If you can chose a position to draft a HOFer.....

You wouldn't take Jonathon Ogden in his prime??

You said right now. Right now is not what I would consider Jonathon Ogden's prime.

I should have clarified..right now for this team with Jonathon Ogden in his prime..AKA fantasy.

Long Snapper.

I'd want to be known as the only team in the history of the league to have a long snapper in the Hall.

I had to be sarcastic becase this is such a ridiculously easy question.... QB.

Dale Hellestrae should be in then, he was the best ever at it. 13 straight seasons without a bad snap (in the regular season anyway). If you have ever deep-snapped in a game you would know it is a very difficult technique to master. It is equivalent to shooting a 3-point shot in basketball between your legs and Dale made it several hundred times in a row without a miss!

The ball has to go to a specific spot, 15-20 feet behind you, that is only 2-feet square, and at the right speed. Too slow and the timing is off, too fast and it goes through the holder's hands.

Oh, and you have to do this while guys are about to jump all over you and you have to block someone as soon as you get rid of the ball. It is amazingly difficult and to watch Helly do it over and over perfectly for year after year was incredible!

I used to be the long snapper (along with my other positions) when I played semi-pro ball in the late 70s and I was pretty good at it but I have a real appreciation for what Helly was able to do.

If ever a specialist belonged in the HoF it is Dale Hellestrae.

Im not even sure Jonathon Ogden is better than Flozell, sans false starts, at this point in his career and Flozell will get into the hall too.
Jonathon Ogden retired last year.

Flozell is not a Hall of Famer.

kicker has to be number 2 then right!?
:D
I think Kickers should not be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, they can go to the soccer Hall of Fame also known as the piece of crap Hall of Fame.

Left Tackle.

Oh yeah, to answer the original question: Quarterback.

WR is the most overrated position in football, you don't build a team around a freakin WR, I don't care how good he is.

QB and O-Line, followed by D-Line, then RB, LB, TE, DB, and finally WR.

Oh, and you have to have a reliable long snapper. :D

When you played for BYU...did a kicker kick your butt?

I am with you Hos! You will notice that I did not include kickers on my list. Bunch of damn pansies!

If I coached an NFL team we would NEVER kick except to kickoff and I would use a lineman for that (like the old days of Lou Groza or Lou Michaels). We would go for it on 4th down every time and if we didn't make it then they would butts would be kicked! If we can't convert then we shouldn't be on the field anyway.

I used to play this old PC football game (Playmaker Football) and I never punted or kicked FGs and I won all the time so I figure it would work in the NFL too! :D

Shut up...!

:laugh2: I'm trying to be serious....

I'm going to say MLB because I am a big fan of that position and think a stellar MLB can do wonders to disrupt any offense. See Lawrence Taylor (minus the drugs of course) :)

A big nasty NT...that is what I would like.

So, l guess even if a PK could help you win a Super Bowl, you wouldn't want one on your team anyway? I mean, lineman aren't going to nail 50+ yard FGs. If you do all that work, come from behind to get yourself in postion to win a game, and your kicker helps you win it, how does that diminish what everyone else did on the field? It's a team sport. And no... I never was a PK... heck, I'm not even that athletic, lol.

Also, I agree that the no-brainer choice is to have a HOF QB to build around, but we should clarify and say that the 2nd (arguably) most important position in Tackle (right or left)... I mean, your HOF QB could be Boomer Esiason ;)
