How about it? He has at times done a good job of picking up the
blitz. Hes is a banger no doubt. There were times when we had great
fullbacks that did heavy damage. Garrison and Newhouse come to
mind. Dont think Barber will ever have the speed to be a feature back again,
but could still do alot of the same type of running he became famous for.Up the middle.
Frees up more carries for Jones and Choice.:starspin

Newhouse and Garrison were both smaller than Barber.

That's all fine and wonderful.

Neither one of them ever made in their whole careers what Barber signed for just a couple years ago.

I can't see paying for a 40 million dollar FB.

The problem isn't the position he plays. It's the fact that he can't stay healthy. He's can still be effective when he has his full explosion capabilities. But we have rarely seen it because of injuries.

Moving him to fullback would probably make the injury issue worse.

I agree.

What needs to be done is sprinkled in, sparingly, through the first 2 and a half to 3 quarters and then really hammer Defenses with a fresh legged Marion in the 4th quarter.

It's really where he's at his best.

Different era

Linebackers are bigger than the linemen were in the 70's.

Ben Cheeseburger is bigger than some of the linemen from the 70's.

Every player in the NFL was smaller in that era...

Heck, Leroy Jordan played MLB at 202 pounds...

That's an extremely expensive FB.

But that's money already spent, short of sucking it up and getting rid of him what's the alternative? Continue the exercise in futility of thinking he's an every down back?

I agree with the size assessment, but his already inked contract is no reason to not get whatever you can out of him if he's staying.

Puts another weapon on the field. Some linbacker will have to watch him.

Phillips is probably already a better receiver and he's 3" taller and 30lbs heavier.

No.

Barber is to small to play fullback

Couldn't disagree more. He's 6-0 222lbs. That's about 20lbs lighter than our average FB.

But as we've all seen, Barber plays larger than his 6-0 222lb frame. He's a beast and he relishes contact.

I've brought this up a few times and never get this kind of response.

We could also train some of our TEs and LBs to fill the goal line FB role like the Pats have done.
