If we got a 1st and a 3rd for Pickens

And you have another problem. Pickens has to sign the tag to be traded. He doesn't have to before July 15. I just don't think that you will be able to do anything with Pickens before the draft. That means any compensation lands next year for the team that wants him. I also don't think he will fetch what some people think he will. The potential salary is just too high. And it's far too early. Jones and company aren't really talking much at this point (at least according to reports). Moreover, they are notoriously bad for doing anything fast when it comes to big contracts.
If it doesn’t happen before the draft. It will not happen. Why would they take any deal after the draft.
When they can have him play this season. And go through it all again next year.

Wasn't micah traded after the draft, and we're now going to be using the picks we got for him THIS year and next year, when we could have traded him before/during the draft???

Different situations.

Micah was under contract on his 5th year option.
He was not on the trade radar at that time. It was the fans and the media that stirred that pot.
Micah chose to hold out. Under contract.

Pickens is not on the trade radar either. He is on the tag. There needs to be an offer for him to get the draft picks. Which are automatic.

He would only be on the trade radar after he signs the tag, and then only if Dallas wants to try to get draft picks.
They already said they want him here.

He was not on the trade radar, are you sure of that????? I think there were internal discussions about it, but nothing serious at the time

Would the offense be better or worse if we used the 1st from Pickens to draft a top Left Tackle and a 3rd on the best available WR?

Then we could still use our other 2 first on defense.
We’re going to use the other two first‑round picks on defense no matter what.

Honestly, I don’t trust Jerry or Stephen Jones to get the draft right. We already have a top‑three wide receiver that defenses have to game‑plan for. Giving that up for draft picks—guys who are unproven and could easily miss—just doesn’t make sense.

I think the new numbers on the contact for the Seattle WR make is a little more likely that Pickens holds out. I kinda hope that happens to some degree and forces a trade. I’d rather have the picks than Pickens.

As far as expenses and contracts when people complain about the cost of Pickens & Lamb isn’t the elephant in the room 60 million at QB. Especially when you see the SB featured Darnold & Maye neither breaking open bank vaults .

I don't know how many times this needs to be said. Dak's average annual salary is nowhere near his cap hit.

And it's ridiculous to use this past Super Bowl's QB's as a reference point. Darnold was a bargain free agent pickup that had previously been discarded by the Jets, Panthers, 49ers, and Vikings.

And Maye is still on his rookie contract.

Exactly my point . If you’ve got a defense look how far Darnold & Maye ended up . Dak had one of his best years yet 7 wins . I’m hoping the 26 defense can back up the expense / talent at offense.

Something could theoretically happen on Draft day. There could be a handshake deal with a team who have a lower 1sr round pick and a need at receiver, that if we’re wiped out on defense at 12, we trade Pickens for pickin’s…

Don't be surprised if some team might pay a 1st and 2nd rounder for Pickens. It could easily happen!

Depends. Do we draft Guyton (our last 1st round OT) and Tolbert (our last 3rd round WR) with those picks?

Draft is always a crap shoot. If you guarantee me that we hit on both picks and then also use Pickens money elsewhere I'd say sure it makes our Offense better. But, we don't have to make our Offense better, we need to keep the Offense the same and make our Defense better if we want to be an actual contender. So don't break the Offense and just go out and fix the defense by drafting the two best defenders at 12 and 20 and sign/trade for another starter there as well.
