If you could have it your way, who would start?

This is just for kicks, non of us, no matter how much we pretend to know, know who's the better man when it comes to the young guys/ most players. Outside of the obvious that we watch ( guys like Carr, Nolan, Twill ect) we can all somewhat agree they are not that good at what they do or are not consistent.

But if you had a say so over who starts from the Defense-Offense, just purely off what you seen, little or a lot, or that you think to know. Who would it be? And why?

I would love to see everyone's take on the defense, mainly the Secondary.

If we were rebuilding id say start the young guys, but after going 13-3 last year, i expect more than that. We gotta go with Brown, Scandrick and Carroll unless one of the rookies is just that good in preseason. I wouldn't mind taking a look at Revis. We have the money for a one year contract and his experience and leadership may prove valuable to the rookies.

Honestly I see Awuzie beating out Carroll anyway.

Nickel:

Heath/Jones
Brown/Awuzie/Scandrick
Lee/Smith
Collins + 3 others on DL

I figure a lot of snaps will go around to the DL guys, outside of Collins and maybe Irving (since he's effective inside as well).

I would play the best and healthiest players as starters with the understanding that they can always get bumped to second or third string if they become a liability. I expect growing pains with the rooks but it can't be so bad that we lose games...

LDE-IRVING/CHARLETON
DT-M.COLLINS, CRAWFORD
RDE-LAWRENCE/TAPPER

MIKE-HITCHENS/J.SMITH
SAM-WILSON

CB-SCANDRICK/LEWIS
CB-BROWN
NICKEL-AWUZIE/SCANDRICK (Scandrick moves from full-time outside corner to just Nickel)
DIME-LEWIS/WHITE

SS-HEATH/AWUZIE

As for OFFENSE, every position is pretty much set, I think, except:
LG-COOPER (I love a good comeback story)
RT-COLLINS (Green has the talent but I don't trust him to stay healthy)

On the positions that contain two players separated by a slash, I would start the first player there Game 1 but somewhere during the season would want to see the next player win the job

So you're putting Rico Gathers on the field at the expense of Cole Beasley and going with some Asian version of Jason Witten.

Adding on to what most people have thought to be the starters..

Look at how much faster the back end of the defense is with this lineup opposed to last year.

Brown instead of Carr, Awuzie instead of Mo, Heath instead of Church. The entire secondary is 4.4 or better. If Jaylons healthy, that's not only a huge boost in speed and athletic ability, but youth as well.

To start the game yes. Does him being in there for the first play of the game mean Beasley won't see the field? What is the first play of the game 100% of the time?

Brown did a OK job last yr. But he was a PI magnet. Why because he couldn't stay with the speed. Think Brown will end being the dime guy

I'm equating starters to the guys who play the most at the position not how the team may line up on the first snap each week.

I want Beasley on the field not Gathers.

Start(this means the bulk of plays) the best 11 on defense. If that is Scandrick and Carrol, so be it. If they are playing "decent" but the team is at or below .500 thru 2/3 of the season, then let the youngsters(secondary) take over to see what they have.

I would love to see a total youth movement but not at the expense of wasting a season. I expect for them to make the playoffs easily after last season's progress.

Same goes for the offense, best 11 plays. I don't want to see Rico being forced if he is not ready and also would like Zeke to stay in on 3rd downs more often.

Just don't get cute, play to their strengths and that is rushing the football!

My apologies to all but it's much too early, at least at this juncture, to decide on the Dallas starters. Kindly accept my apologies for being a "Debbie Downer." As I recall, training camp was created for that cause -- we all know that has been established for good reason.

For the team's sake, here's hoping that the staff examines each and every Cowboys player with intense preparation to determine those most deserving and best qualified. Doing so might well carry them as far as they're capabilities will allow, both this year and beyond. Those on defense, especially, could potentially benefit from some highly astute decisions. Some extremely interesting decisions are hanging in the balance. Best of luck to the Dallas staff in fulfilling that painstaking and important task.
