For a guy who couldn't get word to Jerra sooner than later if he was gonna stick around and for someone who I heard was not gonna attend voluntary camps, I'd say the best thing for Orton to do is to buy some Florida property and retire with the geezers.

If you are not fully in it like Romo, Witten, Dez then you should not wear the star.

I think if Orton comes back they'll have 3 QBs on the roster--I recall reading something to that effect coming from Jones. I would rather roll with 2, as I think the roster spot is more valuable elsewhere.

Can't wait for Kyle Orton to show up for mandatory veteran minicamp unless he retires (which I doubt). Maybe the displeasure over Orton will increase or decrease. Who knows, but It'll be interesting to see which way it flows.

Can anybody explain the Orton situation for me?

I understand if he retires he loses money and we get cap space back, right? What if we just release him? Will that be the same thing? What will the realistic scenarios be with him?

Personally I'd rather him retire and move on from him, but this is probably the least likely scenario.

#1 rule of NFL football: If your starting QB is lost for the season, it doesn't matter who your backup is.

If he retires, he owes Dallas $3 million and the cap space is returned. If he's released, he owes Dallas nothing, and no cap space relief is gained.

He doesn't want to write the check, but he doesn't want to play.

If Orton is not on the team this year, I hope it is because he has either retired or the Cowboys traded him for something.

I don't think Orton is guaranteed the backup job. He has to compete with Weeden.
