I'd be tempted to take Mark Ingram

Some of you are nuts if you think the line that Emmitt ran behind in the Super Bowl years was not VERY elite.

I agree that for his entire career, the line was certainly not always at that level. But you combine Moose's lead blocking with that line and (for the most part) I would say a great Emmitt became HOFer Emmitt.

No doubt Emmitt made a good line better great backs do however poor offensive line play can shut down even the best of back.

Emmitt's so good Stepnoski made the Pro Bowl twice playing for Houston.

I'm in agreement about Ingram .. as long as we are talking about in the 2nd round here. :)

To the guy who mentioned Demarco Murray - HECKKKKKKKKKKK NO. An oft injured RB who averaged 4.2 YPC in his final 2 college seasons?

?
I'm pretty sure the OP was referring to taking him in Round 1.
Agreed...pulling the trigger in Rd2 is not that risky.

I think Dallas has the offensive weapons already but we need a line to allow them to use those weapons.

Emmitt was a great back he also had guys like
Erik George Williams

Position: T
Height: 6-6 Weight: 324 lbs.

Born: September 7, 1968 in Philadelphia, PA
College: Central State (OH)
Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 3rd round (70th overall) of the 1991 NFL Draft.

Weighted Career AV (100-95-...): 72 (531st overall since 1950)
4-time Pro Bowler & 2-time First-Team All-Pro (fine print)

and
Mark Matthew Stepnoski

Position: C-G
Height: 6-2 Weight: 269 lbs.

Born: January 20, 1967 in Erie, PA
College: Pittsburgh (school history)
Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 3rd round (57th overall) of the 1989 NFL Draft.

Weighted Career AV (100-95-...): 69 (609th overall since 1950)
5-time Pro Bowler (fine print)

We have problems on the line guys are getting into the back field as soon as the RB gets the ball and NO RB is going to do much on a consistent basis as long as that is happening, not ES nor any RB. I like Ingram but the way you stop him is the same with any back get to them before they can get to the line and you do that with making penatration

:banghead: :banghead:

Its sad that Emmitt in 2001 and 2002 rushed for more yards at the tail end of his career in Dallas with 1021 yds in 2001 and 975 yds in 2002. With Carter, Hutchison, Leaf, and Stoerner as QB.

Yet the most that both Barber and Jones could do was 975 yds by Barber in his best yr, his 3rd season and 800 yds by Jones his best season his 3rd.

The line in 2001 was
LT Flozell Adams
LG Larry Allen
C Mark Stepnoski
RG Kelvin Garmon
RT Solomon Page

In 2002 it was
LT Flozell Adams
LG Larry Allen (3)
Ross Tucker (7)
C Andre Gurode (6)
Tyson Walter (8)
RG Kelvin Garmon (3)
Solomon Page (5)
Andre Gurode (8)
RT Solomon Page (10)
Javiar Collins (4)
And Romo and Kitna were the Qbs for Jones and Barber. Romo needs that emmitt smith type back ala Mark Ingram to take it to the next level as a QB.

1990 ES avg 3.9 a carry that was with Tuinei, Kerr, Stepnoski, Gesek and Newton and Agee as the FB in 1991 Emmitt gains 4.3 per carry and 1500 yards with Tuinei, Gogan, Stepnoski, Gesek and Newton as well as the addition of Johnston at FB

1) Moose was drafted in 1989, 2nd round pick after trading down with the Raiders so he wasn't " an addition in 1991 ".

2) You're proving my point. NONE of those guys were considered anything before Emmitt Smith started running for them.

in 92 another addition is added to the line in Eric Williams.

Eric Williams was drafted in 1991 and started 3 games, so he wasnt " an addition in 1992 " either.

Clueless YES YOU ARE. You want to insult fine I can play that game as well bone head,

You've yet to evolve into a bonehead..

Nobody said they weren't elite. The point is that EMMITT took them to that level.

and go ahead and name the " elite ones " , if you can. Because only TWO offensive lineman played every single year during Emmitt's rushing titles and Superbowls.

I agree that for his entire career, the line was certainly not always at that level. But you combine Moose's lead blocking with that line and (for the most part) I would say a great Emmitt became HOFer Emmitt.

Please.. Emmitt does not play for the Dallas Cowboys and about the only two who might become what they did are Eric Williams and Larry Allen ( Once again, Donalson played in his last years in Dallas. The bulk of his career was with the Colts ). The rest were playing in the league, some LONG before Emmitt, and were considered nothing but average.

Somebody mentioned Step leaving Dallas and still having the same rep ? Yea, well, no Emmitt and Step doesn't get a sniff from Houston to begin with.

Anyway, about Ingram. Fine player, not sure about how well he will do in the pros. He's more Maurice Jones Drew than Emmitt IMO.

We already have depth at RB with Jones/Choice fighting for minutes next year with Barber's probable exit. The league has also shown us that only a super blue-chip, slam dunk RB will go top ten anymore like Peterson/McFadden. The position isn't filled with 25-30 carries guy anymore; you can plug guys in drafted much lower and get results.

If I had my choice we would draft a running back every 2-3 years in the late rounds.

I see virtually no reason to ever draft a running back in the first 2 rounds nor do I see any reason to sign an expensive FA RB. Their careers are way to short and they seem to always be hurt.

It would be wonderful to draft another Emmitt Smith, but there is absolutely no way to know that a player will be as durable for as long as he was.

I do think the offensive line is priority but boy am i looking forward to seeing this guy play.during last year's national championship game, brent musberger compared him to Emmitt.

I love Mark Ingram, the only reason he isn't a top 5 pick is because he doesn't have elite speed(which IMO is the least important attribute for an every down back). Outside of that, he has everything you look for including HEART. Emmitt Smith 2.0, and I would certainly consider him at 9, especially if Garrett is serious about getting back to "The Cowboy Way". The best defense is keeping your offense on the field.

Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson, other than that no RB's taken in R1 really was worth it. Ray Rice would have been.

Look at the Bills who keep taking RB's instead of OL or QB's and whiffing on their one pass-rusher

Stephen Jackson is pretty good. I mean he's no Julius Jones, but then again who is? :D
