If the Big 12 added two teams...who would you want?

For this thread let's set the parameters that none of the teams from other Power 5 conferences can be added so no adding LSU and Ohio State or Arkansas and Florida state.

So Pick two teams you would like to see added to get the Big 12 back to 12 teams.

I would like to see two teams from the eastern section added to help WVU with traveling situations and split the conference to a east and west division.

However even with that said I think the team with the highest profile out there (even if they don't play on Sundays) is BYU. So I could understand that just for the Name value and fans nationwide.

Part of me would like to see one of the UCF or USF added to get a foothold in Florida. Currently WVU does a good deal of recruiting in there but I think it would be a good foothold for the Big 12. The problem is which one has the higher upside. At one time I would have said USF...Now It could be UCF.

The other three names that could make sense would be Cincy, Uconn and Memphis.

Uconn and Memphis would help add to the Big 12 basketball brand more than football as neither have a very good football program at this time.

Of those three Cincy probably has the best balance of Football and Basketball.

I'm not sure any help improve the league.
I'd say Cincy and BYU would be most likely.

BYU is probably the best candidate but the Big 12 doesn't seem very interested in them. Boise has limitation in their facilities and their draw outside of Football but geo wise, both make sense IMO. I suspect that not playing on Sundays is a problem for the Big 12. I mean, during the regular season, it's not an issue but if you go to a Championship format, it becomes one. I suspect it's more cultural where BYU is concerned. Boise is a small market but they do have brand appeal with Football.

UCF or Cincy might make a lot of sense as well. Both are in big markets and both would bring inroads to strong recruiting areas. Houston would be a nice fit because of location and they are improving their program but the question would be, are they improving enough? Memphis would be a nice consideration. They would allow recruiting in traditional SEC areas and they would be a nice fit with WV in the travel schedule. They have a good Basketball program there so it would be a benefit to an already strong Basketball Conference.

Cincy and BYU are logical but boring and don't bring money. ((which is why they aren't likely to happen unless OU truly threatens to leave.))

now standing outside the rules:)

All that said I do believe Nebraska and Arkansas make a ton more sense than people realize.
Nebraska hated UT running the show but the fan bases of both schools badly want to play Big 12 teams and a Big 12 schedule.
For Nebraska fans enduring midwest winters travelling to Minnesota and Iowa isn't much fun.
They loved travelling to Texas.

Arkansas considers Dallas it's capital city, lol. They travel like crazy here to shop, eat and everything else. (my Mom was born in Little Rock)
Arkansas also has to recruit Texas and especially DFW to win.
They don't have the high school programs to compete with Louisiana, Georgia, Florida.

I like the way you think.

I saw an article that suggested by 2024 we'd see the 5 major conferences separate and create one massive NFL type TV deal.
In that article they move Nebraska and Arkansas back to the Big 12.
So I can't take too much credit.

I also saw a Nebraska write up a scathing take on the conference schedule of Big 10 games for Nebraska versus what TCU had in the Big 12.
Needless to say the consensus on that thread was they'd rather get cheesed by UT than spend all winter in B10 country playing Indianas and Iowas instead of Texas and OU.
Even with Tech/Baylor/OKST you get exciting offense and warmer climates plus fertile recruiting soil.

I don't see Nebraska or Arkansas coming over. Big 10 and SEC are paying too much money. I don't think they will leave it, although, I would love to see Arkansas come home. They were originally a SWC team and it would be nice to see them back but not going to happen IMO.

Kansas State's Bill Snyder: 'Let's bring Nebraska back' to the Big 12
By Kevin Trahan
Jul 22, 2015

Snyder wants to see the league add two teams, though bringing back one that left just a few years ago probably won't happen.

With the conference sitting at 10 teams, Big 12 expansion has been a hot topic this offseason, and it will continue to be as teams like BYU and Cincinnati hope to get invites. At least one coach wants to see expansion, and he's been around the conference as long as anyone.

"Let's bring Nebraska back and a few others, one other maybe. I don't know that," Snyder later said to FOX Sports' David Ubben. "I know the programs I've seen mentioned, all good programs, all good universities."

The Cornhuskers agreed in 2010 to leave for the Big Ten, kicking off the national realignment movement. Since, some have wondered if they might have second thoughts, though Nebraska fans disagree. Those programs Snyder has seen mentioned likely include the usual names thrown around: Boise State, BYU, Cincinnati, UCF and so forth.

Assuming Snyder speaks for Kansas State, that's the second school to go on record favoring expansion, joining Oklahoma president David Boren.

Notre Dame would be great but the cost associated is probably not workable.

After dealing with them in the Big East and how they did the ACC.

The ONLY way I would let Notre Dame in is if they would join the League in all Major Sports ESP Football.

Exactly, but ND will not do that. They want the best of both worlds or, such a large payout that it makes it unworkable. Hey, I understand it. If you have something that everybody wants, you try and make it work for you. That's how ND sees it and that's understandable. Not every deal is a deal that can be made so by that same token, the Big 12 should do what is in their best interests and that may not be ND. In fact, I don't think it is at this point. The only way ND becomes viable is if they get to a point where they need to be part of a Conference. At that point, the discussion become more reasonable but that's not today.

Nebraska will never leave the BIG until the Big 12 can match the $ they get. BIG revenue shares are up to 32 million per school. It will go up even more with the new BIG tv contract up.

Lets get the SWC back together -- Rice and SMU.

Lord knows they have enough money to enlarge their stadiums, and their recruiting ability would immediately jump.
