If the Cowboys Don't Sign a Better Back Up QB, They've Lost their Minds

Streveler is the guy I was going to bring up. Great minds think alike.
I saw he was a cut but didn't realize the Cardinals wasn't his team anymore. I remember in that preseason game against the Redbirds the dude gave our guys a run for their money.

I wouldn’t bet on that. Granted none of the QBs we played in preseason looked very good but at least Cooper Rush won a football game for us last season and played very well.
That's something for us to hang our hat on.

If you didn’t bring in a better backup QB all summer, it makes no sense to bring one in the first week of the season. Once you’re in real game mode, how do you get the new guy up to speed when the backup gets almost no reps with the offense.
exactly and that is probably by tomorrow by cob we will have someone familiar back on the roster in that backup role maybe 2 or all three.

I don't like how Jerry gets sentimentally attached to players. It seems like once you get on Jerry's good side, he'll keep you around for a while even if it's detrimental to the team.

We've seen this since Emmit, and several other players.

People say it was one of the worst drafts for quarterbacks, and there's some truth to that. But it wasn't so bad that you can't go pick up one of the better prospects in last year's draft to be your backup for a while, or at least 3rd string to develop.

Carson Strong had a knee injury and was told never to play again. But he went back and played and played very well. Like 70 percent completion rating and has a freaking cannon for an arm.

Then, the guy that whipped us from Denver, Josh Johnson, is also out there, if you need a healthier guy without the potential for a knee injury.

I'm cool with them keeping one of those three guys. To me, it doesn't matter who, but I would suggest Greir or DiNucci if you just have to keep one.

I think we all know that it's entirely possible to upgrade at backup quarterback.

Yes, it's nice to be able release all of your QBs knowing that no one is stupid enough to pick them up so you can stash guys on IR.

But when it comes time to play a game, and Dak gets hurt, we're going to wish we had better players than these guys.

Enough with this sunk cost nonsense.

Cut bait and upgrade.

I hate to use such a cliche' term, but this is such a no-brainer.

We’re done with our starter. He’s a glorified backup.

Everyone knows I’m in the middle about a Dak. But when you make a statement like that, nobody who is knowledgeable about the game takes you serious.

Considering they have no backup QB signed at the moment, yeah, they have to sign someone to do that. I'm fine if it's Rush or Grier.

Im sure someone answered this, but Romo wasnt drafted. Everyone on the list was....but they forgot Mike White.

I understand the drafted part, but most post have underlying agendas. I was wondering if something was amiss.

It's like people just won't read. You ask me this and I gave you two guys in the OP, Strong and Johnson.

These guys aren't world beaters yet, especially not Johnson. In one game, he had a better outing than all three of our guys had over three preseason games and he did it against a decent defense.

I'm not saying these guys will blow you away, right away. I'm saying they are likely better prospects than Grier, DiNucci, Rush because to me, almost anyone is better.

I admit, I like Grier to some degree. But he was inconsistent. And I just see these guys as better prospects.

If you truly are interested, there's a lot of film on Strong on Youtube. I'm basing my assumption off of Johnson based off his performance in preseason game 1. He looked good for a backup playing with backups.

Grier looked good at times, but never consistently. DiNucci had the best drive of them all, but he was also very inconsistent. Our line didn't help at all. But I'm just not a big fan of these guys, even if it comes to a point where we just need them to get us through a couple games.

That's two, just that I can see. Ask around here, and some other guys/gals can probably give you some insight on players out there.
At the end of the day, are there any backup QB prospects available that will give us a better chance to win at a moment's notice if Dak is hurt? Rush has done that for the Boys once. There is no guarantee that any of the others available will be any better coming off the bench. jmo. If we have to rely on a backup to play more than 2-3 games, the season is toast anyway. again jmo.

Thats him. He’s been on my radar ever since. He looks like a much better backup option than the guys we’ve kept around.
