn't fast enough to get separation deep. He got a lot of his passes in a west coast style offense in which he turned short little out patters into big plays. That's a great talent to have but it's rather one dimensional and not worthy of a first round pick. Jones is an athletic phenomenon but a huge questionmark. He was a gamble. I don't fault BP for passing up these players.

I hate to break it to YOU, but you've got as much football knowledge as the cigar I just flushed down the toilet.

The better player THIS YEAR and for the future is Marcus Spears. Just cuz he doesn't play a position that gives him "Sexy" stats doesn't mean he's not a good football player.

You just got owned. It's better to laugh it off and admit defeat. Let it go bro! :)

You could be right! But, it is just so hard to say at #20.......Spears was more of the need pick at that time......but Clayton is looking very good.

O.K. so Clayton helped you win your fantasy league. I'll give you that. Glenn hurt me in the long run. But Clayton vs Spears is a stretch. Spears causes intangibles that don't show up in the post-game stats. Nice try though.

BTW, is Clayton related to Dan Marino's Clayton?

Spears will be a mighty cog in our 3-4 for years to come.

Heath Miller was the guy we might regret not drafting but you can't draft them all!

We will go get a speed WR this draft.

I typed your name and "Spears" in search and it was the third post that came up. It took all of 10 seconds. For the record, I wasn't trying to show you up. I just wanted to see what you'd originally written. I love being right and gloating as much as the next guy. For better or worse, nobody can escape their post history on this board. I remember wanting us to draft Matt Jones with our second first rounder after a trade down. In hindsight, however, I like the Spears pick.

Look it up! I never said Spears would be Rookie of the Year. Since Sitting Bull is such a stickler for details, he needs to "man up" and admit that he misrepresented my statement about Spears. I predicted he would be the "Cowboys rookie of the year". Huge difference. What I actually said about Spears in no way contradicts my original statement in this thread.

Don't hold your breath. I don't owe you anything. I even clarified that I wasn't trying to show you up, simply surprised when I looked for your original "prediction" and found that instead. You should let it go. I didn't come after you. But if you want to stand by your posts, then explain why you deserve credit (the implied point of this thread) for predicting we'd regret passing on Clayton for Spears, when you posted things like this before the draft:

Hey, I'm a stickler for details.

Spears will be a solid player like Russell Maryland (who certainly was not worthy of the #1 pick overall) or Greg Ellis, but if you are expecting 10 sacks out of him a year- forget it. He's not that kind of player.
