It's a big part of it. Certainly more than the players liking him.theogt;1321202 said:I know it's seemingly counter-intuitive but that's not the best way to judge assistant coaches.

No one said he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but he does seem to have a role in our future. When guys like that are leaving, that's when you should worry.

Just because players speak highly of someone, doesn't make him a good coach. I think players respect guys who've played game, but that doesn't mean he's going to be effective (or ineffective). The only guy I've heard talk him up was Newman, but I might have missed some others.
Regarding the "sliced bread" comment, plenty of folks on this board have inferred that he's the next big thing. He might be, but the proof is in the pudding. Our secondary doesn't play aggressive and we don't get a ton of picks. Now maybe that's dictated by our scheme it's not all on Bowles, but I'm not getting out the anointing oil. Having said that, if he is the guy, may he be wildly successful, but I would prefer an established 3-4 guy, preferably with experience coaching linebackers in such a system.

We can only hope things work out that way.BrAinPaiNt;1321273 said:If Bill decides to hang them up, than a new HC will be hired and probably bring new assistants with him...just like other teams normally do when they hire a new HC. So it would not be uncharted territory.![]()
