If this was Romo 3 years ago would he have found a way to play through the pinkie?

After hearing that Romo won't even attempt to play Tampa this Sunday and pretty much ruled himself out against the Giants I asked myself one question. If this was the unproven, 2nd string QB 3 years ago without the fat long term contract, 2 pro bowls, $10 million marketing deal with Starter, all the popularity of the league and Hollywood blonde on his arm, would he dive in head first to get his shot at the starting line up to play as many of these regular season games with a bad pinkie? You bet he would. I'd bet my house he would. What do you folks think, would he back then as opposed to now and if not, why?

Depends. It depends when he became a kitten.

Has he always been one? Did his contract make him one? Did his hollywood lifestyle & Jess make him one?

That is inconclusive. All we know is that he is currently one.

If it was 3 years ago Romo would be an unknown 3rd stringer still sitting on the bench.

I doubt Romo is wanting to sit out. But if hes injured hes injured. He could be a larger liability to us trying to play through the injury.

If the coach says sit ddown, you sit.

I dont understand this questioning his heart or motives.

Romo said he will sit out until after the bye week during tonight's show on inside the huddle. Jerry said it was up to Romo all last week before the Rams game if he wanted to play through it. 3 years ago Drew Bledslow was our starter and Romo was his back up. Last year Romo started and this is his 2nd year starting. 3 years ago he started 10 games out of the regular season. Yes, he was basically an unknown and that's my point. He would have jumped on pretty much any chance to start a regular season game and I don't think a pinkie would have held him back. We're fighting for our playoff lives now and suddenly there are no reports of him even trying t throw the ball like he was last week. Now that he see's the team go through that break down he has no input and wants no part of starting games because of his pinkie that he clearly said last week he could zip balls with "velocity" still. That's where I question if he's hungry or not. So, are you saying he would or wouldn't start with the pinkie under his 3 year ago circumstances.

Stupid thread.

Ignorant comment that holds no water. It's a yes or no answer. Elaboration is greatly welcomed and appreciated, but judging by your statements you don't strike me as even minimally analytical enough to think out the question. I think he would have played through the pinkie to get his shot at the starting spot. I'm one that wanted him to sit if it is necessary since last week but I'd like to be under the impression he wants to come back right away to help us to the playoffs. According what I heard from him tonight I am nowhere under that impression. Boy he looked concerned during the game too. Not.

The difference is 3 years ago if Romo was a bust and/or re-injured his finger it wouldn't have really made a difference, we were already struggling. Romo is now our franchise QB and there is a lot more riding on his shoulders for the long term. I would love for him to play Sunday, but if he can't I don't think it's for any other reason than the fact that he physically cannot get the job done.

Agreed.

To the OP, come on man. Ridiculous.

Yes-Parcells would have thrown him to the wolves like he did Anthony Henry in '05...causing further damage to his injury.

Again, he tried before the game against the Rams to throw the ball and it flat didn't work. When you physically can't throw the ball as a QB, you have to sit. So, he's sitting.

If Romo plays and breaks his finger where it has to be reset, that would require an operation. Plus, the healing process would go back to ground zero. He would be back to square one in the four week process. The Cowboys' season would be over for sure. If you play him against the Giants, three weeks into the healing process, and he fractures it more or hurts it again, the healing process goes back to week 1. The four week period starts all over. Then, the season is really over.

If the team lets Romo's finger heal, he can play after the bye. It will not be too late to make a run. I am taking the positive approach here. Heck, the 2004 Cowboys were still in it in December, and they were terrible. This team has the talent to make a run, but they have to get in the playoffs.

Even if Dallas loses its next two games, Romo and other injured players are going to come back. I'm not giving up on the season. There isn't a dominant team in the NFC, and funny things tend to happen in the NFL (the 05 Steelers, the 07 Giants, the 06 Colts). None of those teams were expected to win it all, and they did it. They were all left for dead during the season.

With Tony Romo, you always have a chance. If he plays and hurts it again, the Cowboys season will be over for real.

Evidently, Kosier shouldn't have played at Green Bay. He broke his foot again.

They tried to play Newman, and it back-fired.

Roy Williams broke his arm again.

Playing Spencer on special teams after coming off a knee scope was not a smart move, imo.

Would he have played knowing he wasn't established and that would be his opportunity to be a starter 3 years ago? He was our backup QB by the way, not our 3rd stringer. Bledslow was our starter 3 seasons ago. People seem to be running away from answering the question. I where Romo's jersey every game, have the home and away. I am very surprised to hear him like this. If you look at him that season he got to start those 10 games in place of Bledslow in comparison now he's definitely as enthusiastic. Whether it's because he's not enamored by the big light anymore or just being a savy vet I don't know. But that was the humble and hungry Romo the majority of the fans fell in love with. Right now he's sitting on a bench during the game with absolutely no emotion. Maybe he doesn't want toshow any because the mediamight turn it into something and he knows it but I'm just not sure about his motivation right now. I'm not sure about this whole teams moxy right now and he's supposed to be our leader.

I didn't even think of the Parcells "play with injuries" factor. Definitely a new wrinkle. So do you think Romo would have wanted to sit back then to heal the injury instead of taking his shot at being a starter? You know last week I wanted Brad to play to fix Romo up at least another week. A lot of us thought it could be a 2 week thing as opposed to 4, not that we're doctors. I'm not here to crap on my favourite player, but I have my opinion and want others. As a fan sometimes I look to the others to provide me with insight to clear my head. I do it for others also. I appreciate your insight! Thank you!

Very good insight. Greatly appreciated! last week I wanted Romo to sit. I do share the same sentiment in regards to if he does make the injury worse and what that means for the long term and his career. Nonetheless, I am worried about Romo mentally. I just want to know he's still the hungry guy he was 3 years ago. He really embraced the opportunity to be a QB for this team and Ive heard reports he's feeling ridiculous pressure and when I hear him give interviews he doesn't seem like himself. Maybe I'm out to lunch, who knows but I'm not a professional but a diehard fan. Once again, your input I highly respect and I thank you for it!

Thanks. I must say I read Rafael Vela's new post about Romo's injury. Vela quotes a doctor in it. It gave me new insight about the injury. If he can't function, it is best to sit it out and let it heal. I truely believe that he would have played if his hand would have let him.

Don't worry about pressure. It will be gone. This team has been left for dead. Tony Romo will respond.

If you can get Romo, Newman, Spencer, Felix, and Kosier back, you have a fighting chance for sure.

Well deserved. I am a member of Rafael and Raul's site Blue and Silver Report and Raf is awesome. I agree we have a chance if those players mentioned get back. Just Felix and Kosier would be such a help to Brad. I'm not even depending on Pac and probably shouldn't even bring up his name, lol.

how could anyone question Romos want to..? saying he isnt hungry ...are you serious? really?

he may be the only heart left on this team? :bang2:

he cant win either way if he plays and gets hurt worse...we hear " he was stupid to play"

if he plays and dont play well.....we hear "he sucks"

if he dont play...we hear "he has no heart he should play through it"

if I were Tony i would want a trade out of this ungrateful pit........all he has done since hes been here is good things ...all he gets from fans and media is a constant beating

Some of you might feel Romo is being selfish or cowardly for not jeopardizing his career for us, the team, and this season. I much rather have him come back healthy, even if we are 4-6, then to rush a comeback and have him lost for not only this season, but longer term.

Maybe some thought Romo was made of steel or some immortal, but he is telling us he can not physically play at the level that will be effective to win games. If Romo could play, he would.

Now now, didn't say Romo isn't hungry but yes I am questioning if he is still as hungry as he was 3 years ago. You are right that he can't win regardless if he plays or not. In all honesty I don't want Romo to play, I only want to be ensured he is doing everything he can to play at an effective level asap and because he wants to get this team to the playoffs. I just want to see a huge desire to get to the playoffs out of him and he doesn't need to play to prove that to me, I just need to hear the endless desire to get back on the field. I didn't hear any of that tonight on Inside the Huddle. He barely smiles anymore, even before the losses. He's joy for the NFL's competition iswhat made him so special I fear the day if he loses it. IF, remember I said IF. LOL!
