Last year Seattle pulled Pete "Freaking" Hunter off the streets, plugged him in that week and got by.

If our guys can't play at least as good with all of Training Camp behind them it will be a travesty. They should play better.

Translation...while these guys won't measure up to T-New's status, I think it's premature to worry so much about them that it gives us ulcers and makes us adopt the fingernail diet.

The problem isn't that our backup CBs can't play, or that they don't belong in the NFL, or that our GM is a joke because he didn't realize this. The problem is that they aren't as good as Newman. Few are, we'll be fine.

This team goes as far as it can upon how well the O-line opens holes for the RBs and keeps Tony Romo vertical. Anyone who thinks our defense will be Swiss cheese and offenses will put up scores like a pinball machine is out of his mind. All they need to do is play steady until Newman is back and the offense will keep things from sliding down the hill.

Stop the panic, the sky isn't falling, the end isn't near. The start of the season is near and even with some key player's dinged up, I can't wait. Bring on the Giants. It's going to be a long 11 days if the whining doesn't stop and I'm out of cheese.

I agree with every word! Bravo!

Sure, we can win with guys like Hunter...

We just have to get Bill Parcells to coach against us.

(That's a joke, Parcells disciples.)

Your making one presumption................that we could find another team, that when fully knowing we a depleted at CB, they would not go after them.(or us)...............dont think the Gints will just run dives off tackle all night
BP et all didint go for throat vrs their secondary at all in the Seattle playoff game...........it was like he was prepping them to play in 35 below Chicago in a couple weeks........

Hey-Julius finally broke out in that second half, which was one of the few satisfying thing about that game. Something really lit a fire under his tail-glad he responded.

But yeah-the fact that REX GROSSMAN torched that pass D a week later was even more discouraging.

Yeah, Wade instituted the scheme in San Diego and had success with it. Yeah, he was brought to Dallas.

And yeah, San Diego's secondary is inferior to ours.

But they were able to offset it with a front 7 that was one of the best in the league.

Can we say the same thing?

I am not saying the sky is falling.

But I am saying that San Diego's situation was different than ours. They have proven pass rushers in Phillips, Castillo, Williams, Merriman, etc.

We have Ware....and guys who theoretically could be as good as San Diego's counterparts, but for many reasons, haven't been.

There is a legitimate reason to be concerned over Newman. He allows our defense to do just about anything BECAUSE he can go one on one as well as anyone in the league. This allows us to be more free to blitz (and with more people) among other things.

We cannot do that with Henry, Glenn, etc. Yeah, we can roll coverages, double WRs, zone, etc.... but Newman allows the defense to be that much more diversified because of his abilities.

That, IMO, is why people are worried.

And IMO, that is why it is a legitimate concern. It sort of forces us into a particular direction.
