If we got a 1st and a 3rd for Pickens

I don't think the trade-off is worth it, as you still need a dominant offense to win in this league. Getting rid of Pickens down-grades the offense. The team just needs good value defensive players to surround guys like Williams with.

Because Waddle is signed cheaply for the next two seasons. Pickens requires a serious financial commitment but no one seems to want to account for that major difference. All they see is that Pickens is better than Waddle so Dallas ought to be able to get more.
He's cheaper but not cheap. He's due 23M in 2027. But, he's not as good as Pickens either. Waddle's best year was 4 years ago. Pickens is younger and coming off an all-pro campaign.

Do you look things up or just have hot opinions? AJ and Devonte combined for a 25M cap hit in 2025 when they won the super bowl. If you want to look a contract value, AJ and Devonte' had the 11th and 17th ranked contract values at WR. Thats not even close to what Dallas is looking at if they resign Pickens to a longer deal. Dallas already has the 3rd highest paid WR and Pickens isn't looking for less. So, try your math again.
Cool. Dallas can do the same thing with cap logistics early in Pickens' contract.

The point is that Philly is NOT paying top of the market contracts to its WRs, and nobody has ever considered Devonte Smith a legit #1. He's a nice #2 on a reasonable contract. The only team that is trying to do what we are doing at WR is Cincy and i'm pretty sure they don't know what they are doing either.

They weren’t yet paying both. Smith’s extension starts with the 2026 season. And they’re considering unloading Brown.
Doesn't matter, it was still something like $9-10m.

I'm sorry what cap space does Dallas not have that they can't pay 2 WRs? They don't pay anybody.

Cowboys fans want cap space just for the sake of having it. It's really stupid.

What about the less than two million due to him this year? That counts. No signing bonus needed. Miami already did that.

Pickens is going to require something like 5/100 with 70 guaranteed and 40-50 immediately. That’s a significant difference. Yes, I realize Pickens is better, but that’s not the only factor.

This is pointless.........

** I have read more than one nugget suggesting a 2nd rounder is the best we could get.
** Jerry, Stephen, Lamb and Dak have made it that they all want him back.
** Honestly I'm not sure Jerry would take two 1st round picks for him.

They were both paid in the top 10 by AAV when they got their extensions. Brown was I think in the top 3. Both were in the top 11 in 2024.

Before the run on WR extensions in 2024 after Devontae signed, I think it was top 5.

Assuming Pickens signs a contract similar to Ceedee's, his cap hit would be around $9M in year 1. Lamb's restructured cap hit is $19.8M next season so that's $28.8M combined so that's not that far off from AJ/DeVonta's $25M.

These guys want to get rid of proven talented players for a few draft picks for Jerry to waste.

Best player he has drafted in the last decade he traded in 4 years because he got his feelings hurt.

Dak was just fine without Pickens. He actually had his best season in 2023 with no Pickens. Stacking 2 top paid WRs works nowhere bc you can't build the roster depth required to compete with so much cap space going to WR. If we trade Pickens for a Waddle like package, then we could use one those picks on a WR to replace him on a cheap rookie deal.
The teams in the NFC West and North are much stronger now than in 2023. Which teams knocked the Cowboys out the last three times? 49ers...Packers...NFC West, NFC North. More teams in the NFC are better now than in 2023.

I mean, top 16 first and 3rd? Sure.
Pick 32 and 96? Probably not, but maybe.

Worse.
We seen the results on offense with Pickens. Even with what some fans think are horrible OT's.

Stay with the proven result. Work on the defense. On paper the defense has improved.
With 2 - 1st round picks and a 3rd. They can improve eve more.

Yes...but that trade has fundamentally reshaped the Dallas defense and its philosophy. It's building from the inside out...not outside in. Jones stumbled into it yes...but it's still the present reality. Jones values loyalty very highly and once Parsons made it known that he no longer wanted a star on his helmet it was the beginning of the end.

When? The last time we played football we won 7 games with the worst defense in the league.

Everything else is just conjecture.

Would the offense be better or worse if we used the 1st from Pickens to draft a top Left Tackle and a 3rd on the best available WR?

Then we could still use our other 2 first on defense.
Keep Pickins. What the combo of he and Lamb accomplish together is absolute magic for the rest of the offense. This year will REALLY be something special offensively but we MUST keep Pickins.

Remember what Stephen said about tagging him........." we just couldn't take a chance on losing him." Meaning there is little or no doubt in his mind another team will try to sign him to an offer sheet that includes TWO 1st round picks.
