If Kosier isn't a good run blocker, why did we even sign him?

In that game, Kosier didn't allow his assignment to tackle the ball carrier, not once.

He only struggled on two plays, which were passes. Glover pushed him back towards the QB, but never touched the QB.

The only thing Kosier lacks is pure strength and its reasonable to expect him to get at least a little stronger.

Kosier played against: Glover, Fergy, Ellis, Canty, and Ware...no problems.

Kosier also played tackle for two plays. On one passing play he blocked Ware with little problem.

Anyone else get the feeling that Dallas is building a smart, tough, scrappy, no-frills offensive line? There will also be some smart, tough linemen available in this year's draft. Hmmmm.....

I think you need to look no further than New England to see a version of Bill's philosophy on the line

Go to his player page at SI.com here:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/players/6109/game_log.html

He started his first game in week 6 at left guard, but I don't know that he played all season there. Regardless, it has a log of how they ran the ball to the left, middle and right.

Starting with Cleveland(His first start), they ran the ball to the left 63 times for 296 yards, 4.7 average. Up the middle, 66, 164, 2.5. To the right, 65, 238, 3.66. Before he started, half their runs were up the middle, and they averaged 2.7 to the left and 2.7 up the middle. 5.9 to the right, skewed by an 8 rush 92 yard performance against Baltimore.

Taking our stats from LA's game log, last year we ran to the left 123, 468, 3.8. Up the middle, 169, 541, 3.2. To the right, 121, 490, 4.0.

These aren't indicative of an individual player's perfomance of course, more what different areas of the line were able to accomplish.
