If I Was The Commissioner

If you were the commissioner of the NFL and had the ability to bring about all of the changes that you would like, what would change?

Here is my list, in no particular order. Feel free to disagree with my ideas and add your own.

1. No more instant replay - period. I know this won't be popular with many, but officiating is a human element to the game, just like players. Just let the guys call it and go from there. Most of the really game changing calls can't be reviewed anyway. (The interference call against Benny Barnes in the Super Bowl would not be reviewable, as just one example)

2. Houston would become the Oilers, Tennessee can stay the Titans, but all Oiler history reverts to the Houston franchise. Indianapolis becomes whatever they want, but Baltimore becomes the Colts and all Colts history becomes theirs again. Indianapolis can have (historically) whatever they accomplished in Indy but it will go under another mascot's name. If owners want to move their team, they leave the history behind. (may be difficult to undo all the changes, but for the FUTURE, you move the team, you leave its history, uniforms colors and name)

3. No more XFL uniforms. Minor updates to the uniforms allowed but no more huge swoops up the jerseys and pants and all the rest. Looks like arena league.

4. ALL OWNERS will be FORCED to hire a REAL GM and will not be allowed in the locker room except for awards ceremonies. I will call it the JERRY RULE ;)

5. NFL Sunday Ticket will have to be offered to all satellite and cable systems, no more the sole property of DirectTV.

6. No salary cap. I'm tired of "parity" and ready for great team dominance again.

There. Probably not the end of my list, but a good start. :)

These are the wost ideas ever, honestly. This must be a highly unfunny joke.

Aw, one of them is light hearted (the Jerry rule :)), but the rest are things I wish were still true in the NFL, so I would implement them, if a commissioner could ever had such power. (which he won't)

So, what would you do? Do you really like parity? I don't. Do you like franchises moving all over the country so that a team has no real identity with a community? I don't. Do you think instant replay really ADDS something to the NFL in the final analysis? I don't. (Ask the Chargers and mention Ed Hochuli while you are at it) Do you really like the Arena League version of the Vikings uniforms, how about the Titans, how about the Cardinals uniform length swoop? I don't.

So, this is just my list.

If i was commissioner I would take away the power to make stupid lists.

Come on, this must be a joke. If you really want attention i suggest naked pictures on the web.:moon:

Anyone who feels they get attention by posting on a discussion board, needs a life. Nope, no joke, I'm just an old school NFL fan and was thinking about some things I miss about "the old NFL".

I think that some of the things people think "advanced" the game, really only "changed" the game. I don't know that it made it better. Has parity really made the game better? Really? that is just one example.

I'll bet that the MAJORITY, not all, I know, but the MAJORITY of the folks who like the XFL style uniforms are under 35 years of age. (The same folks wanting the Cowboys to go to their Thanksgiving uniforms year round)

This isn't meant to be a heavy, serious thread. More along the lines of whether you like the NFL the way it is, or are there some things you miss about the old days, or are there some steps you would take to make it better. (in your opinion)

In other words, a conversation suggestion that happens when our team is OUT, again, and other teams are playing playoff games. Just a way to pass some time.

1. Kick the Steelers out of the league.
2. Celebrate #1
3. Rest

Full time refs

Cold weather outdoor SB's - screw the celebs having to sit outside in cold weather

Get rid of the 5 yard touch rule - dumb and run all over the field

Take the skirts of the QB's

Just a few things of the top of my head

I would do away with the inactive list. All 53 players on active roster should be available to play each week.

Your second one (I agree with you), brings to mind another. I wish there were no domed stadiums. Man, football was meant to be played in the elements. Vikings in the snow, Packers in the snow and mud.

Lol. Now that drew a smile. :) No. You could be Vice Commish and we could argue all day. What happened to our Pollyanna play by play threads? Do you remember that?

#5 is about all I agree with.

#5 should be directtv, no other cable company thought of the idea, now since directtv has it sold up, people want a peice of the pie... where were all the cable companies when directtv came up with the Idea.... Oh yeah probably laughing at Directtv thinking the idea would not work.

Um, no I don't... I'm not usually around here for games.

At least, I didn't think I was. If I have been, I'm in more trouble than I thought.:

• Allow all plays to be reviewable.
• No dead balls.
• Allow all penalties to be reviewable.
• No more commerical-kickoff-commerical routine.
• Face mask 10 yards.
• Eliminate or change intentional grounding rule.
• Make the goal posts thinner.
• Come up with something better than two sticks for measuring 10 yards.

Sorry, I thought it was you. A few years ago, it seemed you couldn't make a single "negative" comment about the team without someone accusing you of not being a "real" fan. So, for a game or two (the last couple of the season), we started a game thread where we (in some sarcastic fun) put a positive spin on every play of the game, no matter how pathetic the play actually was. The team was losing, we were bored, and it was actually kind of funny at times.

Make the goal posts thinner? Do you mean have the uprights closer together?

And if you don't like commercial stoppages, wait until you start reviewing EVERY kind of play.
