If It Is Just Results You Want, How Do You Propose to Get Them?

Good analysis JT.

I agree that "building in the trenches" isn't as important as it was in prior decades in that the focus of the offense so much more with the running game. Pass blocking and pass rushing are still important. Run defense and run blocking? Not as much.

I think there's a bit of equivocation with the term "building in the trenches." Whether you build around offensive lineman that are stout run blockers or nowadays great pass blockers, you're still "building in the trenches" and it's still inherently important for the success of your team.

The same can be said about the defensive line run stoppers/pass rushers.

Oh. Well this statement you made led me to believe you did think that. My bad.

Nah. Your bad was in resorting to personal insult, rather than misinterpreting the expression of a concern with a definitive statement that the OL was not improved. Hos showed restraint in refusing to respond in kind. But make no mistake: there are many who disagree with him, but only a confused few who think he's "obtuse".

Saying a statement is obtuse is resorting to personal insult? Ok.

And you're right. Hostile would never sink so low as to throw out a personal insult. I am ashamed.

Yeah, "concerned we have not done enough" is not the same as "was not in fact, improved."

I do consider the OL improved by virtue of moving Smith and Free to opposite sides. I consider moving on from an injured Kyle Kosier improving. I consider moving on from inconsistent Montrae Holland improving. I consider moving on from journeyman Derrick Dockery improving.

What I do not know, and in fact no one (except TwoDeep3 apparently) does, is how Livings and Bernadeau will fit here. I do not know how Leary will fit here. I do not know if Costa is going to start or even be on the roster. I'm not blessed with the omnipotence you DCU & DCC rabble are blessed with. I don't have a crystal ball, a sorting hat, or a trick knee that allows me to know for 100% certain that guys cannot improve the OL from last year.

I believe however, that the secondary was improved enough, and the ILB positions improved enough, and with the return of DeMarco Murray and the addition of a great lead blocking FB that we can erase some late game collapses and be a force inside the red zone and in short yardage which I think pushes this team a long way forward thus allowing me to deign to believe in June that we can be a good team in 2012.

And get this, I don't care how chapped that makes your butt nor anyone else's who like to follow me around from thread to thread spewing your dissent at my opinions so you can go flex for your friends on other forums and tell them how big you are.

Get it? Got it? Good.

Oops. Lost my restraint.

LOL

So, you're concerned we have not done enough on the OL, yet [strike]predict[/strike] expect us to go 12-4? Man. If only we had drafted DeCastro and Konz. 19-0, baby!

It was so hard for you to grasp that you had to talk yourself through it? Damn man...

Why do you care? And why degenerate a good thread into a measuring contest? I don't understand why anybody out there--anybody--would get wadded up over how excited Hos is about his favorite football team, and whether or not he has a reason to be. It doesn't matter. He's excited. I'm happy for him. How 'bout we discuss football now?

I suppose this is intended for me. Did I imagine what follows?

No, I meant exactly that word.

ob·tuse

uhb-toos, adjective

1. not quick or alert in perception, feeling, or intellect; not sensitive or observant; dull.

Yeah, not quick in perception or intellect. Not observant. Dull. That about covers it.

I know, I know: you were implying that his "statement" was obtuse, not him. I was prepared to let you wriggle off the hook with that lame spin, but since you're calling me out, screw it.

I must have "imagined" the fact that statements, unlike people, do not perceive, observe or have intellect.

Small wonder that you misinterpreted Hos's words, when you seem not to understand your own.

I certainly understand the player that did not thrive in one system going to another and then becoming something serviceable.

However, the two players you mentioned that are now guards for us do not fit into that category. They are cast-offs from another team(s).

I am not saying get the best guard in the draft. And I like the Claiborne pick. But I also think as a GM one would weigh the issue and make a judgment based on that and not the show pony Jerry continues to reach for.

Or should we review Roy and Big for ole Jerr's skills in bringing home the bacom with big FA splashes?

Claiborne should be a stud. The price was pretty steep.

The options we chose in FA for the line did not shore anything up as we stand here today.

I don't pump sunshine. I'll be happy to discuss this team on any player cpach or GM.

What I find laughable is the June assessment that turns into december grousing, only to find next June in a garden of flowery hope.

Did we fix the team in the draft and FA or not?

I don't care about the fan mail posted her as facts.

If your "logic" made any sense, then you would "know" that because Tom Brady was a 6th round pick that he would never be the anchor for the Patriots franchise, or that Romo would not become the Cowboys starting QB because he went undrafted.

You don't KNOW that we didn't adequately address our interior offensive line woes. You might be concerned, and you might even be right, but you could also be wrong.

Personally, I think your concern with the offensive line is justified. I think most on this site agree that it remains an unknown, whether it is actually fixed or not. I am concerned as well, but the Cowboys have taken some action to fix the team, including the offensive line.

I am not sure if you are intentionally being abrasive, or just missing the point entirely. I think posters are trying to analyze things from your viewpoint, but the method you are taking to get there is very counter productive if you are intending to have a meaningful, intelligent conversation about the topic.

If, on the other hand, you are just trying to piss people off, then I applaud you, because you are doing a fine job. LOL.
