I would not start Dak against Philly

On average Dak leads the offense to 10 more points and over 100 yards per game.
that means more passing less running, is that what you want to go back to?
any changes to game plan , strategy, playcalling will lead to different outcomes which may be good or bad.
What good will more points or yards do? that is all in peoples heads, the only stat that matters, is are they winning or not.
Rush is undefeated, dak cant outdo that, he can only match it, and possibly get better stats doing it, or better stats, but he loses.

I wouldn’t start Dak against Philly either. He hasn’t been throwing normally in a month and it’s going to be like heading into a hornets nest in Philly. The last time he returned from an injury he didn’t play well. He’s been out too long to be ready to play or at least start against a team like Philly. However, I would have him on standby just in case things start going horribly wrong with Cooper Rush. If we can’t get anything going offensively with him we can always turn to Dak. Fans would be more forgiving if he doesn’t play well in that situation but if we were to start him and he doesn’t play well the fan base would be livid!

Dak sucked when he returned from injury, because teams just started dropping into zone.

When Dak returned from ahis broken leg with no training camp, he had the best game of his career, mainly because it was pretty much man coverage by TB.

Dak sucks, not because of recovering from injury, he simply sucks because he sucks...

The last time Prescott beat a team outside of the NFC East was 10 months ago (week 13 vs. New Orleans, with Taysom Hill at quarterback). Given how he looked in game one...with a GOOD hand, I think he needs a damn sight better than 3 or 4 days of prep.

He looked like complete trash because the Saints front four could stop the run with rushing only 4. So Dak pretty much did Dak when he had to pass against extra defenders outside the box.

He has not, I mean there were a couple games after that Denver game, Atlanta/Washington where he played beyond anything we’ve ever seen from Rush.

You are right though, Dak was off, funny enough we won many games without Dak being his best however the “just wins” argument was never given to him.

Either way Dak at his best is head and shoulders above Rush’s best.

Rush's just wins don't have the same price tag as Dak's.

And you're right, Dak at his best is light years better than Rush at his best. We haven't seen that Dak for a while. It's up to him to prove he can still do it.

I can’t get into the price tag argument for players because you’re not going to let your franchise QB walk over it. He was the highest price QB and now he’s what the 10th? And the number gets lower every year. Market price for players is what it is. IMO

I was briefly thinking about this situation...Cooper on a short leash vs Philly...but I just assume you ride or die with Cooper.

Dak has seen so few real time snaps this year that asking him to come in when possibly rusty and fail will cause all sorts of news headlines. Hes paid to do it no doubt...but you risk distracting the team with headlines about Dak failing and you risk hurting his confidence. Granted...its all unwarranted...but it could happen. All the trolls main objectives are is to kill Dak no matter if it makes sense or not. 3 bad quarters to start the season against a good team in Tampa after not playing in preseason...and then asking him to come in and beat a hot Philly team after Cooper most likely has the team in a hole is not very smart, imo.

The short leash question is...how much of a hole must there be for Dak to come in and how much time is left in the game. I only put Dak in if the score is close and Coop has looked terrible but Dallas is losing at Halftime. Asking Dak to come in and win a 3 possession deficit at half time risks major controversy. You have to make the decision quick and before the lead gets to big assuming you think winning the game is critical to getting into playoffs.

If the Cowboys were the bench Rush due to ineffectiveness they would need to make the move while the Cowboys still have a decent chance. We can’t get into deep hole or Dak would have little chance. We can’t put him in a position where he’s having to pass every down trying to bring us back. That would almost certainly lead to disaster. He didn’t take any snaps in preseason and only played in the opener so it would be a tough call to go to him. Doubt he’s getting much of any work this week. I’m thinking the Cowboys will stay with Rush for better or worse. No point in Dak re-injuring his thumb.

More points generally means a better chance of winning. Especially if the defense is only going to give up 14 ppg. Unless we believe that Dak can't play any better than what we saw in the opener I think it's pretty reasonable to assume he would have led the offense to more points in each one of the games we just witnessed. Now if he CAN'T play any better than the Tampa game we have a much bigger problem.. but I'm going to have to see more than one game before I decide that's his ceiling. I am fine with Rush staying undefeated.. whether it be because he returns to backup duty or keep playing. I don't need to see my team lose to prove a point one way or the other. My contention is that if the defense keeps holding teams to 10 points.. Dak is going to be undefeated the rest of the way too.

I think we need 30 to win this game if Philly is the great team they are made out to be and if the easiest way to predict the future is basing it on the past.

Moore is in a fish bowl here. Jones Boys and McCarthy have a tough decision to make if they feel this game is critical...short leash Rush or ride or die with him.

Seems like the ride or die situation makes the most sense with a 4-1 team. The short leash option is Hero or Pitchforks. Ride or Die has you at 4-2 with backup and little for the trolls to feast on.

If it were me I think I would start Rush but suit Dak up and have him in the "break glass in case of emergency" container. If Rush struggles or if he's playing okay but you can see the team needs a spark, you bring the prodigal son back in .. he saves the day.. earns his job back and wins back some of the fans who may have been on the fence. If the running game is being stuff and they can't block in the passing game any better than they did in L.A. then having a guy who is a little more mobile might be the difference between winning and losing. And again.. Dak is like 9-3 against Philly.. and one of those losses was a game he only played one series and another was the year they suspended Zeke and Tyron got hurt. Philly has really only been able to legitimately beat the Cowboys with him under center once.. And even that one came after he was not allowed to throw all week after banging his hand on a defender's helmet the week before. Which as I type this makes me nervous about him playing this week. Though as I recall he also had been dumped on his throwing shoulder in that same game so was dealing with two injuries in that one game.. Maybe just having the thumb to worry about he should be good to go. But yeah.. total tightrope for the coaches in this one.

true, I guess we will find out as season rolls along.
I know at some point they will put dak back in due to he is the one with the big contract.
He is also the one the jones boys picked to replace a aging romo, so they want to prove that was a good move, and the only way to
do that is to win at least a nfc champ game with dak.

The defense is playing really well, so either qb may win do to how well they play.
But I think it is also the strategy they use with rush, helps the defense, and when dak is back that will change, and it could affect the outcome of
the games.
Time will tell.

Youre probably my favorite poster on this board...your takes are similar to mine or your make sense when you post something I havent thought of.

The mobility factor is something I hadnt factored...and it makes sense. It still all comes down to timing for me. Asking too much of Dak, even with his pay, is probably going to be a distraction for the team moving forward. You make a great point about mobility and how it could factor into things.

I am a Dak over Rush believer for the record.

He probably makes long posts because he covers every angle as to not leave something out which would lead to trolls coming in.

Daks record against philly is meaningless, this is a different phil team, the giants and wash are also
new teams, so is dallas.
So you cant go by that type of stat.

Not a bad idea to have dak suited up, just in case, or not to let rush know this game is all his.
let the team know they have to win or lose with rush.

If its true Dak averaged 30ppg post Denver game last year even in garbage minutes...thats the guy we need playing. I just dont know if bringing him in against Philly is smart unless we are close and there is still time on the clock to make things happen.

At this stage with whatever mental issues he has on top of rust and recovery, it is unreasonable to assume that he'll automatically score more points than Rush is capable of. Does that mean he should remain benched? No. But he should not be rushed back until he has been told he's 100% and had a couple of weeks of practice. Anything else is a potential recipe for disaster.

It's up to Dak to prove if he can be the QB he used to be or not.
