I would not start Dak against Philly

Daks record against philly is meaningless, this is a different phil team, the giants and wash are also
new teams, so is dallas.
So you cant go by that type of stat.

Not a bad idea to have dak suited up, just in case, or not to let rush know this game is all his.
let the team know they have to win or lose with rush.

I disagree here.. people point out Dak's record against "good teams" or "playoff teams" all the time.. As if those are static as well. Neither the Eagles, Ratscums or Giants has been the exact same team when we have faced them... but the Cowboys have owned them in all their incarnations with Dak at the helm. Maybe his familiarity with their systems allows him to play faster.. or maybe he just gets up for those rivalry games.. Who knows.. what we do know is that he wins like 80% of his division games. I like having that as the starting point for my team every year - knowing that if my QB stays upright I am going to win 5 division games. You know how big confidence is in sports.. and ownage is one of the biggest confidence booster you can have.

At this stage with whatever mental issues he has on top of rust and recovery, it is unreasonable to assume that he'll automatically score more points than Rush is capable of. Does that mean he should remain benched? No. But he should not be rushed back until he has been told he's 100% and had a couple of weeks of practice. Anything else is a potential recipe for disaster.

It's up to Dak to prove if he can be the QB he used to be or not.

100% agree.. He needs to show up and show out.. or sit down and watch his backup take over. Like I said.. it aint rocket surgery. The beauty is that if the defense continues at its current level, and Moore keeps the running game integrated to the extent he has the last 4 weeks.. Dak will have to do far less to win games than they had been asking him to. So in that sense it should be easier for him to win games.. again with the 450 yard 4 TD guy in our back pocket any time we need him.. That's a win win.

Not if he looks like he looked in game one. He won't be 100% for this game even if he does play (which I doubt at this point). He hasn't played live football in over a month. His mechanics, his accuracy, what he's seeing...all that matters. The Eagles' pass rush could exacerbate all those issues. Russell Wilson wasn't right for a few games after his return. Bring him back against the Lions and Bears...hit the bye week and come back close to 100% for the Packers, where we really need him to be hitting on all cylinders.

I’ve said all along that Dak should start if and only if he’s prepared and looks good in practice. We won’t know that, so we’re left to trusting the coaches.

I don’t sweat one game like the opener.

I'd might dress him but I wouldn't start him. If Dak goes in there and he's rusty and throws 2 picks and Dallas gets rolled next week. It won't be good for him.
I would start Cooper Rush until he loses. That will slow down the QB controversy thing that the media is trying to push right now.
Gotta stay with the hot hand...

I trust McCarthy. I don't trust Moore. And god knows you never trust the player coming back from injury. The training staff will tell if he's fully healed and his work during the week will tell if he's fully recovered. As I said in another post, this not being a lower body injury he will have been able to do all the footwork and mechanics drills while he has been out. I really think those things play a far bigger role in his accuracy than the thumb will.. because football players play with pain on most of their bodies all the time. As long as there is not scar tissue causing loss of range of motion and strength his ability to "spin it" should come back pretty quick.

It's a tightrope man.. Because if you bench Rush at the first sign of trouble that sends a bad message.. and if you bench him before he loses one that also sends a bad message.. but if you never bring your starter back when he's healthy that sends a bad messages.. The only thing I will say is that they screwed up the Romo/Dak situation by never finding out if the starter could take a good offense and make it a great one. Now this offense hasn't even been "good" over the past four games.. It's really just kinda been okay.. But because the defense has been killin it we haven't paid the price for it. If this was the 2020 defense this team would be 0-5 right now. I think the coaches know that.. which is why I expect them to get Dak back in there the minute he's cleared to play and is able to practice fully. But no amount of media angst will influence the decision one iota. Which is as it should be.

It is a difficult decision for the Coaches.
No problem, Jerry will make it for them!

He just might.. but Jerry was probably the one who called McCarthy into his office and gave him license to reel Moore's pass happy tendencies in. It certainly felt like prior to that week 1 debacle McCarthy was staying away from the offense.. Now it looks like he's in Moore's ear saying "uh let's not throw it here.. run it again" more than before. I mean 7 straight running plays to close out the game on Sunday. That never happens without somebody pounding on Moore not to get cute and let the Rams back in it with a strip sack return for TD or some such.

You know, we kid around here a lot, but I really wish I knew how much "Coach Jerry" was involved in these kind of decisions.

Oh I think Jerry sits in on as many meetings as he can and I think if he really feels strongly about something he makes it known.. But one thing Jerry is known for in his businesses is surrounding himself with smart people and letting them do what they do. Of course he will interject himself from time to time but I don't think it happens nearly as much as the media makes it out to be. Jerry's good for sound bites.. That's why they stick mics in his face every chance they can do it. But McCarthy coaches the team and McClay by and large find the talent. Jerry's the CEO who takes the bows when the stock soars... but I think he plays about as much a part in how well this team does as most CEOs do in how their company performs. At least from a direct influence standpoint. When it comes to football Jerry want's to be involved and included in everything.. I don't think he wants or needs to be "in charge" of everything. Maybe younger Jerry did.. but not this version..

He went 14/29 in the 3qtrs vrs Bucc's. The whole evolution and one of the reason's we're winning is we are a run first Offense with two complimentary RB's. In certain circumstances i'd give Dak 2 running plays so he doesnt have the option to change to the pass.

One of Dak's problems is that try's too hard, play it simple, run first.
Heck...if we can just stay balanced I would be ecstatic. I went back and watched Romo vs. GBay in 2013 (Matt Flynn at QB) and as much as I like Romo he blew that game playing hero ball. Over and over again he went after Sam Shields, trying to hit home runs to Bryant until it caught up to him in the fourth quarter with 2 INTs. He made the team one dimensional in the second half, even though they started that half up 26 - 3 and were running the ball pretty well with Murray. Green Bay slowly realized that they were simply NOT going to run the ball...and they then slowly ramped up the pressure until they broke through. One of the worst losses of Romos' career. Ugly game in the second half.

I really don't get what Romo's got to do with this discussion? If you think I'm a Romo Dan....err no.
What I'm saying is that our strength (with Zeke and Tony) is the run game. Last season and the Denvor Blueprint was to stop the run and make Dak throw into coverage ....a failure, which may be attributed in part to injury.
Now look at my signature re: Jimmie Ward and what he had to say about the 49ers win....if we don't establish the run (which has been our one offensive success this season), then teams will cover 2 ....even Dak's biggest supporter has to concede that throwing into coverage isn't Dak's best suit.
