Am I the only one on here who would not tottally freak out if for some strange reason Owens got hurt and had to miss some time or possibly the season.

I see so many of you saying that if TO goes down then we will just be a average team.

How does a team with 13 Pro Bowlers all of a sudden become average if we lose 1 man.

Also people want to point out the game he didnt play in last year and how the offense struggled.

What about the Eagles games a week before that when we only scored 6 points and didnt even get a Touchdown. Owens played in that game. We just simply struggled down the stretch.

With the talent on defense alone we should be able to carry a very mediocre offense. If we lose Owens the offense should be more than capable of still putting up points.

The only guy that we could lose that would no longer make us the favorite to win the NFC imo is Romo. If he goes down it will be hard to overcome.

So how many of you would completely right us off if Owens got hurt?

I like your moxy. But don't be crazy. If TO goes down this team, as it stands now, goes from a very explosive, amazing, offense to a very pedestrian one.

But I'm ok with that. Do you guys remember the 1995 Superbowl team. Irvin and Williams and ??? Corey Fleming.

If Irvin had went down in 1995 we'd have been dead then too. This isn't the first time in history that Dallas has had to go with only 1 super recieving threat. And, IMO, Crayton is a vast upgrade at the #2 spot over Williams in regards to this comparison.

I think the Jags' running game is better and more consistant than the Cowboys - at least from what we've seen.

I would have to double-check on the defensive rankings for last season.

That is true, but i think our running game can at least get close to the level of the Jaguars. We have a bruiser in Barber (like a Taylor or G. Jones), and small agile player in Jones (like a Jones-Drew)

And if your defense can step up to the level there capable of, then why can't we be like the Jags. With a better QB, and a better set of WR's, even without owens.

And just as important cut down on the penalties. To me is was truely amazing to see how often Dallas would put themselfs in 2nd and long or 3rd and long and end up converting it. If you are forced to rely more on the running game then the team must cut down on penalties.

That's a good point. It got so bad last year when we had a big play, i had to wait for the chains to move before i would celebrate, because i just knew i yellow flag was going to be on the field

No doubt but as I said what was surprising is how often Romo would convert these tough situations to move the chains. No doubt having Owens is a big help but this team has got to do a better job of avoiding these penalties. I hate taking the same ground twice. :laugh2:

Yes. Hard to do and the opposing teams gets a 2nd chance to stop us. Drives me nuts.

True but now they know you have to throw it. When you are dealing with 3rd and 2 or 3 the option of run or pass is there when you are looking at 3rd and 15 everyone and their brother knows you have to throw.

9-7 at best. Yes.
Our 13-3 was very close to being 10-6 or 11-5 WITH Owens.

So in your opinion is this team overrated?

No. When all the pieces are in place and working we are what we are.... a really good team that can be great.

Take out one of the pieces and you cant complete the puzzle.

You are looking at it too simply. When you take an impact player off your team, it impacts everyone else on both defense and offense. If the offense has more trouble moving the ball, it puts more pressure on the D. Same goes if a player like Ware or Newman went down on D.

So basically as a team, we aren't as potent, and that would cost some wins over the course of a season.

I agree we wont be as good offensively but I just refuse to believe that we are a 8-8 team when ive seen teams like the Chicago Bears win with less.

Especially after seeing Philly go through the playoffs without Owens.

This team has to much talent to sink without Owens. If it does then we are Overrated and it is that simple.

TO is arguably the best wideout in football and a one man wrecking crew. The man is amazing and I have so much more respect for his talent level than I ever did when he was playing for other teams. Seeing him week in and week out doing what he does just amazes me.

I don't think losing a player like that and us suffering because of it is strange. It only makes sense.

The Bears won with a dominating defense and terrific running game.

Hopefully, this team can have that, but they haven't shown it thus far.

More history, the Eagles beat nobodies during the lowest point in NFC history. They limped through their last few regular season games (after Owens helped them lock up home field) and played some of the worst 'playoff' teams in NFL history.

They also had 'too much talent' to fold like they did last year. And that didn't stop them from doing just that.

Do they look improved? Sure.

But until they show they are, you can't just assume they are.

When Owens went down, the passing game went with him.

Nobody stepped up or filled the void.

It's more likely the same would occur this season than to assume that one of the same group would miraculously fill the void this season.

We're 'rated' by the healthy, quality players we currently have. We're not 'overrated' if one of those players is lost and the team struggles as a result.

I hope both the defense and running game are improved enough to where the team could withstand losing Owens.

I also hope we never have to find out.

My friend... we couldnt score a TD when he didnt play last year.
I dont want to know if you or I is right or wrong regarding TO not in line up.

I gotta say... I didnt like TO since day one... largely in part because he wasnt on our team. I bought into the bad stuff about him. Then he came here and I listened to ALL sides of the story. He wasnt the only one at fault.

With that said.... he is not a naturally gifted WR... he is a made man. He made himself what he is.

THAT in and of itself is what I respect about him.

If we can't overcome an injury to Owens and we just fizzle out then this team is tremendously overrated.

not necessarily, our O is a vertical passing offense, you need WRs like Owens to run it effectively, plus he makes room for the running game and underneath

We couldnt score against Philly either with Owens there. We struggled down the stretch with and without Owens.
