I'd like to see Tony get one series on Sunday regardless

And I'd like for it to be predetermined to be that first series of the 3rd quarter, so there's no hand-wringing about how Dak's playing. I'd like for it to be publicly stated, and that the rationale is we want to give him the benefit of some field time before we actually need him. His preseason was cut short. And if we need him at some point, how much better if he's not throwing his first regular season pass of the season.

But maybe that's just me.

Yeah, it's just you.

Its an overstatement/cliché to indicate you couldn't possibly know as much as that person in the subject matter. Its pretty useless, and is just used to stop people from second guessing one's choices.
Anybody can second guess anything I say all they want and it won't bother me. I'm simply saying that I don't pretend to know it all and I admit it, unlike a lot of people who post regularly on here.

Actually, no... it was "just me," but now it's not. The idea has support.

As it should.

Just making sure we're not edging off the original premise here.

This is NOT about re-inserting Romo as starter. It's not. Look back at the OP.

It's about getting him into a real game in recognition that he's had precious little of that for over a friggin year. There is value to being pro-active to, as someone else said, knock rust off. To get some real game timing with his receivers.

Too easily forgotten just how little he played last year and now practically zero even in preseason this year.

The only way to get Romo in a real game without disrupting anything would be in mop up duty. Last week would have been a good spot for him to come in late had he been activated.

This makes absolutely no sense

You take a calm, tranquil situation, for the most part..

And all of a sudden you want to just pour gasoline on it

No thanks

It's hard to believe, but you actually under exaggerated how volatile playing Romo would be.

If we're gonna stick with Dak, don't play Romo. If we're gonna switch, you play Romo when he's able to, not a look and see audition

The fact that Romo is running the scout team means he is getting daily reps vs one of the top defenses in the NFL at practice. That should be enough to get him ready for when and if he is needed. Most of us on this board like and appreciate what Tony has done for the Cowboys over the years, but putting him in for a series when the game is still on the line is not fair to him or to Dak, or to the Cowboys in general. To quote Keyshaw, C'mon man.

But it hasn't been. It wasn't last year.

Moreover, using that logic, preseason has no actual purpose. I just believe it does.

I keep reading responses that do not actually address the rationale given (the need to give real game snaps to a player who last played consistent snaps about two years ago) nor actually address the counterpoint to the primary objection (that the locker room clearly is focused and altogether content w/ either guy, and the drama us fans and the media create outside the locker room is irrelevant).

Sorry guys. I know some of you are cautious... if not paranoid. But what we... we... and the media... talk about really do not matter in this equation. What matters is putting the team in the best position to hit on all cylinders all the way to Houston. Getting nervous about intangibles that appear to have no basis is counterproductive.

Are you serious? Practice and games are DIFFERENT, he's not facing a pass rush pinning their ears back trying to take him out in practice. Get real!

You have a point, but I think he's seen a few pass rushes over the last 10 or so years. We know what he can do, he'll be ready when he's called on.

The last time he faced a good pass rush was 3 months ago in preseason and he ended up with a broken back. He's bound to be a little gun shy in the pocket with all the injuries he's been suffering. He hasn't faced a regular season pass rush since last November and that resulted in 3 INT's including two pick-sixes and a broken collarbone. The last 3 good shots he's taken broke something on him. He had 5 INT's in his last two regular season games including a season ending injury because games and practice are DIFFERENT.

Ahhhh...quarterback controversey, isn't it wonderful?

Thank goodness the internet wasn't around in 1971 when Staubach and Morton were fighting for the starting position.

But did you know that Staubach was out for the entire regular season? He got hurt ob a preseason game and only made it back in time for the first playoff game.

Landry went with Craig Morton to start the playoff game.

Can you believe it?

Roger "the dodger" Staubach, 1971 Super Bowl MVP, leading passer for the previous season was sitting on the bench when the Cowboys played the 49ers in the divisional round playoff game.

For you guys who don't know what happened do your homework.

The point is, we haven't heard the last of Tony Romo, no need to force the issue.

If Romo sees the field this season every defense we face is going to try and take him out because of how injury prone he's been. The only way he survives is with the running game. If he's put in a position like Dak was put in against Philly having to overcome a 10 point deficit against a fierce pass, Romo will be in serious trouble. Go look at the shots Dak took vs Philly, not very likely Romo would have come out of that game injury free. I'm just hoping Dak keeps playing the way he has and that he stays healthy. If we're going to win anything this season it will be with Dak at QB.

First 30 snaps in his return vs. MIA last season:

5 for 12, 55 yards, 2 three-and-outs, 1 interception.

The argument is probably better to debate if one possession is really enough to make a difference than to try to assert that he's likely to walk right in to a game and have the engine continue to hum along. Honestly.

Yeah I want him in the game too, like preseason though. First 2-3 series of game. Then grab clipboard.

Anything else is too much.

I'd like to see another week, just to make sure he's healthy and has his conditioning up. It seems like he just got those up, but I tend to think that those may not being really up to snuff once he's facing live rounds. Of course, I would like to see it happen if we are comfortably leading.

I'll make you a deal then. If the score is 35-20 Dallas, with 2 minutes left, he can have at it.
But wasn't there a game where he threw back-to-back pick sixes that leaves too much time:popcorn:

Not me bro. We know what we got with Romo. Let the kid play and keep his job..why put extra pressure and media scrutiny on him by letting Romo play a series.

Actually we don't know what we have with Romo. Is he 2014 Romo, is he tin man Romo, is he something else?
