I thought it would take a full season for this defense to show some heart. That evidently is not the case.

Now this assumes the JETS are a play-off team.

But even so, the defense played with heart and showed talent. Lee will end up being the leader of this defense by the end of next year. He has all the tools and once he learns the game and all the nuances, he will be what Bradie James never was.

If the team can get corner backs, this will be a top defense under Ryan.

The offense showed something, as well. It is still early, and the attacking D of the JETS did confuse our new guys occasionally.

But there were some plays that clearly showed our offensive line has the potential of being great in the future.

The screen to Murray showed a guy that once assimilated in the offense he will be a terrific addition.

Jones blocked like a real man tonight.

Dez, please stay healthy, you have the real potential of being the best in the game.

Even Otree showed me a little something.

However, I have said for the longest time I see something in Romo that is not right. He has such skills and can do some marvelous things.

But he slips into the sandlot game so easily and doesn't understand protecting the ball and protecting points is more important than chucking logic and taking too many risks.

Some will say it was the blocked punt.

But the turnovers again is what lost the game. We could have survived a blocked punt if not surrendering points on turnovers.

I firmly believe this is as good as it gets with Romo.

And we just gave him an extension.

There are some things that suggest a very bright aspect of the team.

Then there are some things that suggest the focal point of this franchise will never get it done.

That is tough to reconcile.

We didn't extend Romo. The last 3 years void if he's still on the roster in 2013

Thanks TD

Jones- The stats don't show much for him, but this guy was a work horse he worked for everything he got.

Realized it's as good as it gets for Romo a few years ago.

I'll have to hop in line for my serving of crow, too (so far). Defense made me so proud tonight. Before tonight I would have bet my shorts that the reason we would have lost would have been the defense. So great to see penetration up front again.

They looked great tonight but lets wait until we face some better passing attacks before we anoint.

But you're right they exceeded all expectations and Sean Lee made me a happy man.

Alan Ball played a great game too.

Pretty good assumption, two AFC Championship games in a row.

No shame in losing, just hate to have the win and piss the bed like that.

Solid post

Our defense surprised me tonight. They played more than wel enough to win, even down three corners.

The receivers played well enough to win.

The O-Line struggled, but played well enough to win and actually played well in the second half.

Romo played well enough to win...and then threw it all away in two plays.

This was a well coached team we saw tonight that got done in by a QB who was supposed to have finally "gotten it". That kills me because I love Romo so much, but he's not the guy.

The turning point, IMO, came late in the game (on the series in which the punt got blocked, I believe). Dallas picked up 8 yds on 1st down, and ran the ball the next two plays without picking up the two yds. Choice got the call on the 3rd down play and got stuffed. If they could have picked up that 1st down, they run a lot more time off the clock and maybe even score. That series, btw, was what I believe caused Garrett to call pass plays on the goal line when Romo eventually fumbled. The couldn't pick up two yds away from the goal line in two carries, picking up 3 yds right on the goal line is even tougher. When they didn't pick up that 1st down, I had a bad feeling that it would haunt them, and it did.

Let's wait till we face some better passing attacks with our 3 top CBs out before we anoint? I see...........

I guess that's the difference between pessimism and optimism. I see it as we faced 3 pretty good WRs in a hostile environment with our top 3 CBs out and I'm thinking I can't wait to see the D play with these guys back.

You, on the other hand, saw the D decimated but won't give credit till they face a better passing attack?

Sanchez's offensive line is the one reason they made it deep in the playoffs the last two years. We won't face too many more like it this season.

The gnashing of teeth and rending of garments over the run defense was all in vain. We looked pretty damn good on that side of the ball.

I wish that Felix or Murray could have hauled in that pass in the late third where we had run the same thing the play before. Looked like he had a lot of green in front of him.

If the run was called to the right instead of the left, he might have scored. He had one linebacker on that side to beat, and the secondary was downfield. Damn the luck of the draw on that one. :banghead:

No I give them credit. They played outstanding tonight.

I'd just like to gather more information before I anoint.

Is that fare?

Agreed, I love what I saw from the team tonight. Romo made a couple bad decisions, we had some bad break injuries and the punt block but I'm excited about this team! The offensive line did a good job for a bunch of young guys together for the first time.

Once we get our secondary healthy, we would be a very good team. Glad to see some optimism among a load of negativism. Not happy about the loss but we outplayed the Jets, and the defense was a peasant surmise.

I think we may have a better HC this season but I still think we need to replace our OC.

JG stil sucks at play calling and he still doesn't have a good feel for personnel. It used to drive me nuts when he would send gimpy Barber out on sweep plays. He did the same stupid thing with Dez tonight. I don't understand why he keeps insisting putting gimpy players out to fail.

Very good post and insightful read.

Sometimes, I will admit that I wonder if Romo has already peaked. He's a very good QB, but he still hasn't reached an "elite" level in my eyes. Tonight was a golden opportunity for him to put away a very good team, but somehow he found a way to give them life. These are the kinds of games where elite QBs establish their rep.

I have firmly been on Romo's bandwagon, but my patience is beginning to run thin. This is his sixth season as the starting QB, but I still tend to see rookie mistakes from this man. I get tired of hearing the media criticize Romo and saying he'll never win it all, but no matter how much I want to fight and ignore it, I will have to eventually accept the reality of who he is: a good QB who somehow finds a way to elude being in the elite, championship-caliber category.

I really want to believe in him, but he always finds a way to disappoint me, and tonight he did just that.
