That wouldn't apply to players who were released, nor would it affect trades. Granted, that might limit the quality of players whom you could get, but it's not like you'd have to just sit on your hands if you're one of the final eight. You still could add players without having to worry about the cap.

Could you cut all the players you wanted on an uncapped year and free up space even if a cap went into effect the next year?? Lets say Dallas unloaded Flozell Adams and TO and traded Marrion Barber for a player of equal value at another position, would all the dead money hit on the uncapped year??? Could teams redo the contracts of current players and give them like 30 million roster bonuses and lock them up for multiple years?? Could Romo, Ware, Newman, and Davis being given huge roster bonuses and then play out their contracts on a low year salary???

No, because there is no acceleration of bonus prorations in an uncapped year. You'd still save the salaries and whatever else you don't have to pay them, but the prorations will remain as they were.

There is a rule that prevents teams from dumping huge amounts of money into uncapped years, then having small cap numbers after that in case the cap comes back. The unprorated portion of a player's cap number can decrease each season by only 30 percent of that amount in the uncapped year. For example, if you gave a player a $15 million roster bonus and $5 million base salary in an uncapped 2010 season, he'd have to make at least $14 million in 2011 (30 percent of $20 million is $6 million, so that's the limit of the decrease) and $8 million in 2012 (another $6 million decrease).

The way things are done now, the teams that have the best run organisation i.e. the Patriots are the dominant teams. Scouting, the draft, money management, is more important then ever.

If you get to the divisional round of the playoffs, you're severely limited in the ability to sign players other than your own.

I still think they'll make a deal before next season. And frankly, I hope they do.I don't want to see this become MLB.

The NFL has revenue sharing unlike baseball. Also, there are no guaranteed contracts in the NFL so if the cap goes away, the NFL won't crumble like baseball.

I hope the cap does go away permanently.

Do you see anything wrong with how baseball is run today? How would you like to be a team competing against the Yankees and the Red Sox year in and year out knowing that they'll be able to contend for a title every year just by spending $$$$?

It's not being penalized but leveling the playing field for everyone else. Personally, i absolutely love it that Arizona is getting a chance to play for the SB. Their fans and the organisation deserves it.

It's great when your team dominates everyone else for a period of time, but let's think outside the box and look at the bigger picture.
