Idiocy from Rick Gosselin

Gosselin was on his regular spot today on 103.3:

Mark Followill: Parcells was asked about Merriman today and he said he'd have been happy with either him or Ware, do you believe him?

Gosselin: I think Parcells wanted Merriman and that Jerry wanted Ware... I think he saw Merriman as his Carl Banks. But I think the owner won out. I think that's one reason Ware is wearing 94.

Galloway: Are you serious? Rick, don't tell me that!

Gosselin: I think there was a draft-day fight and Jerry and Stephen won out.

Of course, he also says that we are too old on offense and too young on defense, that we are a "mediocre, rebuilding team", and that even with our (grudgingly) admittedly good draft, none of it matters without a quarterback.

I say again... This is the guy presenting our guys at the Hall of Fame. Do you trust him to make a good presentation?

They always make it out like Jerry and BP are in disagreement when I think they were in total agreement. Dallas chose Ware because of character something came out on Merriman before the draft.

Don't trust him at all he is an idiot and just another attempt to try and create controversy between Jones and Parcells. I think some of these media guys are just waiting to say I told you so that Bill and Jerry would be unable to work with one another yet Bill has said time and again him and Jerry have a good relationship and meet with each other almost on a daily basis

I think Goose tries to limit any homerism. Who cares if he's right or not? So what if Jerry wanted Ware and BP wanted Merriman.

hey Gosselin, Merriman might have been a Banks, but why did Parcells say Ware reminded him some of LT if he didnt want him? who would choose a Banks like player over a LT type player?

and for the record, while it might be outrageous to compare ware to LT right now, its even more outrageous to compare Merriman to Banks...Merriman isnt half the player Banks was

Gosselin...good draft coverage but an absolutely putrid NFL writer

Exactly... And that's really what the interviewer meant on that. It sounded at the PC today like Parcells had a good reason for preferring Ware, but he wouldn't reveal it. No doubt he didn't want to say that Merriman had a questionable character or that they'd heard he was going to switch to the Postons.

Where Gosselin got this other "fight" idea or that Parcells preferred Merriman, I have no idea.

I do wonder if he realizes what number Ware wore in college... But I guess that was a Jerry plot, too.

yeah Gosselin, it had nothing to do with the fact that Parcells and co might have caught wind of the flim flam Merriman was about to pull with the Postons

Gosselin: "I think... I think... I think..." Absurd. Is it possible that BP would be so high on this guy and compare him to LT if he felt this way during the draft? Possibly. If BP says he would have been fine with either one, why not just believe him? If we are going by what we "think," some of us think it had more to do with Merriman's agent and Ware's talent and potential. Maybe we picked him at 11 instead of 20 because we really liked him. That's what I think... He gets paid for this, too.

This ticks me off to no end. The media will not be happy until they create a Jerry/BP feud ... imagined, fantasized or other wise.

Regarding the original post ... Reason #86 why I truly distrust the media. How can they just make up stuff and get away with it? Was he sitting in Jerry's lap when all this went down? How does he know this? What is his source. Unbelievable :banghead:

Yes of course there was a big fight over who to draft. I mean seriously BP only had a huge smile on his face after drafting Ware of course he didnt want him right?

Isn't/wasn't Merriman's agent Drew Rosenhaus? This is why they didn't draft Merriman.

Yawn. More of the same. After all, we know how Bill likes to run off his mouth. I'm sure Bill told everyone that he didn't get what he wanted. He then proceeds to compare the guy he didn't want to draft the greatest player he ever coached. Goose keeps losing points with me.

And another thing, I also think BP makes these types of comments about players because he is not gonna dis a player in public for no reason. This is a way for BP to be neutral without putting one player above or below the other. You don't have to tear one player down just because you preferred the other one. You don't have to let the world no how you TRULY feel. Everything ain't for everybody.

I honestly believe that BP is happier than he has been in a long time with an organization. I also believe as long as his health is good he will be the coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

The only explanation I can think of on this is that Gosselin has connections to most front offices -- which is why his mock drafts are so accurate -- and maybe someone with the Cowboys told Gosselin before the draft that Bill really liked Merriman. Of course that was disinformation, but maybe Gosselin bought it.

Or maybe he even knows now that he was given inaccurate information and is trying to make Jerry and Bill look bad.

I don't know... But as others have said, Parcells has seemed happy with Ware from the very second the pick was made.

That's really not a bad theory. That is very likely what it's all about.
