If Lee returns, and Dallas spends a 1st-round pick on defense

If Sean Lee returns healthy next year, and the Cowboys spend next year's 1st-round pick on a premium pass rusher or safety - or, spends most or all of its non-first-round picks on defense - .....................we could be looking at one of the toughest defenses in the league.

The attitude's there. We finally have a somewhat decent defensive coordinator. Lee, Carter and McClain could be one of the finest linebacking corps in the league. The Morris Claiborne experiment may yet still produce something. DeMarcus Lawrence might become something.

All that's really missing is a formidable pass rusher and a ball-hawking safety.

If DLaw turns out as advertised and Spencer continues to improve, we might be ok at DE. I do think we need a premiere 1 Tech with some size on the D-Line and an actual Free Safety.

I think we're two pro-bowl-caliber players away from being a premier defense. Adding starters will help, but it won't make us a great defense. Right now, we're solid. We're top 10 in scoring and top 10 in takeaways. Our defense is playing at a level good enough to win, but the difference between our defense and a defense that can win on its own is still fairly large.

Drafting is fun, but we have a long season ahead. Lots of work to do. I'm encouraged by what I've seen. I just hope the Free injury isn't as impacting as many predict. But Free's play has improved dramatically because of having Martin along side of him. I'm expecting the same from Parnell. I think Martin is one of those players who can make average players play above their means.

I bet we go OL, Corner, and RB/LB depending on who we lose - in no particular order - in the first 3 rounds, and people here will have a massive coronary.

:)i think the team is pretty happy with how the safeties are developing. i think a dt or an edge rusher would be biggest need although a RT may be important if free leaves. but i think you can get a rt in the second. the problem is going to be having the last pick and all the super players being picked over but thats just part of the process:)

Good thought.

May need to replace Free, Mo, and Murray/ Durant or Carter.

May franchise Murray and see if we can get 1 more year out of him before the workload takes its toll.

Still a lot of ifs, depending on how this year goes.

I would expect, depending of course on who they lose via FA (We have quite a few people this offseason) that the vast majority of the picks next year will be used on the defensive front. Get a little more help at LB and Secondary but I'd imagine the majority of the work will be done on the front to add some serious pass rushing ability.

Pass rushers is what we need.

OL and DL are the way forward in the NFL. The all pro's skill players will come with that.

Well the safety would be a nice addition IF DLaw is who we think he is, Spencer gets back to form and Melton and Crawford keep improving

How good of a defensive can we get with the 32nd pick? ;)

a cb could be a possibilty with MO being what he is and carr costing so much. that would'nt surprise me

Safety is a luxury pick guys.

Improve the pass rush and it'll have the same trickle down effect improving the O-line had. Church and Wilcox will benefit greatly.

Earl Thomas and Kam looked really average on Sunday with no pass rush.

I dont like to look into the future when the present is going so good.

Exactly. We're 5-1 and have the best record in the league lol. I'll look to the future when we have no more meaningful games left. I've been waiting for this for about 6 or 7 years now. Cherish it people.

Even the best safeties are helpless without some semblance of a pass rush. The quarterbacks in this league are too good.
Even Deion Sanders can't defend an accurately thrown ball and receivers who are supposed to be in the correct spot when the ball arrives.
