I know some of you will ridicule this OP, and I don't care. I wouldn't be opposed to Mike McCarthy returning. There's something to be said for a coach who, despite all the adversity he's faced, has kept this team in contention to where the playoffs are not out of the realm of possibility.

I remember in 2015 when we lost Romo, and the team fell apart under Garrett for a 4-12 record. This is now twice where Mike has kept this team fighting despite significant injuries to the team.

I think, unless the replacement in mind is someone like Vrabel, I'd rather Jerry give Mike a 3-4 year extension (especially since there's no cap on a coach). If Jerry and Mike are okay with this, I'd like a coaching staff of Mike at HC, Daboll at OC (he did well with Josh Allen in Buffalo, and he can call good plays), and Saleh at DC. That'd actually be a good coaching staff.

I know it's easy to look at a coach like Bill B and point to the championships. However, 1. What's his record without Brady and 2. How does he coach through adversity?

To me, when I see Mike McCarthy coach, I see someone who has, despite Jerry, kept a culture of keeping a struggling and less talented team fighting. It seemed he'd lost the locker room. Yet, especially the last 3 weeks, he's got the team fighting. Sure, he's got his flaws, and every coach does. That said, I love the culture he's instilled of fighting through adversity. He's got a winning record with us.

So yeah, I wouldn't be opposed to a 3-4 year deal for Mike *shrugs*, especially since Jerry can sack him without salary cap consequences.

Have to see how the season unfolds- I’ve been one who believes it was not a done deal that he would he gone but also recognize we are a long way from him being back.

Will depend greatly, on how season unfolds and who Jerry thinks he can land. I’m fine moving on from Mike, however I do think he is a better coach than many give him credit for

No doubt that there's more season left and there's more to be determined. That said, he's a way better coach than he's given credit. Between Rodgers (on PMS), AJ Hawk (on PMS), and Brady today, players seem to respect him. Players understand how he operates. The way he keeps the team fighting, I can appreciate that. If it came down to him or someone like Kellen Moore, Sirianni, or several other options, I'll take Mike.

Im ready for the next coach

Tired of his crappy scheme and the OL has regressed every year hes been here

Look how he uses his best player. Ceedee has probably ran maybe 5 go-routes all season yet he has Mingo playing the X and running them almost exclusively

I'm not saying he's perfect (and that's why I'm thinking maybe Daboll at OC, since he and Mike are both WCO play callers), but the guy can coach. After what I remember from Garrett and Wade in 2010, it's nice to see our team fighting when it's in our recent history for the team to give up in similar circumstances.

I literally just threw up in my mouth.

I can't think of one reason to keep him.

That isn't anywhere close to what he was hired for. He has been an epic failure in Dallas.

And yes the Cowboys are out of playoff contention. Zero possibility of that happening.

It could be a lot worse than Mike knowing the type Jerry hires. I can see a two-year extension to go along with Dak with a way out from both after the 2026 season. With Manning incoming, get the right HC for him

Honestly, with Mike's ability to develop a QB, why not let him try his hand with Manning? Like you said, with the coaches (like Moore) that Jerry might hire, we could do a lot worse than Mike. Plus, you can sack a coach with no salary cap hit. So, why not give him a 4 year deal?

I understand that he was hired to win a championship. However, especially with the kind of coaches Jerry usually hires, I'm okay with Mike staying. Even if we don't make the playoffs, I appreciate the fight I see from the team. I've seen seasons where there was adversity and the Cowboys folded up shop. I remember 2010 when the team basically seemed to give up without Romo. I remember 2015 when the team gave up after Romo got hurt.

This roster isn't very good, compared to last year. Yet, despite the injuries and less talent, he's kept this team fighting. Obviously, id like a coach like Vrabel, but, if he gets picked up and it's down to a Jerey-Puppet like Moore or Mike, give me Mike.

As long as a Jones is running this team, nothing at all matters. A coaching change will not change a thing.

It’s just rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

Why some fans refuse to acknowledge this fact, I will never understand.

I understand that. All the more reason it actually wouldn't be a bad idea to keep Mike around. Do I think Vrabel would even be willing to coach here given Jerry? Not a chance. Given the coaches that probably would work with Jerry, I think Mike might be the best we can do. The culture he's brought to the team where they're battling when I've seen Cowboys teams in the past fold on the season is one I respect greatly.

I wouldn't mind either if McCarthy is back, but I would like for him to manage the team more and hire a better play caller

I think it's a question of who Jerry assigns for him lol. I would think Mike might actually want Daboll when the Giants sack him. Remember how well Quinn fixed our defence? I think Daboll has had the misfortune of being on a really horrible team with a moron at GM that makes Jerry look like a genius. I think Daboll calling the plays (especially with the job he did in Buffalo) would be a great pick up. I think getting Saleh at DC would be amazing. I think getting a couple of coaches who will be wanting to prove themselves like Daboll and Saleh could be really good.

The problem with McCarthy is that he runs an archaic system and is a terrible in game coach. He has instituted some more modern stuff since Dak went out and clearly players like him since they haven’t quit but it simply isn’t enough.

Sure, and it makes me think, what can he do with a guy like Daboll at OC? Give him Daboll (who did well at playcalling in Buffalo) at OC, and we might have something there.

It's a no for me right now, but hey let's see how the rest of the season plays out.
