Can not believe how many responses in this thread are not Emmitt Smith!

Especially with how the question was phrased. Past player in his prime for this team.

Emmitt held on too long chasing Payton. Too many fan's opinion of him is skewed even if ever so slightly by the declining years of 1999-2002.
Its easy to forget just how special he was from 1990-1998.
Especially 1990-1996 when he was superhuman.

I don't believe that is how the OP intended it to be phrased. I believe he intended to ask which ex-cowboys player would you bring back during his prime to help this years' ('08/'09) team. Helping this year's team being the key question. Which player would help our current squad the most?

Hence the lack of Emmitt responses.

To me, Emmitt enjoyed most of his success (even in his prime) in the second half of games. You might even argue 4th quarter. That team got up on opponents and then slowly just kept there foot on the throat, pounding Emmitt in late in the ball games. The key, to me, was the defense shutting down opposition and the passing game creating a lead. To me, we would be better suited to address the passing game and supplementing MarBar with another back who has break away ability. If we brought Emmitt back, that would be like having another Barber type running back on the roster. Great back but I don't know that he would be a perfect fit with the offense we have today.

Darren Woodson. His skill and leadership would be perfect for this roster. Otherwise I'd have to go with Larry Allen or of course Emmitt.

Also Leon Lett in his prime would be pretty nasty penetrating from one of those 3-4 DE spots

Sanders based on needs, but Haley and Ware???? You wouldn't NEED cornerbacks.............tough call.

Herschel Walker. Do you guys remember when Deion and Herschel were our wide-outs for a few games? 1996 I think?

That is the perfect answer. Then we can trade him to Minnesota for a boat load of draft picks and build a dynasty again.

Larry Allen. In his prime he was the most dominant player at any position that we have ever had.

Larry Allen in his prime. He could play LG or LT and would just change the complexion of the O-line. If they re-signed the Hotel you could really gain yardage running to the left. Then throw in Davis pulling on occasion and that is a lot of bulk on the left side of the offense leading Barber down the field.

Larry Allen here and now taking Kyle Kosier position with the quickness, the Left Guard problem you can fix it, starting at left guard larry allen is listed, man that's fixed......

Plug HOF RG Larry Allen into this line and dominate the run and pass. Barber would have some huge holes to run through.

larry allen was with the cowboys for over 10 years and dominated from day one, and not a peep from him, team player, dominant, versatile, hands down who i would go for. prime time would be number 2

Not sure if it's been mentioned by Darren Woodson.

I think we'll fix our CB woes in the draft, and Leon Lett would be interesting in a 3-4 I'd have to say Woodosn.

If I got a second choice for offense, I'd say Michael Irvin for the reasons already stated. Fiery leader and would be uncheckable next to TO

Toss up. For this team, you have to say Irvin or Deion.

One of the greatest WRs in history, or THE greatest cover CB in the history of the NFL.

I go with Deion, and wouldn't mind Bob Hayes next to TO.....

and put him on the 2008 Cowboys team/roster, who would it be?

My choice: Deion Sanders. Not just because of his superb corner abilities but, in a pinch, he could play wide receiver too.

Either Deion or Lilly.

Your choice?

Either Deion or Lilly

I can't believe there isn't more support for Michael Irvin.

On a team that desperately needs an infusion of fortitude and passion, how can you ignore a player who had the combination of talent, heart and drive as he had?

And what exactly would Charles Haley do on a 3-4 with DeMarcus Ware already on it?
