I would trade Zack Martin for a 1st and 2nd

Not a bad idea. You seriously can't pay 3 to 4 guys top dollar on this line. You either make it work, or get fired. So if a top 3 pick were to offer their first and a player as KJJ said for Martin, sayonara.

I like Martin as well. I am with you there. At this point though if we were thinking of getting rid of OL dollars, you have to consider Tyron first because his injury situation is not going to get better.

Reason I didnt' bring up Tyron is because he' already signed...

The OP's question isn't really off the rails here. If Martin were to want an exorbitant amount of money, and a team offered, say, a top 10 first rounder (and the equivalent second rounder), I think it would be silly to not even consider it.
I suggested a Martin for Thomas, a fourth this year and a second next and was called 10 kinds of crazy.

Yes, it would be a loss. Yes, Martin is a stud. Yes, we would essentially have two guard spots we'd have to fill. But our cap positional spend would be back in whack.

We move Collins inside, Fleming at RT. Maybe new Martin at the other guard. Draft a guard and maybe pick up another guard during cut downs.

I would keep the good players and try to upgrade the not so good players.

Are you certain Smith will come back to form? if not, then you would trade away one of the two best offensive linemen, and then watch the other retire in what should have been his prime for two draft picks?

Maybe all you people who continually want to get rid of the best players on the team because of money need to get your head gear squared away.

Jerry and Stephen will sink the cap all by themselves without the help of the Madden Mob.

Hear me out....

Zack is one of my fave Cowboys but....he's playing hardball and will want a ridiculous contract.

We cant have all our cap dollars tied up in linemen, I wouldn' sign him anyway for the contract he wants so why not throw some trade bait out there

1st and 2nd or two 1sts...whatever

Yeah. I don't think anyone would pay that for him but if they offered that for him he's gone. That's too much draft collateral and cap savings to pass up for any player other than a very select few on this team. Other than a franchise QB or a totally indispensable player you make that deal for almost any and every player on the roster.

What if we traded Martin plus our 1st pick to Cleveland for their #4 overall, Then traded back to #8 or 9 for their 2nd rd pick and a 4th? In the process picking up Roquan Smith and we would get 2 2nd rd picks and 2 4th rd picks?

I'm good with that

I've said this many times. We are WAY over paying for our oline.

Martin will want 15 mill a year. We can't pay that along with Smith, Fred and Collins... all being paid top 5 at their position.

So if we don't and he just walks next year we get nothing.

Now if Smith can only play another year or two, then maybe you pay Martin. In two years we will have to pay 20+ mill to a QB.

I would very much be looking at any deal I could get for Martin.

Yes, I'd hate to lose him, but I'd rather lose him now and get something for him than lose him next year and get nothing.

Our free pass expires when Dak gets paid.
Tyrons deal is so team friendly its funny you say that and we have him until 2020 something with the cap going up every year. Romo is off the books next season. Dez is most likely gone. You can most certainly afford him and Lawerence. Sean lee and witten most likely coming off the books by the time Dak gets his deal. Getting rid of the heart of our offense at any capacity is crazy talk.

Interesting. Not saying I disagree here but I am curious, would you be willing to do the same when Zeke is up for a new contract?

The Madden mob. lol

It's fans that think we can just pay everybody top dollar that are confused.

Why hasn't he been signed yet? Just make him the highest paid guard in NFL history and be done with it.

Smith does present a challenge for us. If he's healthy and can play another 4 years, then you let Martin walk. If Smith can only go two more, then Martin can be in play.

But how is anyone going to be able to predict Smiths future?

Yes I would, in a heartbeat, even more so with a running back who have such a short NFL lifespan

You must have loved the 8-8 years under Garrett. Teams win with playmakers.

When did trying to get your value become "playing hardball"?

I don't see why anyone would be inclined to give this franchise any sort of a deal. That comes with winning playoff games and championship, something the Cowboys haven't done much of lately.

That said, I would take a first and second for Martin in a heartbeat.
