I am an Engineer. Ended up as a Production Planning Manager. I have a director that I report to and I will always have a manager/director/VP that I report to until I am a CEO. Of course this is not gonna happen and I will always have a boss.

If I could redo it, I would pursue a job/business where I could be the boss of myself. A doctor, dentist or a lawyer. Maybe even I could be an entrepreneur if I could.

Probably stay on the path to journalism...also focus more on the creative side of writing.

Very interesting. Everyone around me tells me to go for Law but I have been defiantly committed to accounting undergrad (even lawyers tell me this is smart, separates you from all the comm. poli sci. & pre-law, lawyers).

Being my own boss has never really been a keen desire of mine, but I can obviously see the perks. Branching off into VC or IB is my current plan. Those are two of the only career paths where retiring before 50, very wealthy, is the norm.

I dunno...

I think any career choice where the goals are: a lot of wealth in order to retire early... may not be the best career choice. You could be headed to a 25 year career of not much fun. While I don't believe fully in the "Do what you love and the money will come" I think the enjoyment aspect has to be balanced with the financial rewards. If you need 6 week vacations a year and a goal of retirement by 50-- you've probably chosen the wrong field.

Keep in mind one doesn't need to be "very wealthy" to have a solid financial foundation. In a lot of areas of this country earning $100K a year will give you good living... especially if you're controlled about your housing and automobile needs.

I would suggest reading "The Millionaire Next Door" by Thomas Stanley.

Well i'm in Law Enforcement so any "career" is better than that right?

Living in a job full of laws, rules, policies, etc., i'd love to do it all over again and be my own boss.

I would have gotten into a mathematics major in college and work to become an actuary. If I didn't like that, I would then set myself up to work as an Air Traffic Controller.

Cult Leader.

This thread is where we pick something other than what ultimately became. Try again.

That said, I've heard all you really need is about 2 or 3 dedicated people who will absolutely obey every command and you can start recruiting.

It's all about sales and marketing– message to market match.

You tailor your message to the group that you're trying to influence.

It's almost never too late to pursue your preferred career.

For example, my older sister went to med school at age 33--after her three boys were all in school.
She has her own practice now at the beach in Kitty Hawk , NC.
