If we're trying to get better, why keep the same guys?

The Dallas Cowboys - including current free agents - have as a team collectively won 2 wild card playoff games in the last 7 seasons. Yes they have made the playoffs 4 of those 7 years, but is this a mix of players we just can’t afford to lose? Sure some of them are worth keeping, but don’t we need some new blood, new leadership, a new drive to take it to the next level?
  • Serious Question: If we are trying to get better as a team, be more competitive in the playoffs, and transform this soft culture into a tough playoff tested team, why are we so committed as an organization to keeping the same guys?
  • It would be understandable if we had won more playoff games with these guys. We want to “run it back” with the same guys as if all we need is another chance?
I would like to see some cap space dedicated to some new players who have been on teams that have won lots of playoff games.

I’m not saying it has to be a complete roster turnover, but can we just not continue with the “we like our guys” mantra that has dealt us two wild card wins in 7 years? If we are going to get some valuable cap space, I would like to see some new blood brought in.

Otherwise are we not just doing the same things and expecting different results?
IF!!!!! you already know that IF is a "looser"(jerrah) word

Did Coop not turn our season around? The only position that has the more weight is the QB. Don't get mad because the FO didn't have good pieces around Coop. I've never seen one player besides a QB transform a team. So it's not that fact I don't understand what your saying. Your thought process is delusional. Consensus across the board even after Coop left was the fact he was a good pick up.
So you're OK giving up a 1/3 for one half season of success? Delusional is thinking it was a good trade. And what's wildly weird and hilarious is that you give Coop full credit for one half season, but remove all credit for the next 2 crapp seasons. Is that cherry picking or even worse than delusional?

You must hate Coop? What is it?

Not even a little bit. Not the slightest bit personal. Coop is a good player and an excellent route runner.

I hate giving up multiple high draft picks for players we have to pay right away, and are often not here long. And I absolutely hated the trade because 1 WR was not going to put us over the top.

At least I understand our disconnect now. I hated the trade, you love the player. That makes sense.

It was not a bad trade because of Cooper, it was a bad trade because it was a bandaid on a monstrous problem and cost us way too much.

Hey, they signed a game changing RB today!! This guys so good he peaked as a rookie 4 years ago!

Dude your just a Coop hater. Just admit it and move on in life.

Stephen saw this thread and decided to just not to keep anyone nor sign anyone.

It's a win-win

it'll never be good with any of you the we like our guys thing we let them go and then you still have a problem with it look all teams let hundreds of guys go yesterday how else do you think they ended up on another team everyone's losing players it's free agency they're going to have to fill those holes and not necessarily get better I don't care what they look like on paper..

But not keep anyone? last I checked they signed

Wheat, OSA , Sieg, Hoffman, Bell, Thomas, and and there's a list of futures they signed Included Malik Davis and I don't know what really that means but they got signed. PS types

they picked up Williams and Jones...

Yes, Jlew loss was the one that hurt,

Gholston and edgoa were backups.no big deal..

that's day 1, 5 months to go.. Parsons will get done and more players coming.

Blue I mostly agree with you here. We are certainly not done in FA and there are some good opportunities still in front of us.

But why does Jerry wait and wait and wait on signing a guy like Parsons? Either sign him early (already too late for that) and save cap space or trade him to another team for draft picks and more cap space.

In the NFL being proactive is always best. Waiting is losing.

New Football season, same old story for the front office. Signing players shouldn't be resigning, Crazy! I predict a 6-11 season.

You guys insist this is a Jerry Jones issue there are plenty of examples of guys getting contracts done quickly quietly.

how do we know this isn't the agent or player?!
I mean you always are quick to judge the Jones family and some for good reason,
but you're not there you're not in the meetings, you're not on the phone calls ,you don't know what's holding this up ,blaming them for having players with agents that say no we're not signing early unless you give us X amount of dollars holding them hostage, like this is the number and we're not moving off it, that is not how you do business...
I hate to break it to you they art of negotiation isn't 1 large demand with no compromise, and sometimes that compromises takes time.
There are examples all around the league of other players not signing early and having to hold out to get their money or they get traded.. So again I realized some of this might be the Jones family in some situations but when I see OSA take a fair deal for both sides when I witnessed Diggs just quietly get top 4 money, boom contracts done top five money, no hitches, no waiting,
then I know this is not always the Jones family, and you all just hate them and I know it so you're never going to give them the benefit of the doubt and in this case, I will, what if Michael Parsons came out and said he would take less doesn't need to set the market but what if his agent says that was a bad thing to say and he's holding it up, maybe the philosophy changed from Micah's side, and now Jerry sitting there holding his crotch because now they got to restart this whole thing.
You realize there's a reason they have agents, right?
that they're not going to sit here last year and take 32 million, I know you went there with Prescott on multiple occasions acting like his agent wasn't going to be aware of the market three years down the road they were not going to take $10 million less & or two extra years just because it would have been better for the team...
you didn't realize those situations are three sided; agent player and ownership... They are not delusional, they are they know what the market is going to do, they have a pretty good idea of how the cap is going to rise, and where the market for say five of the top players at the positions are going to be up for deals and sometimes, they're the ones who are refusing to sign these early deals.
We don't know that they weren't offered early offers, I know we read a lot of stuff that comes from social media from people that are supposed to be in the know but they're really not nobody's pretty to private conversations between a lawyer, yes, most agents are lawyers, so we're not privy to private conversations, it stays right there.
so little tidbits and breadcrumbs we get are just really rumors and feelings just from amounts of information that were released or this SM posturing.

He isn’t going to just hand him a record contract and announce it without fanfare. Has to be some sort of spectacle made of it. Headlines. Controversy.

Scenes from the next episode of Jerry’s circus….’will Micah not show up to camp??’

He knows quite well that people are talking about it not being done and he isn’t going to shut that off until it’s milked for all the attention it can get.

He knows damned well it’ll cost more in time, but he isn’t letting go of the above just to save a few bucks against the cap. The attention is more important.

You can’t convince me Jerry is trying to get better

There’s 2 agendas in the NFL

Make money
Win ball games

You already know where Jones is

Different players and still everyone is *****ing ! If we kept our own player s people would be *****ing about that !

Different players only matter if they’re better. I don’t think that’s the case so far, but I’d love to be wrong.

Why should we as fans have any confidence our GM and son know what they’re doing when it comes to building a serious contender for a SB? I’m open to new ideas, lol.
We shouldn’t. Ideas are fatuous in this scenario.
