If the Cowboys Don't Sign a Better Back Up QB, They've Lost their Minds

I don't like how Jerry gets sentimentally attached to players. It seems like once you get on Jerry's good side, he'll keep you around for a while even if it's detrimental to the team.

We've seen this since Emmit, and several other players.

People say it was one of the worst drafts for quarterbacks, and there's some truth to that. But it wasn't so bad that you can't go pick up one of the better prospects in last year's draft to be your backup for a while, or at least 3rd string to develop.

Carson Strong had a knee injury and was told never to play again. But he went back and played and played very well. Like 70 percent completion rating and has a freaking cannon for an arm.

Then, the guy that whipped us from Denver, Josh Johnson, is also out there, if you need a healthier guy without the potential for a knee injury.

I'm cool with them keeping one of those three guys. To me, it doesn't matter who, but I would suggest Greir or DiNucci if you just have to keep one.

I think we all know that it's entirely possible to upgrade at backup quarterback.

Yes, it's nice to be able release all of your QBs knowing that no one is stupid enough to pick them up so you can stash guys on IR.

But when it comes time to play a game, and Dak gets hurt, we're going to wish we had better players than these guys.

Enough with this sunk cost nonsense.

Cut bait and upgrade.

I hate to use such a cliche' term, but this is such a no-brainer.

LOL, how many "no-brainers" do Jerry and Stephen no-brain in a given week? Have you seen their offseason moves? Lack of offensive line and WR depth? If Dak goes down the season is over so this really doesn't matter. Either Rush or Greer can play well enough to win if Dak is out for a few weeks. In terms of boneheaded moves (or lack of good moves), upgrading the backup QB is low on the list.

I'll just say this.

There's a guy out there who many scouts thought could be a starter for an NFL team, and some thought he had potential to be a good one.

The Eagles are obviously trying to stash him on the PS. But when we all know what we have here, why wouldn't you try to upgrade your back up QB spot, regardless of the "lack of depth" at WR.

You think Gallup, Lamb, Fehoko, Turpin, Tolbert actually lack depth?

The biggest problem with the team is obviously tackle. But after that, I'd say the most glaring weakness is backup QB.

Why? Dalton was the best backup we’ve had in recent memory and was good for a whopping 4 wins vs mostly suspect opponents. Reality is, Dak goes down long term the season is over… the backup ain’t gonna change that!

Oh I don't disagree with you at all, I'm just saying I don't think them not addressing backup QB is what makes me think they've lost their minds, lol. Their actions and inactions this offseason have been just egregious.

this sort of sensible thinking will get you nowhere

please remember to refrain from this in the future

The only competitive advantage the Cowboys have over the eagles in 2022 (and possibly even Washington) is their QB. I really don't care who the backup is; there is virtually no chance of winning the east if Dak misses more than a couple of games. And frankly I trust Rush as much as either of the other two so I don't care.

This team has been horribly under invested in the backup QB position for a long time. They should spend a mid-round pick every few years on this.

There are 20 quarterbacks on the planet at any given time that are NFL caliber. After that, it's a bunch of warm bodies and prospects. Sometimes you see a capable one, but not often.

Especially these days, which is the worst I've ever seen it in the NFL. The quarterback position is incredibly week these days.

If Aaron Rodgers gets hurt, the Packers are done. Same for Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Joe Burrow, Matt Stafford, Justin Herbert, etc, etc, and Dak Prescott.
