Brandon Weeden's week of glory has been upstaged by a suddenly healthy Brian Hoyer.
Houston Texans coach Bill O'Brien told reporters that Hoyer practiced Wednesday and will start under center on Sunday for the first time since Week 14.
"He's out of the concussion protocol. Cleared by the specialists," said O'Brien, whose Texans (8-7) can clinch the AFC South with a win against the Jaguars or a Colts (7-8) loss to the Titans. Houston also owns a swath of tie-breaking scenarios over Indy.
In Hoyer's absence, Weeden produced the finest start of his career, with two passing touchdowns and a rushing score in Houston's 34-6 pounding last Sunday of the Tennessee Titans.
Hoyer, though, deserves the start after a strong campaign that has seen the former Cleveland Browns starter toss 18 touchdowns to just six interceptions.
It baffles the mind, slightly, to ponder a playoff club led by Hoyer and Weeden, but these are special times we live in. Especially for lovers of the comprehensively milquetoast AFC South.
____________
I think I would start weeden, and then go to hoyer if needed and give hoyer more rest .
the jags should not be that hard to beat.
If you go to hoyer and lose, that would look very bad, I would always stay with the hot hand, and weeden has won 2 in a row with I think
no ints.
Then in the playoff game same thing use hoyer as the go to guy.
I think weeden was pumped about his winning, this has to be a bit of a let down.
I also think this concussion protocol is a joke after seeing the movie on it.
Hoyer is still at risk of another concussion, and 2 weeks off is not enough time to really help.
