If BP returns, will he have ANY assistants?

It appears each day that BP doesn't make a decision that another assistant leaves the organization. Assume for a moment that he says in a week that he is coming back. Unless someone comes in here with the understanding they are the HC this time next year, I don't see anyone from the outside (that is any good) coming here. Why would they want a 1yr assignment?

So here is the question......if BP returns, who is coaching Romo, the D, and special teams? Even if you say that they will be filled by staff already here, who replaces them? I don't think this is a good thing at all because if BP goes we have to rebuild a staff and if he stays we can only get guys who will take a 1 yr assignment which means they will not be good coaches.

nope its all bill all the time, He will hire himself give himself ten different titles and a huge raise. He will then quit half way through the season and take all the money with him and steal the uniforms. Thusly he will ruin the franchise for the next 54 years.

Being an assistant to Bill Parcells is the equivalent of going to an Ivy undergrad. It opens doors. I wouldn't worry about this at all.

I just wish he would decide so we dont have to bring in a new staff so BP can retire next year so we can start all over again when we hire a new coach

Hey now -- I dole out the academic analogies on this board.

You are right about Lee but not Dehaven -- a guy like Lee especially has a few years of experience -- doesn't see that he'll be promoted in Dallas -- so he moves on.

Dehaven is a bit different -- he's a long-time NFL coach (20 years) -- he coached the very sucessful Bills' ST units working under Marv Levy. He isn't really moving up to anything.

This sounds like typical Ivy League snobbery. All things being equal, there aren't many sane up and comers who are going to come work for Parcells for a one year deal. Unless Jerry gives them a multiyear deal, they will all take three years somewhere else. If they don't have other options, then yes. Dan Henning might fall into this category.

It is true, man - It isn't just the name of the school but the quality of the people there -- you get recommendations from HUGE names in whatever field you are in (e.g., Parcells) -- well, that's something that a state school can't provide (e.g., whoever is coaching the Cardinals). The fact is you go Ivy league and everyone knows you got a killer education. You coach under Parcells and everyone knows you got awesome training.

I could coach the ST as good as he has done.. we haven't lost anyone that matters to this point.. so what is the fuss??

I appreciate your thoughts.

There are also a number of "legacies" who earn "gentleman Cs" in the Ivy League who get to move up based on who they know, not what they know (e.g., El Presidente).

I still say that Bill's not going to have a long train of guys wanting to come work for him in a lame-duck year, but time will tell the truth, right? Just my opinion, which won't buy you much.

that's right -- get concerned when up and coming coaches like Bowles and Sparano -- guys that other teams would be interested in -- start leaving.

I don't think we have. But there isn't any fun in bashing Parcells then.
Jones wouldn't let any one capable walk away.

They can't leave unless they go to college, get a head coaching gig or Bill/Jerrah give them permission...they're under contract.

Also, how exactly did Todd Bowles become the greatest thing since sliced bread? How do we know other teams want him? Sparano was offered OC by Payton, which I consider significant, but what skins does Bowles have on his wall?

Too bad JJ can't re-hire Payton. Oh, and he can bring Gibbs along with him.

Draft picks, anyone? :laugh2:

Are you sure about that? Don't most assistants work on 1-year deals? I don't know what Bowles and Sparano have but I can't recall stories about them signing long-term

Several people, including players, have spoken highly of Bowles. By all accounts, he's Bill's choice for DC. I think that's what you'd call an "up-and-comer." No one said he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but he does seem to have a role in our future. When guys like that are leaving, that's when you should worry.

The secondary has been in decline since Bowles got here. No thanks.

I know it's seemingly counter-intuitive but that's not the best way to judge assistant coaches.
