I won't buy a cell phone without a removable battery

I disturbed by the trend with iPhone and Samsung making phones whose batteries you can't replace. I would never buy a car whose battery you can't replace, and I'm the same way with cell phones. I've replaced the battery in my Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and it made a huge difference. Plus, I carry around an extra battery that's fully charged because you never know when your battery will be low and you don't have access to a place to charge it. If I notice my battery is low, it's easy to just change out to the other battery.

I'm a big fan of Samsung phones, but I plan to write them to tell them I won't buy any phone without a removable battery. I see that LG makes phones with removable batteries. I'll stick with my Note 4 for now, but if I decide to replace it, I'll google Android phones with removable batteries.

I understand they're going with non-removable batteries to make the phone thinner, but that's not the most important thing to me. My Note 4 is thin enough for me. I know there are charge devices you can get that are super batteries that let you charge your phone anywhere, but that's of little consolation if your phone's battery is weak and you have to use that thing all the time. For me it would be worth it to be able to buy a new battery when the one I'm using gets weak. This is a consumer market. Companies can compete best when they provide customers what they want.

How much thinner do phones need to be?

Every year they advertise that they got the phone .5mm thinner or some insignificant amount.

I hope consumers will speak out. I don't want to see phone manufacturers get microsoft disease where they come out only with features that they think people should want rather than features that people actually want. There's a reason why Windows phones aren't popular. Companies making products are supposed to serve us to earn the money we pay them and not the other way around. I know I'm not the only consumer who wants a phone with a removable battery.

They stopped making phones have changeable batteries to force users to upgrade their phones rather than replace their batteries. (mo money, mo money, mo money)

Consumers have spoken out, but that hasn't changed their minds. The only way you get this to happen is by court order forcing companies to allow this. The courts have done similar things before to protect consumers. Though good luck getting that done in the future with all the new judges being assigned. They are pro-business, not pro-consumer.

Good points. At least for now you can still vote with your dollars. There are still phone models with changeable batteries that you can buy.

Replaceable battery and SD Card were my two main concerns with cell phones over the years.

For the reasons you have mentioned. Although My note 4 battery still is good (surprises me) the SIII I have now the battery can drain faster and could use another battery but I only use it as an MP3 player when I mow or do outside work. The other SIII we had (wife got one at same time then switched back to apple)...I gave to a co worker and they had to buy a new battery as it would drain really fast.

With that said...it is shrinking down to LG and some up and coming Chinese brands that you have to buy off contract. And even some of those Chinese newer ones, as good as they are and some are good, they are starting to trend away from replaceable batteries.

It seems it is something that is just going to happen and I figure me complaining about will do no good when I get a new phone.

However I will still hold on tight to SD Card slot.

I am not paying the price they want for a higher space count on a phone when I can get them much cheap in SD Cards and also have the ability to have more than one SD card with different content on different ones and can change by just taking one out and putting another in within a minute.

For instance I got one that is all music. I have another one where I put a bunch of videos (movies and or shows) on the card.

So for me right now...the SD Card is the deal breaker for me...If it does not have an SD Card slot...won't get it.

I see the S8 has it...however I am not sure the new Note will or not, although If the new note is as big as rumors say (bigger than the note 4)...I probably will get the S8+ as it is about the same size. I don't need anything bigger than my note 4.

Micro SD card is also an important issue for me. I'm also a Note 4 user, and no SD card slot is also a deal breaker for me. If there's some kind of survey I can take on features I want, I'll mention both replaceable battery and (micro) SD card slot. I always buy phones out of contract anyway, so it's not a big deal to me if I cant' get it through my provider.

I'll go back to a flip phone before I spend hundreds on a phone with no replaceble battery and/or no card slot

Never knew they made phones without a removable battery. I've learned that a cell phone can still be tracked IF the battery is in the phone. IF you take the battery out, obviously it can't be tracked anymore. That's probably why they have phones with batteries that can't be removed. I have a Samsung s5 and the battery is removable. It's a nice phone, cost a lot, but it has a lot of bugs in it. Not too happy with Samsung thus far. To top it off, the phone broke 3 months after I picked it up at Verizon. Thank goodness I had insurance on it. I then received a refurbished phone. So technically, I paid for over $700 for a refurbished phone. Argh....

I can't stand all the apps that came with my phone. I only use one or two of them. That's like ordering a certain cable tier and you only watch 2 channels. Why do they have all these apps on our phones. The consumer should have some say so in this. Have some phones with no apps at all. It's a waste of space. Whose idea was that anyway? Another bug they need to get rid of.

Bloatware is another one of my pet peeves. There's some app on my phone that keeps reminding me that my SIM card is not from Verizon. My service is through Cricket. When I visited Switzerland, I had service through Migros. All the while, the phone has to bug me that I'm not a Verizon customer. I would love to find a way to uninstall that stupid thing. Next phone I get I want to make sure it's rootable. This Note 4 isn't. That was a big disappointment. If you can root your phone, you can uninstall all kinds of crap. Plus you can install special ad blocking apps that are unavailable at Google Play. With a rootable phone you can install a ROM (os) from scratch. That would be cool.

Just replace the battery yourself. If you've ever replaced a cracked screen, then replacing the battery is not much more of an effort (kits on amazon for ~$30). I'm keeping this phone for as long as the OS is still viable/supported.

They have to get this small = .

1.) Place under skin near temple (video conferencing/FaceTime)....

then another = .

2.) Placed behind ear to answer incoming calls (audio)

3. Phone case company = goes out of business

all batteries are replaceable just depends how much work you want to do. I have tried a few different brands when my samsung got long in the tooth and I find that there are other hassles such as with zenfone 3 deluxe gets a little wonky with cell signal because if I provision it with AT&T I lose 4G LTE so i just carried over the SIM from my Note 4. I just bought an unlocked S8+ and getting it up to par with all the apps and stuff I use but now need to use a sim cutter to get my SIM to work with it.

On phones that are water resistant, you will lose that feature if you open it up.

while more expensive there are places that can replace the battery and maintain the waterproofing rating.

I agree. I currently have a Galaxy that has no removable battery and I absolutely hate it. As soon as I can replace it I'm going to and it will be with a phone that has one. Even if I have to go to an older model.
