I think some of you don't understand what RBBC is. JJ is the unquestioned starter. At best, here is MB3's role:

3rd down back
1 series a game to spell JJ.
Reasonably capable RB to cover if JJ is injured.

This seems to be a highly debated topic, and I'm not so sure there is a definitive ANSWER at this point. I really don't think it matters who is named the 'starter', neither might not be able to carry the ball 30+ times a game anyway. Both have their perceived strengths and weaknesses and both are going to see their share of the action on the football field this fall.

I'm not too keen on the whole running back by commitee approach, but at this point as long as somebody emerges and gets the job done that's all that matters. As long as both stay healthy and contribute.

RBBC means a pretty equal share of carries.

I mean that JJ will get all of the carries other than 3rd down and maybe 1 series a game.

Hope that clarifies.....the poll could have been better I guess.

i agree. JJ will get most of the carries in the ball games other then on 3rd downs i figure.

No one is going to get 30 carries a game except on extreeme situations. BP has many times said that is something he wants to avoid. MB will get 10-13 and JJ with get 20-23. With TT getting a few.

I don't think it will be RB by Committee per se. I think Julius will be the feature back and MBIII will be the 3rd down short / yardage specialist. And there will be a limited role for Tyson Thompson as a reliever for Julius. I think you will see 20 to 25 carries for Julius, 5 to 10 for MBIII and 4 or 5 for Thompson.

Of course this is contingent upon Julius staying healthy AND the O-line doing a decent job of blocking. If the blocking sucks I think you will see more of MBIII because he can make better yardage with inferior blocking than Julius can.

That's about what I think too Jack.

20 carries per game = 320 for a season. 25 carries = 400 per season. Virtually NO back gets that many carries. 20-22 is probably what JJ will get. BP would like to run the ball 40 times a game. SO if jj gets 22, thenn MB will probably get 10-15. And TT will get 3-8. Depending on how close a game it is. If it is a blow out, TT might get more. IF it is close, then JJ and MB will get more. BY the end of the season I am willing to bet that JJ will average around 22, MB will average around 13, and TTwill average around 5.

You've got way too many carries in there... and you don't figure any for the WR's or Bledsoe.

Last year Dallas averaged 32.6 carries per game and they were 5th in the NFL.

The leading team in that category-- Pittsburgh, averaged less than 35 per game.

I would parcel :D out the carries as follows based upon 32 carries per game:

Julius-20
MBIII-7
TT-3
& a carry going to a WR and Bledsoe.

he already said that barber is going to get an increased role...he likes him...JJ goes to change of pace back possibly...i know that sounds crazy..but he really only can get 10 to 15 carries a game if he wants to play 16 games...that is what parcells thinks...hey barber was already the change of pace back last year and 3rd down back at times...if he is going to get a bump in playing time what does that mean? it means they flip roles...JJ JUST CANT DO IT...he has proven that...2 years in and 2 years injured

You have a linky?

JJ goes to change of pace back possibly...i know that sounds crazy..but he really only can get 10 to 15 carries a game if he wants to play 16 games...that is what parcells thinks...

He "thinks" that aye?

Let's compare the last 3 games of the season:

JJ 61 carries, 308 yards, 5.04ypc
MB 22 carries, 68 yards, 3.09ypc

Yep, it's pretty clear that Julius is being "phases out". Plus it's apparent that he "lacks" something that MB III has.

hey barber was already the change of pace back last year and 3rd down back at times...if he is going to get a bump in playing time what does that mean? it means they flip roles...JJ JUST CANT DO IT...he has proven that...2 years in and 2 years injured

Exactly, even to a piker like myself it's clear that JJ is a no-talent puss while Barber is ready to have his name put on on "The Wall".

BTW JJ did play in 13 games last year and averaged almost 20 carries per game. :)

believe BP said MB MIGHT get an expanded role. Probably 3rd down back.
But don't try and reason with the MB homers- logic and facts are ignored.

Hey, I like MBIII.

But he doesn't have the explosiveness of Julius. He just isn't as talented.

Not many RB's are every down type of players, in fact I'd rather have two or three capable backs like we do as opposed to one guy that we use and abuse over a shorter period of time until his engine dies completely.

So far JJ has shown he can't even stay healthy an entire season, so there's no way he will ever be a 30+ carry a game back.

RB's are indespensable in this day and age, and their shelf life isn't what it used to be.

30 carries a game for 16 games is 480 carries for a season. Shaun Alexander lead the league with 370 carries last season which is an average of 23 carries a game. 30+ carry a game backs don't really exist any more.

Julius Jones has carries the ball 30 or more times 4 times in his career.

No back in the league will carry the ball even 25 time a game for 16 games now. Not if the coach has a brain, anyway.
