I wouldn't be opposed to Mike McCarthy returning

Bill belichick is the greatest football coach to ever live. Why would anyone want him?

I wouldn't be opposed to Bill either. Either him, Vrabel, or Mike would be great. That said, how much of that was Brady?

Like I've said, Jerry extending Mike's contract would be fine by me. Other than Bill and Vrabel (and who's to say either would be on board with Jerry hiring them), I might be inclined to keep Mike.

I understand that he was hired to win a championship. However......
Again, that is what he was hired for. At least the NFCCG.

You add in his clock management issues and play calling issues and it just looks worse for him.

It has nothing to do with 2010, or 2015, or comparing the roster to last year.

The Cowboys need a new HC and a new staff. McCarthy and his staff should have been fired after GB. Nothing that has happened since then makes that statement untrue.

Honestly, with Mike's ability to develop a QB, why not let him try his hand with Manning? Like you said, with the coaches (like Moore) that Jerry might hire, we could do a lot worse than Mike. Plus, you can sack a coach with no salary cap hit. So, why not give him a 4 year deal?
Four is too much unless it comes with a new OC/playcaller in a different scheme. No reason to lock in four more years when two-year extensions can be done twice if need be.

Lol, would that be him? Cuz I could see him saying he's had enough of the madness lol. All I'm saying is, if it was announced that it was announced that he received a 4 year extension, I'd be fine with it.
You are being a prisoner of the moment. The Giants were on their last legs at QB...c'mon...this is your Magnum Opus?

Well, let's assume Bill B and Vrabel tell Jerry to take a hike and Ben Johnson goes to Chicago (which I see happening), who would you hire that would work with Jerry?

That's true, I just wouldn't want to deal with a coach on his last year again lol. Maybe a 3 year deal but sack him after 2.

I'm not saying the team is good. In fact, my point is, between the coaches that can work with Jerry (because the Jerry variable does exist) and the horrible team that Jerry built, Mike has actually somehow kept this team fighting. In a perfect world, I'd want Vrabel. However, I could very see him telling Jerry to take a walk through the Amazon at night. So, given the Jerry variable, I wouldn't be upset if Mike returned.

I don't know who all would be available. Until we get near or after the season we won't.

Right, and I'm certainly open to a replacement, but I also wouldn't be upset if Jerry decided to keep Mike. I can see the value in doing it if the coaches that are likely better than Mike tell Jerry to get lost.

All it takes is a couple of Ws against bad teams and all of a sudden opinions change

It's not about the wins for me. It's about the fact I see fight in this team. This team has showed me in the last 3 weeks that, despite not being a good team and being constructed with duct tape and cheap aluminum foil, they will fight their tails off. Obviously, if Vrabel wanted to come here, then Mike would need to move. But, imo, if Mike was to have his contract extended, I'd be fine with it.

McCarthy and his gutless, clueless play calling have to go. The only way I'd keep him is if the only other choice is Zimmer...which is unfortunately our reality.

Or Kellen Moore or Eberflus (who was our lb coach at one point). My point is, especially with the Jerry variable, I'm fine with Mike staying. I think Vrabel might do one interview with Jerry and tell him to get lost after a minute of Jerryisms.

I know some of you will ridicule this OP, and I don't care. I wouldn't be opposed to Mike McCarthy returning. There's something to be said for a coach who, despite all the adversity he's faced, has kept this team in contention to where the playoffs are not out of the realm of possibility.

I remember in 2015 when we lost Romo, and the team fell apart under Garrett for a 4-12 record. This is now twice where Mike has kept this team fighting despite significant injuries to the team.

I think, unless the replacement in mind is someone like Vrabel, I'd rather Jerry give Mike a 3-4 year extension (especially since there's no cap on a coach). If Jerry and Mike are okay with this, I'd like a coaching staff of Mike at HC, Daboll at OC (he did well with Josh Allen in Buffalo, and he can call good plays), and Saleh at DC. That'd actually be a good coaching staff.

I know it's easy to look at a coach like Bill B and point to the championships. However, 1. What's his record without Brady and 2. How does he coach through adversity?

To me, when I see Mike McCarthy coach, I see someone who has, despite Jerry, kept a culture of keeping a struggling and less talented team fighting. It seemed he'd lost the locker room. Yet, especially the last 3 weeks, he's got the team fighting. Sure, he's got his flaws, and every coach does. That said, I love the culture he's instilled of fighting through adversity. He's got a winning record with us.

So yeah, I wouldn't be opposed to a 3-4 year deal for Mike *shrugs*, especially since Jerry can sack him without salary cap consequences.
You’re assuming Mike McCarthy would want to be the Cowboys head coach after this season. He was not offered an extension so he knows Jerry Jones was not sure he wanted MM beyond this season. If Jerry is interested in him now it’s because Jerry was wrong, or a head coach Jerry wants is not interested. Either way that puts McCarthy is a good bargaining position and if he agrees to a new contract with Dallas it will be for a huge increase in what he’s being paid now.

If your lovely sentiments about McCarthy have any validity that means other teams will have an interest in hiring him. Once again, Jerry Jones not being sure about what he’s trying to do is going to cost him.

Oh, no doubt, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mike tells Jerry to get lost too after the season. I'm just saying, if Jerry announced he and Mike agreed to an extension, I'd be fine with it.

Wow, I guess now that the Cowboys seem to get to the easiest part of their schedule, MM is doing fantastic. LOL, this team gives up when they play the legitimate teams in the league…if you just want to remain relevant and and no championship, then why get rid of Garrett? Same results.

MM is total failure and he sure hasn’t made Dak any better. QB whisperer? LOL..
