If Jason Garrett is a lame duck coach

That being said, if any coach hasn't been lame-duck it's JG. The guy got a chance to play with the offense for like 4 years, before Jerry actually took the reigns from him and he still didn't fire the Red-Headed Chosen one. He made his brother Passing Game coordinator after 1 year as TE coach and they tried to work the latter's per project Kevin Ogletree into the offense when he sucked. And they didn't even fire him, but gave him a good PR exit when he continued to suck.

Wade had to take over for Brian Stewart after a couple months and Stewart was shown the door very soon after.

Even if Jerry is somehow forced to fire Jason, the latter will be back in some capacity in the organization very soon. He's not getting a HC gig and he'll probably get some shiny title like his other brother, whose in the scouting department.

At this point I wonder if Jerry is tied to Garrett as long as he's tied to Romo.

My point being with Romo being older now I'm wondering if Jerry hasn't just simply decided to stick with Garrett, and company, until Romo is done. When Romo is done and they're in need of the next QB then they get a new head coach with his own philosophy and direction to go with the new QB.

*Shrugs* I don't know. Just wonder if sometimes they stick with continuity and all that simply because they don't want Romo to have to start all over with another HC and OC and different offense and philosophy and all that stuff.

He is not a lame duck coach ........ he is an unwilling puppet to Jerry Jones and a willing puppet to Stephan Jones.

He's just a smart dude, trying to steer the ship with his boss standing over his shoulder and periodically grabbing the wheel and pointing it at random icebergs.

So I've seen mention on here a few times about Jason Garrett being in a make or break year. If that is true and he is possibly going to lay an egg. Who are the next coordinators or available head coaches that would make sense?

Answer - nobody will work with Jerruh and his egomaniacal ways

People would, of course, be falling all over themselves for a chance at the Cowboys job if it were to come available.

I want the same guy I've wanted for years, Jon Gruden.

I think whoever comes here has to have the clout to bench Jerry.

I've recently come around to the idea of Urban Meyer.

I'd want either one of them to hire Gus Bradley (assuming JAX doesn't figure things out) as Defensive Coordinator. He's probably one of my favorite defensive guys in the league right now. Kris Richard too.

Allow me to rephrase

NO respectable coach would come in unless they were in full control, Jerruh can't
and won't let coaches have control..so Jerruh reaches out to retirees and assistants
on other teams that nobody else wants for help

If you define respectable as 'having full control' then sure. That's not the way things work in Dallas. Jerry owns the team and Jerry retains control.

But the Cowboys job is still one of the top 5-10 jobs in football. If it were open again, there's immediately be a line of top coaches willing to take it. Jerry Jones and all.

No doubt it's a dream job but nobody wants Jerruh telling them what to do
especially when they are capable of doing the job

Yep. I'm not going to bat for Jerry. He does things to make that job easier, but he does a lot that makes it harder than it needs to be. I still think we'd get access to many top candidates, but no doubt the owner is going to be a negative to some of them, too.

I mean both. Jerry's a mixed bag. He'll go out and get a guy. He'll close a guy who's on the fence. He'll pay his players. He bends over backwards to do the right thing for his players when they're in trouble. Get your assistant coaches for you. Pay them. Make sure you have the best facilities in the league and resources for managing and developing the roster. and generally do the things that keeps the Cowboys front-and-center in the NFL.

He's also going to meddle with your tactics. He's going to 'encourage' you to bring in or keep players you don't necessarily want. He's going to have an open-door policy where star players can go around the coach and come directly to Jerry, and then he'll 'work out' compromises to accommodate that behavior. He'll make stupid comments in the press that undermine his own coaches authority, and he'll swing at the fences for any big opportunity that comes along no matter what it costs the team in terms of distractions or cap resources or draft picks. So, he's a mixed bag.

But there are a lot of owners in this league who are mixed bags. To hear his coaches tell it--even Jimmy and Bill have been pretty clear that in a lot of important ways Jerry is a good guy to work with. His reputation with the fans is not the same as his reputation in NFL coaching ranks. Mike Holmgren was reported to be very interested in coming here for years. There have been rumors about Sean Payton coming back if he were let out of his Saints contract. Mike Zimmer would have been more than happy to land the Dallas job had it been opened before he took the MIN job. Jerry's a giant PITA, but $6-8MM/year and the highest profile in the league is some pretty good bait to fish with.
