If I had to choose between losing Garrett and losing Wade I would have to pick Wade.

I just think that the long term success of the Cowboys will be better under Garrett than under Wade. Stewart knows Wade's defense now and that is why he brought him along in the first place. I like Wade, but I think that Garrett will make a great Head Coach. The guy is just flat out impressive every time you hear him talk. I can understand why Jerry was considering giving him the Head Coaching job in the first place before he hired Wade.

I am on board with Wade giving this one more go.

Its just that... unless he gets lucky like Tony "Nice/Great guy" Dungy... we are gonna come up short again.

One other way - this team could win in spite of Wade as HC.

I have little/no faith in this HC/team combo for a playoff run.

JJT wrote in one of his columns that Jerry sat and watched two very good offensive coordinators go on to be head coaches in recent years -- Sean Payton and Tony Sparano. Paraphrasing JJT, Jerry is not going to let Jason Garrett get away.

All I can say is this will be a very interesting January. This team will be under enormous pressure to win in the playoffs, with the futures of Phillips and Garrett in the balance.

wade is definitely laid back. the laid back style can work because tony dungy met lovie smith in the superbowl 2 years ago and both of those guys are laid back. call it whatever you want..... yes, wade is the head coach but he is essentially the DC and garrett is the OC. i love how the media makes it sound like a "problem" that we kept garrett around... :laugh2:. puhhhhlease. having garrett back and running the same offensive system again can be nothing but a plus.

as for parcells.... i appreciate what did for us as far as bringing in talent but IMO he is WAY out of touch with today's players. his tough love approach doesn't fly anymore. it's out dated. what he's doing right now in miami is the perfect role for him... evaluate talent but don't interact with the players.

It will be very interesting in January and almost irregardless of how the Cowboys fare in 2008.

I think Garrett's market appeal will have far more influence on Wade's future than Wade's performance.

Not a knock on phillips but Garret demands respect hardcore. I mean that guy talks and poeple listen. He gave that speach in HK1 and I was even getting inspired. Wade on the other hand would be a nice defensive coach, Nice guy with knowledge...But I just dont know how He will prepare us mentally for the playoffs. He seems a little to laid back.

I know we went 13-3 last year and it's not a knee jerk reaction by any means...I just wonder about Wade sometimes. Hopefully he proves me wrong and brings a Sb to Dallas with his Camp Cupcake ways.

Dear DD: I second that emotion.

Could you (I mean if it is not too late) create a poll? Maybe some options along these lines:

1. I have no trust in wade that he can get us to the Super Bowl.
2. If Wade does not win a Lombardini, give him the ax
3. Give Wade the benefit of the doubts this year and decide in January
4. Wade will take us to the Super Bowl and win!!!

Oh how easily you guys forget.

Wade is brought here to fix the defense. Just because it has improved doesn't mean the problem has been completely patched.

We need Wade right now.

He is one of the better defensive coaches in the league and if we are going to get where we need to go we will have to have Wade with us for now.

I know it is an unpopular opinion but I tend to agree. He is way too laid back for my liking. His comment right before the SD preseason game about mistakes being his responsibility is telling to me. I understand he wants them to play loose but it dont like the his attitude and it makes me question if he can ever get these guys to execute a high level. How many great coaches would take that type of stance with their team. I know Jimmy, Tom and other great sure the heck wouldnt. I seriously question his ability to get the most out of this team.

Regular season champs is what We are right now...I want WAde to get our guys ready when it matters. Get our team prepared mentally and physically so that We can kick some Butt in the playoffs. That is the ultimate goal and that is something He has never achieved. His camp cupcake has been proven to be decent in the regular season...But in the playoffs it's another ball game.
Do you really think training camp has a bearing on the playoffs? Really?

And that vaunted offense really came through the last three games of the year, didn't it?

You do realise we are coming off one of the best regular seasons in franchise history... Correct?

I would rather not.

Garett has yet to actaully do anything. His "great" offense last year scored a whopping 17 points in the most important game of the season. He needs to show me a little more constiency to show he can perform at a head coach level.

Yes, I just dont think he is the guy to get the MOST out of this team. I hope he proves me wrong because he is a great guy.

Of course that offense scored 17 against a defense that held the most prolific offense in NFL history to 14 points in the Super Bowl three weeks later.

I'm just saying.

The Pats aren't clamoring for there offensive coordinator to be the head coach.

The Giants actually played better that game then they did against us.

plus there overrated anyways.

Garret does not have the experience, or as I have mentioned before, the relationships with enough coaches and people around the NFL to put together his own staff. You have to crawl before you walk. Him being a coordinator for a few years is not a bad thing at all.

Wade's ho-hum nature isn't exactly what you envision when picturing all-time great leaders of men. With that said, the players seem to respond well to him, but he absolutely needs to advance in the playoffs this year to show his style works.

Garrett definitely evokes more thoughts of a successful head coach with how he looks, talks and his educational and playing background. With that said, though, he too has never won a playoff game. Yeah, he hasn't had the chance, but he's just like a backup quarterback -- the fans' favorite guy on the team until he actually gets a shot to go out there and prove all those high expectations wrong. I think Garrett's coaching potential is immense, but you never know.
Very good posts, I agree with every word.

Gotta say I feel a lot better about Wade's approach after watching this weeks episode of Hard Knocks. He showed he can get on the team when they need it and he knows when to stay firm. I was really getting worried about him being way too soft and easy on them but it looks like I was worried for nothing.
