Me and a fellow cowboy friend were watching the USC game tonight and got talkin about different NFL uni's...

So many teams have really brought their uni's into the future - with mostly positive effects.

We both love the Cowboys classic look, but agreed we might be due for a slight update in 09 when the new stadium opens in Arlington.

This may seem a bit odd, but i always thought the Vikings had ugly uniforms until i saw us play them in pre-season on HI-DEF tv... Their purple metallic helmets literally glistened on the screen, and thought - WOW - they don't look bad after all!!!

I was thinking about how it would be cool if we had a deep metallic navy blue helmet (think: candy apple navy with a hint of silver metallic to it) with a silver star outlined in white. I'm no good at photoshop, but i'd like to see what it could look like, cuz i think it could be cool and bold.

I'm not sure what color jersey we could wear with it, but maybe white or silver/grey with navy numbers outlined in white? (i definitely don't like the blue jerseys, either!!!)...

The only alternate jersey i've ever liked is our "double star" jersey circa 1994. (I believe we wore them in 1994?)

I mainly wonder what a navy helmet would look like with the "silver star"... i think it might be kind of "bold" looking... as an alternative to what surely has become a classic over the years.

Am i crazy? Am i committing sacrilege by thinking this way?.... :laugh2:

The candy refers to type, the apple does refer to color. Candy apple red was such a popular color that other colors in that group started using the apple designator as well. I agree that purists would never call candy green candy apple green.

BTW.... Pearl, is a flake that is added to clear coat, it has no bearing on the base color at all. It does however change the look of the paint in the sun. Pearl comes in a multitude of colors gold, silver, blue, red etc. If you are familiar with ghost flames, they are done in all pearlescent flakes. For example your black cherry pearl, is a cherry red base coat with a black pearl overlay. It is then called Black Cherry Pearl.

Candy apple, refers to type as opposed to color. Who Knew ?

A Purist wouldnt call anything candy apple unless it was red. Anything else seems to go under the "pearl" category (Black Cherry Pearl, for example, one of the best paint jobs I have ever seen on a '69 Camaro)

Red, blue, green, brown or even plain old white has about a 1000 variations...they don't exist any longer.

Yes, I've painted motorcylces and cars. My own. Never anyone else's and always one color, no blends. Don't have the skills for that but my brother does. He's actually quite good. Has even painted a couple of race cars.

IMO the only team that needed new unis was Tampa. All the others need to go back to the classics.

I dont think you guys need a new uni, stick to the classic. Besides the iggles, all the teams in the NFCE have the same kind of unis.

I thought the Skins helmets with the spears/arrowheads on them and the coordinating unis were much better than the Indian logo

The best skins unis were the throwbacks with no logo at all...just a dirty maroon and a dirtier orange. Bare bones. The only thing i've ever liked about the skins.

Those are decent ideas. I like the second helmet better with the dark blue exterior with the dark blue star interior outlined with silver. The helmets must be shiny blue so they won't look dull. You shouldn't change the standard home outfits, but I do believe those horrid blue "away" uniforms need to go because we have zero success with them. I posted a uniform idea a while back. Perhaps these helmets would fit with those designs. Here they are again:

you beat me too it... i was going to say the same exact thing. the 2nd one down looks better with the dark blue star...

as the other poster mentioned the navy blue - on a high def tv screen or in real life - would need to be a really brilliant (not flashy) but brilliant deep navy blue.... that might be alright.

it's still hard to beat perfection though...
