If Cutler falls, do we take him

We know that the Saints aren't going to go with a QB now. The Jets signed Pennington to a long term deal, so they probably won't draft a QB. The 1st QB taken will probably be Vince or Matt at the 3rd pick by the Titans. The Raiders will probably be the next team to take a QB. Either Matt or Vince, whoever the Titans don't take. Here is where it gets interesting. I don't think the Lions will take a QB, but rather a safety. They have Mike Martz there and will probably work with Josh McCown (who had signs of breaking out last year). The Browns is another prospect at drafting a QB, but Crennel is a defence minded coach, and the Browns need a defence. They also want to give Charlie Frye a shot at the QB shot. The Ravens are next. Kyle showed some skill down the stretch off last season, and they may be willing to give him one last shot. The coach is also a defensive coach. Add to the fact the defense is starting to older. The last team to stand in our way is the Vikings. Their linebacker position is just plain bad. They have a bad O line. They just have a lot of needs. So, it isn't to farfetched to say Cutler falls to us, and if he does do we take him? Also, We could trade up with Cleveland or Philly and draft him there if he is still available.

Cutler won't fall to us. Even if he does, I still question if he's worth it.

No we trade the pick to somebody that really wants him get their current first round and next year first or this year second...

If Cutler falls, it is very unlikely he falls all the way to 18. The Ravens, Cardinals, Rams, Broncos, Vikings and even possibly Dolphins will be in the mix for him.

One thing we know for sure is that Dallas will not move up to get him.

And even if he is there, Parcells has already stated several times that he wants to finish the defense. That says OLB or FS and my bet would be OLB despite what Kiper has to offer.

Most likely avenue is that we trade down 4 to 12 spots and pick up a third or fourth round pick, possibly both depending on the trade.

If Peter King's rumors are correct in that Parcells wants at least 5 first day picks and a couple of 4th rounds then he have to figure he and Jerry will be wheeling and dealing.

If he hypothetically fell to us, absolutely I take him. Getting what could be a very good QB at 18 is a great, great value. The reward would outweigh the risk.

That being said - I would toy with the idea of trading with a team that covets him - at a minimum for a 2&5 this year and a first next year - especially if it is a team that I think will stink this season.

But it is all moot - he isn't going to fall that fast unless some news about him having a debilitating disease or something breaks in the next week.

No way he makes it past the Ravens. Boller stinks and they would be even stupider than they already are to pass on Cutler because they have Boller.

is he this year's kyle boller? You know, the guy that no one even heard of until after the season.

If he is then he is a perfect fit for the Ravens.

I agree, no way he drops to 18, but since this is just a hypothetical question, no doubt about it, you take him and run.

No. Cutler's name has been mentioned for a while. I think there are still some justifiable doubts, but he is nothing like Boller.

I didn't understand the Boller fascination. He had one good season at Cal and even that season was that impressive. He made it from that workout where he threw the ball 50 yards from his knees. Also, if Brian Billick doesn't draft him, I don't think he goes that high. Boller reminds me of Chad Hutchinson. Neither guy was that impressive in college, but had strong arms.

It would be the most foolish thing we could do if we did not take him. As a matter of fact, if he falls to the 15 range and we don't trade up to get him it would be foolish.

He is all that and a bag of chips.

Cutler will not fall.

Plus Dallas would pass on him anyways. Parcells wants his first round pick to start right away. Would Cutler bench Bledso? I think not.

Yeah - the problem with drafting Cutler is that it doesn't fit Bills/this offseason's win now approach. We would then have to move our 3 biggest needs to the 2nd, 3rd and 5th round - OT, OLB and FS - and it would just be harder to find contributers at those positions who could help immediately in those rounds.

I like Cutler and would take him - but I don't know that the boys would - it will be interesting, no doubt.

If Cutler fell, I would hope Dallas either takes him or trades out of the first for a first next year and a 2nd round this year. With a 2nd round pick, Dallas could take Thomas Howard and with 2 number 1s, Dallas could take Quinn next year.

...

I wasn't going to mention Quinn - but I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't thinking about it.;):D

The thing is - the draft this year is a relatively rich QB pool. 3 really good QB prospects up top and a few sprinkled in the earlier rounds. Next year, there isn't much other than Quinn, so trading to get him would be more difficult than picking one up this year.

Passing on somebody like Cutler or Young will be like passing on Joe Montana in '79 and Dan Marino in '83 becacuse we had Danny White. Go with BPA regardless of position.
