I'd be tempted to take Mark Ingram

I am so much higher on his teammate Trent Richardson. Ingram is solid but TRich is spectacular and IMO will be the better NFL RB.

I also like the South Carolona freshman Marcus Lattimore as a surefire NFL star.

It is really hard to judge how good or bad our backs are when defense are getting 1 to 2 yards in the backfield at the handoff. Our guys are fighting many times just to get back to the line of scrimmage. We need to open holes for these guys if we do that I have little doubt they will show they are more than capable of doing the job.

That's the difference between a solid RB and a " special back ".. Emmitt Smith made pro bowlers ( and millionaires ) out of the late Mark Tuini, Nate Newton, and Kevin Gogan. All 3 of them were in the league 6, 5, and 3 ( in that order ) years before Emmitt was drafted and none of the 3 were considered anything more than " average " at best. Tui was a converted DT who was about to be cut before he was switched to OL to fill for injuries. Nate was nothing but a " sideshow " called " the kitchen ", an answer to Chicago's " Fridge ", who was cut by the Commanders and Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL, and Gogan, despite starting his rookie season at LT, got so beat up mentally that he lost his job to Newton for a while.

That's the type of RB we need to find. Of course, it's easier said than done.

China doll. I see the same thing you see, but the guy is a walking injury.

He did not make bad OL players good, he made good OL players better. Right now there are way to many plays where the defense is making contact with the backs before they can get to the line. ES nor any back is going to do much when this is happening. He was a RB not super man and any HC will tell you it starts up front if they do not do their jobs theplay will fail

The Bama coaches (OC and RB coach) basically said that the better back was TRich. That was last year, so I'm not sure if that view has changed.

Name ONE O-lineman ( other than Ray Donalson ) who was anywhere NEAR good before blocking for Emmitt..

Ray Donalson was PRo bowler with Indianpolis and played his last years in Dallas

Emmitt was a great back he also had guys like
Erik George Williams

and
Mark Matthew Stepnoski

We have problems on the line guys are getting into the back field as soon as the RB gets the ball and NO RB is going to do much on a consistent basis as long as that is happening, not ES nor any RB. I like Ingram but the way you stop him is the same with any back get to them before they can get to the line and you do that with making penatration

I like him, but not at nine... and unless we fix the oline it wont matter who is carrying the rock

Ingram reminds me a lot of another 22 who wore the star & is my all-time favorite player, but this team has too many other needs to fill. Besides, since most teams go with 2-3 tandem back attack, their value isn't what it used to be.

I'd rather wait until late in the second day. You can still get an Allen Bradford, RB, USC. He's 5-11, 235, 4.60. This past season, he had 110 carries for 821 yards & a 7.2 ypc. He's projected to go between the 5th & 7th rds. I think we should wait, actually, & go after the top UDFA RBs, myself.

We need to focus on the O'line & secondary positions. D-line could use some help too, as well as another pass rusher.

The year Erick Williams was drafted, Emmitt Smith won a rushing tittle. Erick Wiliams didn't start a game that season until the 8th game in which he almost got Troy Aikman killed.

Mark Stepnoski was drafted in 1989, started as a guard, ended up as a center.

NEITHER of those guys were considered anything before they started blocking for Emmitt.

Believe what you choose but no back can go the job without people in front Jimmy believed that which is why he upgraded the OL. I like Ingram he will not do jack behind this line and until we get it fixed no back will.

Bingo.

Put Adrian Peterson behind this line and he'd still average below 4 yards a carry.

Demarco Murray will be a nobody in the NFL.

He's right about this. Same goes for Travis Lewis. I loved what these guys did for OU but they won't have much impact in the pros.

Now Ryan Broyles will be a big-time player in the right system. I'll say this until he washes out of the league: he is Wes Welker.

I sure am going to miss not having Ingram, but my fantasy team will be taking him.

I could see the Giants drafting him and dumping Jacobs. It would not surprise me to see Ingram win Rookie of the Year no matter who drafts him. I think he will be a special player. Some players just seem to have "it," something special.

If the Cowboys didn't have a gazillion holes elsewhere, it would be nice to draft him. Now if he somehow mysteriously slips down to the ninth pick in the second round, I would have a hard time passing on him.

Obviously you know very little about Cowboys and NFL history.

Jimmy didn't upgrade much. His O-line consisted mostly of players who were on the Cowboys roster and retreads. Nate, Tui and Gogan were already on the roster when he took over. Retreads like Frank Cornish ( Vikings ), Alain Veingrad ( Packers ), and John Gesek ( Raiders ) were discarded plan B free agents from other teams who provided deph. The only 2 O-linemen who were develop during his tenure were Step and Big E.

Emmitt Smith made ALL of them considerably better than what they truly were.

The greatest RB of all time ( in my opinion ), Walter Payton, ran most of his career behind average lines. Not until late in his career was he able to run behind a semi-dominant line.

I'm not saying Ingram is a " special back ". I'm saying the similarities he has with Emmitt are stunning ( from physical to peripheral ), and that makes it tough pass on him for somebody else. I wouldn't draft him with the 9th pick either because he should be available later in the draft, but developing a plan where a trade down in considered should not be discarded.

I get tired of hearing crap like that "I know very little about the Cowboys", I have not missed 1 game since 1965 I know a hell of allot about the Dallas Cowboys evidently you don't. Walker in 1988 gained 1500 yards behind pretty much that same line and Stepnowski started all 16 games at Center in 1990 season. So you want to pop off about **** you know nothing about and act like your Mr Cowboy know it all? You don't what your talking about

As I said Yes Emmitt made a good line better but these guys were not slouches to begin with.

If you're tired, change and start paying attention because it's OBVIOUS that you haven't.

Walker in 1988 gained 1500 yards behind pretty much that same line

And this is one of the examples. You have ZERO clue about what you're posting. The O-line Walker ran behind in 1988 had exactly TWO starters that eventually played with Emmitt ( Newton and Gogan ) and one of them was a rookie that didn't start again until 3 years later ( Gogan ).

LT: Kevin Gogan
LG: Nate Newton
C: Tom Rafferty
RG: Crawford Kerr
RT: Dave Widdell

Rafferty, Kerr, and Widdell never played with Emmitt Smith.

1990 was Emmitt Smith first season and in NEITHER year was Stepnoski considered anything but an average O-lineman, at best.

and as I said: You're CLUELESS..

1990 ES avg 3.9 a carry that was with Tuinei, Kerr, Stepnoski, Gesek and Newton and Agee as the FB

in 1991 Emmitt gains 4.3 per carry and 1500 yards with Tuinei, Gogan, Stepnoski, Gesek and Newton as well as the addition of Johnston at FB

in 92 another addition is added to the line in Eric Williams.

Clueless YES YOU ARE. You want to insult fine I can play that game as well bone head,
