If Orton's not on the team this year

You think we'll just go with Weeden as the sole backup or add another QB and carry 3. I'd rather just have Orton and just carry 2 and have an extra spot for one of these younguns. That being said, if he's not fully committed he can just stay home anyhow.

I doubt if they keep 3 under any circumstance unless some young guy really wows during the preseason.

It seems doubtful that they would keep both Orton and Weeden.

My guess is that Weeden is #2 and they carry a QB on the PS.

I don't understand all the consternation over Kyle Orton. Either he's here or he isn't. Either way if Romo misses more than two games, we're screwed.

Personally I could give 2 sh!ts about Orton. Although I do think he's better than weeden. Your right if Romo goes down we're done. My whole point is I'd rather have that extra roster spot for someone like L. Washington, Boyd,Coleman, Malena

Splitting some might fine hairs there.

I think it's two active QB's (Romo and Weeden) if Orton quits, but the Cowboys will be taking a look at the waiver wire for a number 3 when teams make their final cuts before the season. Can't see Hanie or Vaughan making the team.

Anyone know the cap/ dead money involved in cutting ties with Orton?

Personally I like having Weeden as our primary backup. If Romo goes out we are going to lose alot of games & it will give us a top ten shot at a premier QB to replace Tony. Lets face it if Tony goes out this year his career is likely over. He may give it one more shot but not likely, either way if Romo goes out I want to stink it up & get Brett Hundley in Dallas.

It's CowboysZone. Some of these guys literally can't function on a daily basis without consternation. Or maybe it's constipation.

So who is going to talk Orton into that.(retiring)

Meanwhile Weeden is just as good BTW and will win more game because he'll stay healthy longer than Kyle.

Call me crazy but I honestly believe that Weeden could play serviceable, albeit not great, football for us and get a win or two if Romo had to miss a few weeks.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt considering his first two seasons were spent in Cleveland where they literally have not had a QB with a good season since Derek Anderson's anomaly of a year and not a consistent QB since Bernie Kosar.

Orton is a good QB and is capable of winning games in this league.

This. I've never understood the seemingly insatiable obsession with the backup QB by some on this forum. When your franchise QB goes down, the season is typically over. This team isn't the Patriots.

If Orton decides not to play...we get some money back and the next guy in line steps up as the backup.

Maybe it is just me but I just can't bring myself to be too bothered about whether Orton is going to be here or not.

Just my personal theory, but I think that Orton is hoping that Dallas will "blink" and cut him so he can try and find another starting gig without paying back the cash.
