I don't know. Maybe esp Meriweather. There's talk of them doing so. I guess you're thinking of Woodson. Just put the best player in the slot. Could be. Good thought.

I'm guessing they would draft a CB if they were going to use him like that. Give the rookie time to adjust to the NFL while playing the nickel and dime.

But you're asking a great question. The more I think about it the more I like it. You just have to get the right guy for it. I don't know. I would hope Ireland et al have already thought about that.

i hear what you're saying. it's a tough call because both nelson and merriweather have great coverage abilities...but there's been lots of concern with Nelson's intelligence and Merriweather's character issues. I'm not sure which would be the bigger risk..i'm assuming Merriweather would, although he hasn't been convicted of anything. I believe Merriweather WOULD be the better choice for Dallas because we need a "QB of the defense" incase Hamlin does not work out. I don't think Nelson has the ability to be a leader on defense when it comes to lining the players up in the right positions and making sure everyone knows what their assignments are.

I dont know anymore. I think I will leave the decisions to Ireland and Phillips. That means no Jones either. A guy can hope right?

Those seem to be the concerns people are having with both. In the end I don't see it affecting their draft status that drastically. Both played well on well coached big time college programs and excelled. People are just not going to pass up this kind of talent unless there are big red flags. Ala Moss. Neither of these have those although I can see Meriweather being crossed off some teams list. Period. But not all 32. To get the guy a team is going to have to pick in the top 40-50 at least and likely the first round. Nelson can't be too stupid either. Same logic for him. Not all 32 teams will pass him up. And some teams don't call on the FS to do anything but play ball. Their schemes don't call for a QB for the defense. Anyway we'll see by Saturday.

1) I really want a young WR, but I don't want a young WR over a young CB. Why? It's simple. Henry and Newman are both younger than Glenn and Owens. Aaron Gleen is probably in his last season, so we have to find a guy to replace him. Behind Owens and Glenn we have Crayton, Hurd and Austin. Maybe none of those guys can be a number 1 or number 2, but they have a legitimate chance. Jones and Reeves are never going to be better than a 3rd CB, if that.

2) Ginn would be nice. He would have Glenn like speed. But, I have serious doubts about whether he could ever be a legitimate 1st or 2nd WR. He simply doesn't have the size. He can be a good return man though.

3) If we are looking for a guy that can be a great return man and also have a possible future as a start and have an impact as a rookie, then that leaves just one guy... CB Ross from Texas.

4) I highly doubt we are going to take a safety in the first round. To the best of my knowledge, the Cowboys have only done that once in their history, and that was with Roy Williams. We brought in Hamlin to see what he has got and we have Watkins, and I don't think we are giving up on him yet. It would be silly for us to bring in another FS type player ahead of those two guys.

So, I really think we are going to take a CB in the first round. It makes the most sense and a CB will have the best chance of having a serious impact on the team this year, especially if he can be a return guy, like Ross can.

We can get a WR in the second round, this draft is deep at WR.

Dwyane Jarrett or Ted Ginn Jr.

It really depends on what you prefer, the better WR in the long-run, or the guy who can immediatly come in and win a few games by himself ala Hester

In that case Ill take Jarrett, not that I wouldn't have anyway. While it would be nice to have a great returner who can handle both KR and PR, I am content with the very good average field position that Austin/Thompson provided and I am way more then comfortable with Newman returning punt.

Give me Jarrett. Dude will absolutely dominate the redzone.

I've been reading up on nfldraftcountdown.com and it's a pretty darn good site. I think I've been able to narrow it down to who could be available for the Cowboys at #22. Assuming we do not trade down (which I wouldn't be against), who would you pick out of these guys at #22?

1. Aaron Ross
2. Chris Houston
3. Dwayne Jarrett
4. Dwayne Bowe
5. Ted Ginn Jr.
6. Robert Meachem
7. Reggie Nelson
8. Brandon Merriweather

I really believe one of these players will be a Cowboy next Saturday. At first I didn't like the thought of this guy, but he actually fits perfectly into our system. The bottom line is that we need more speed at the WR position. Dwayne Jarrett would be another Keyshawn Johnson, and Dwayne Bowe would be another Alvin Harper. We need a gamechanger. A player who can take it to the house everytime he touches the rock. Ted Ginn Jr. is my pick. Look what Devin Hester did for the Bears last season. He single handedly won games! Ginn Jr. can get valuable playing time in 06' but at the same time he won't be rushed into a starting role. Let him learn the system, and have him return kickoffs and punts where he is electric. What about you guys? :starspin

I take Ross and pick up a WR in round 2. I love the idea of finding another WR in round 1 with Irvin like potential, but when it comes to where we are right now, if we were to have an injury to Newman or Henry, or if Henry plays subpar and slips even worse than last season, our season might be down the tubes with the CB's we have behind those two guys.

From everything we have heard, Jones and Reeves are not guys who are ever even going to become #2 CBs; there is doubt they can even be really good nickel backs. While Hurd, Austin and certainly Crayton have a lot more potential to shine at WR. Therefore is makes more sense to go CB in the first rather then WR. Figure Revis and Hall will be gone; Houston and Ross are pretty much the only other first rd CBs. So one of them. I would love the idea of Ted Ginn for our return needs, but I think he will be gone. By the way, I love the line about claiming that college production will trump physical ability - ala Jarrett vs Ginn. BOTH of them produced well in college- Ginn has the speed and quickness and Jarrett has the size and strength. BOTH could be busts; BOTH could be stars. Personally, I usually go with the speed when I have to choose.

I'm right there with you. I don't like depending on a 35 yo 3rd CB either. Esp with our current backups.

I agree with a CB. But I'm not certain now it has to be a first round pick. I'll just trust Dallas to know which CB to take and where to get him. There should be more than one that will work for us.

I don't share your trust in Ginn or Jarrett. I do think they could both be stars in the league. I just trust other WRs more. But I could easily be wrong.

Hey Whcarm,

Good to see you posting. I haven't seen you around in a while. Maybe it's me who hasn't been paying attention.

As for the question, I'd probably trade down if I could. If I had to take somebody, I'd take Meacham or Ginn.

Jarrett, Bowe, or Meachum ..... That way we can replace Owens , I think Austin can replace Glenn as our speed guy.
