I Was Wrong About Joseph Randle

In the NFL, it’s okay to say “I’m wrong.” As much as we want to pretend that we would be the perfect coach or general manager, nobody and I mean nobody gets everything right 100% of the time. And in the NFL, the sooner a team can acknowledge they are wrong, the quicker they can find a solution.

NFL writers mis-evaluate players all the time. I mean, that’s why we (us writers) aren’t in the league, right? (Don’t answer that.) Today, I’m going to admit that I was wrong about Dallas Cowboys’ running back Joseph Randle. Here’s where I was wrong about Joseph Randle.

When I watched Joseph Randle in college, I had no doubts about his production. I just wasn’t exactly sure how it would translate to the NFL. In his sophomore and junior seasons at Oklahoma State, Randle ran for 2,633 yards on 482 carries (5.46 YPC) and scored 40 total touchdowns in the Big 12. He was ultra productive and earned first team all conference honors during his junior year. But then the NFL Combine came and here is how he performed compared to the rest of the running backs at the event since 2000:

I said during the off-season that we didn't really see enough of him to know one way or the other if he could play.

I don't think that you have been proven wrong just yet. I think he is reasonably good, but I just don't know how he would fare with a large amount of carries.

Reports indicate that he was wearing 10 pairs of underwear and had a dozen bottles of cologne in his pockets when the ran that forty.

Not nearly enough body of work to make a conclusion about Randle, but I don't see anything special about his game. I wouldn't want to rely on him as a starter, although behind this offensive line he could probably be fine.

I have my doubts about him as a feature back. But as a 5-10 carry/game RB, I think he brings good value given his versatility.

I have no problem with him, just let me have a look at Williams while we're at it. Then I can decide if we need to sign Murray.

ABQJr. always liked Randle but I always thought that he ran to high and with not enough power. This past season, he seems to have improved in both areas. I agree with Walker and what he posted.

The other thing is how he will handle money, if he were to be given a new contract. That might be more of a concern then his ability to carry the load.

Why does he need money? He can just take stuff for free. Record-scratch.......OK, on second thought...

I too thought he was a little slow and small in TC but pleasantly surprised how he finds holes and his burst of speed. He also runs tough and finds positive yards when there is nothing. Don't know if he can handle a lot of carries but in my book he has 2 of the top 10 runs from any dallas ball carrier this year vs Sea and Jaxsnvl. Just my opinion.

well, apparently, he did enough wind sprints running from cops with the undies that his 40 time was good, until he got caught of course

I'm surprised he didn't get drafted by the team in Pittsburgh. That really would confuse some people. Is he a Steeler or stealer?

Maybe he pull a Deion and play for the Pirates too.

Randle doesn't look slow and small getting to the line this year like he did last year. His leg drive has been impressive. It's too small a body of work to put him down as a bust just yet even if you can definitely take him out of the very good to elite conversation. He got into trouble and that limited his contribution but when he has been in he has made plays.

He is only 22 years old too. Garrett talks about him like he is a little kid.

I think he should get more carries. He has excellent vision, quickness and elusiveness. He could end up being our Orlando Scandrick of the offense and turn adversity into something to build on. He did get his first touchdown against Jacksonville after all the controversy.

I thought he was meh his first season but he has really stepped up his game here recently however, we've seen other backs look really good with limited touches and then disappear when they get featured. Hard to say either way but I suspect this O-line makes a world of difference. The thing that has impressed me most is that he still makes people miss when the blocking is blown so there are some flashy flashes in the ole pan right now.....
