I just see Franco Harris pull that ball off the ground everytime Instant Replay comes to mind. The league should pride itself in ensuring a dilligence to accuracy of a game that is fought so hard, and decided over inches. Those inches decide who is a legend, and who is a goat. Those inches decide history, and the emotions of hundreds of thousands of fans - instant replay ensures a quality to a sport that has prided itself in technolical proficience over time.

It doesn't slow down the game that much, and it adds another aura of excitement for the fan to try and make the call at home. It allows time for extra commercials, meaning more loot for the NFL.

So if I were the commissioner I would be beating my chest about how awesome instant replay is, and how good it is for the league, players, and fans.

Thats why I stopped reading, and said it was dumb. Everything else was unrealistic, and not financially plausible. So you would be a terrible commisioner.

:), ok. And if you were the commissioner in 1972, we would have sat around for 15 minutes trying to figure out if the immaculate reception was an immaculate deception, and in the end the play would have probably stood for lack of irrefutable evidence to overturn it. yea, that would have made for an exciting ending! Instead of players mobbing Franco in the endzone they would have all been huddled together while the referee had his head under a hood. Then when they finally got to celebrate some of the edge would have been gone, and the Raiders would have been yelling at the ref all the way as he ran quickly off the field.

Btw, I agree with your basic point that after players play so hard you want an accurate outcome.

The problem I have though is this. You think about Franco, I think about "the tuck" call.

I don't care what anyone says about that rule being "officially" in the books. I've heard NFL people admit that the call was never made like that until the Tom Brady play. That was WITH instant replay.

I think about the Chargers losing a game this year because of an inadvertent whistle. There was replay available, everyone could SEE that it was a fumble (everyone but Ed Hochuli), but they couldn't do a thing about it.

Whether we like it or don't like it, the human element is there in officiating. Instant replay hasn't changed that, and there are still TONS of inaccurate things that happen in football games all year long in the NFL.

I just don't think it really fixes that much.

1.Adopt the NBA's cap structure. Allow for teams to go over cap to re-sign own players.

2.Change Pass Intereference rules-Major foul (15 yards or 25 yards) instead of spot of the ball unless the offensive player is in the end zone at the time of the foul or if the defensive player is interfering to prevent a clear/obvious touchdown...ie shoe string tackle with no one left between offensive player and end zone. In these cases the offensive team will get the ball at the spot of the foul

3.Full-time refs and head referees must hold post-game press conference. I am tired of the refs being sheltered by every major North American team sport.

4.Playoff seedings decided by record, however all division champs guaranteed playoff berth.

That's all I have.

Nah then rich teams will just overwhelm teams like the Cardinals, Jaguars, Bills, etc...I just don't like having teams being handcuffed to players once they resign them. Would TO still be a Cowboy if Jerry were allowed to cut him? What about Adams? Shawn Alexander would have been cut years ago from the Seahawks ,but they were forced to carry him because he would have killed their cap. Teams should be allowed to get rid of bad players, but I don't like the idea of rich teams being able to sign anyone/everyone they want.

You mean the way Portland, Dallas, and New York have overwhelmed the NBA? The Spurs are a small market team and have won 4 titles. The Heat arent exactly a rich team and have won a title. Look at how competitive Utah is year in and year out. Look how well Cleveland and Orlando are doing.

Trust me, the rich teams will spend and be willing to pay the luxury tax....however, that doesnt guarantee success over teams that are fiscally responsible and resourceful.
