If we were a bit more active on free agency, would we need to be this active now?

Hankins and TY Hilton aren’t replacing injured players. These type of signings probably should have occurred in April.
My prime example is DJ Reader. Bengals signed him for 13 mil/season, while we were out goofing around w/ Poe/Haha/McCoy. And there was also some CB we released.

For the same money, we could have had a top 5 disruptive NT. Cincy doesn't make the super bowl last year w/o him, he is that good.

Basically, what's really been messing up our FA signings is not having people w/ football minds in charge. MM has been a huge breath of fresh air in this area.

Over the last few weeks/months, seems like there's a new player happy to be a cowboy. If we were this active in the off season, would we need to be this active now. Yes I know injuries are the biggest issue.

It would certainly have been more expensive.

Because of our cap situation when injury pop up and Cowboys are in a position to be able to address the area
This is true! I know the Jones' get (and deserve) their reputation of being cheap. But you can't deny that saving cap space has helped them sign players in season and help the roster.

You can't predict injuries during free agency, it's not rocket science.

I somewhat agree, I watch too many team overpay in FA market, I think Cowboys are trying to be sensible as well. For instance they looked at Jamal Adams but price tag way to high and has not worked out well for Seahawks. Wagner I would have loved but 5 years deal for a 32 year old LB? how smart is that?

Teams can't be 100% prepared for injury issues. There are only 53 spots plus a few players on IR that are protected from other teams.

The concept of signing players during the season is a plan that they've had long before the season started. They've signed or traded late round picks for players in the past few seasons when they needed help. It's part of the reason they keep cap space available.

It’s a young man’s game, you have to win through the draft. Yes you need veterans. But basically stay young like we have been.

I agree. and while there have been FA I would love to get the cost is often big and while it is easy to say Jerry and Stephen are cheap when they are handling the cap it is not year to year it is 2 and 3 years down the road they are looking at and the impact of these signing. Dallas has been drafting very well and using FA to fill in gaps with guys on 1 to 2 year deals, they are not failing in the draft and looking at other teams star players who become FA

Cap boy is reactive. He isn’t smart enough to be proactive.

If we were a bit more active on free agency..UH?

Even if the Cowboys were more active in Free Agency early on, Injury's still are going to happen.

You have to ACT when Injury's do happen and the Cowboys have done that.

So, being more active in Free Agency early on isn't going to solve what might could have been on Injury's.

So your Thread doesn't make any sense at all...NUFF SAID.

hankins was an in season trade.
Hey what if they sign beckam out him on or he doesnt even play in the playoffs he gets 20m a yr plays every game and they gets 3rd round comp pick!! Thats what they r doing if they sign him if you dont think so look who our comp picks are. DAK SCHULTZ DONOVAN WILSON TYLER B LAST YEAR CED WILSON ALSO MIKE WHITE. Now Clarke!!They play the comp game well!! No one really is looking at what they do too. Great value. They complain about losing a Gregory or not signing a von miller. You have to look at how they let go a backup tackle Parnell and hot Dak. Track it its working and could be some of the reason for the jump to back yo back 10 win seasons also now playoffs

Not sure how much more active they could have been with the money they currently have but I would like to think they could have been at least a little deeper in some of the current positions of need. But that's not the Jones way, in other words, "We like our guys"

:(

I was very vocal this off season about our lack of signing free agents.
I was especially disappointed we did not sign any offensive lineman.
Then Tyron went down and we were fortunate to sign Peters
There is a lack of offensive linemen league wide. Peters was a good signing. I heard Paul Alexander talking the other day on NFL Radio about running camps in Africa to find line talent and get them into school in the United States.
