If our defense is so good?

Why are we fighting for our lives at the end of every game that we have played this year? Our young d-line studs and linebackers were supposed to rotate and keep everyone fresh. Our secondary was supposed to be phenomenal with the addition of Henry....so howcome we are getting scored on left and right? Especially be Washington and San Fran for gods sake. What's going to happen when we play a really good offense. I love our cowboys and am truly excited about our players, but something is wrong with our D and i am scared. :( :bang2: :(

No doubt D has made mistake but the D has also come up with some big plays and turnovers. I really think these guys will show improvement as we move on

We're playing a new scheme, we have five new starters and most of our returning starters are playing a different position. It's going to take time to gel on defense. Other than a handful of breakdowns, our defense actually has played pretty well.

Our defense is young and has a lot of new faces. A lot of the guys are also just learning the scheme. The defense is gonna take time to gel.

That was kind of what I was wondering. I was hoping that someone on this board more knowledgable than myself thought that the problems we have are fixable or if we were just outclassed / schemed? :starspin

Here's the equation for you mathematically challenged...

Slow Anthony Henry + Slow Aaron Glenn + Slow and horrible in coverage Roy Williams + bad, uncreative coaching = vulnerable to the long ball

You have to realize our main source of pass rush is a work in progress and if he turns out to be what he is expected to be then we will have a good pass defense to go along with our apprently already stout run defense.

Parcells already explained several times that Roy Williams can't be blamed for Santana Moss' touchdowns. Roy actually has been excellent in coverage this season.

Like someone else said, expect some growing pains.

The pieces aren't all there for the 3-4 yet either. The team needs another ILB and OLB IMO. James and Singleton aren't cut out for the 3-4. Fujita remains to be seen. Gotta find a place for Burnett that isn't backing up Ware.

I still think the blitz schemes have been pretty generic and the team might be better off in getting more of those talented linemen on the field more often.

who said it is "so good" and who expected it to be anything but work-in-progress most of the year?

our D was HORRIBLE last year BTW and we would be 0-3 but that is a different discussion ;)

But of course, it is a matter that can be debated.

I'm not sure what you're talking about...our defense isn't "so good"....checked out our NFL ranking after 3 games? We all love the potential and the youth and the improvement in the secondary, but anyone who thinks we have even an above average defense isn't looking at the NFL stats...we're in the bottom quarter despite playing the pathetic Commanders offense.

That's a load of crap, Adam, and the first I've ever seen from you....Williams may not have been singlehandedly to blame, but anyone watching the tape can see he was supposed to play deep and let Moss run by him...I'll lump Glenn in there too, but I don't buy anything about Williams being excellent in coverage anywhere but up inside.

I know that on one of the two Davis was supposed to handle his quarter and didnt so Roy tried to make up for it. At least if I remember correctly.

Go listen to Monday's press conference and hear Bill Parcells explain exactly how we play cover 4. He was explaining how Keith Davis SHOULD have given deep help on Brandon Lloyd's 89-yard TD catch against Henry. At the same time, his explanation also illustrates why Roy wasn't responsible for giving deep help on Moss' touchdowns.

If you understand how we play cover 4, you'll realize exactly why Roy CANNOT be blamed for the two touchdowns by Moss. As Parcells explained, "It wasn't really his play."

Many are young and inexperienced and few have played together before. It takes time.

I agree with you Adam.
Parcells did say that the Moss thing was not on Roy.
Parcells said something to the effect that Roy just saw what was happening (Breakdown on a teammate)and went to help out , but it was not his play .

Listening to Parcells throughout his coaching days tells me he dose not hold back or hide the blame if it was Roys fault he would have let it known when the question was asked.
