I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility, but I had an experience with a more upscale townhome complex that claimed it wouldn't allow them because the dishes marred the "looks of the immediate community." Whatever that means.

Actually, the FCC has ruled the dishes cannot be banned.

Check this out to see if it gives you relief.

Nope, NFL Network/Directv channel 212 only. It will also be broadcast on Sirius Home (123) and Away (126). And over Westwood One.

So they will not even have it on the radio? On the ticket?

They aren't banning them. Anyone can have a dish. It has to fill the property's requirements though. They cannot force a property to allow them on a roof. They cannot force them to allow it to be mounted to a wall. If there is no place for the pedestal the resident may be out of luck. They can have it, but where will they put it?

It isn't feasible for many renters.

It may be carried by Dallas radio, but Sirius and Westwood One are satellite radio companies. (Edit: I'm not so sure about Westwood One though)

I made a nice-looking little stand out of PVC only about a foot off the ground, painted it and the dish a nice dark matte green, and put it in my flower bed. It's barely noticeable, and the apartment complex hasn't said a thing. They can't, because it's not attached, and they can't prohibit it.

As someone said above, many complexes have deals with the cable companies in town -- it could be something as cheesy as giving the owner or manager free cable at their house -- so they will tell tenants that they can't have a dish. But they can't prohibit you from putting one up as long as you do it the right way.
They can't deny you even if they provide Cable for free. Although why someone would pay for the dish when they have free cable is beyond me.

But they can restrict you to having it in an area that is called "exclusive rights" areas. Like your balcony for example. It doesn't impede anyone but you on a balcony. So you can have it. If you don't have someplace exclusive to put it...

...they can restrict it.

For those interrested, I wil be broadcasting this game. I'm not sure if I'm use Sopcast or not. The software has been really buggy. If not, I'll direct broadcast it. Unfortunatley, if I do it that way, I'll only be able to broadcast to about five people. (Bandwith). :(

Direct TV isn't an option for everyone, unfortunately. I would love to give them my money for Sunday Ticket, but my complex doesn't allow the mounting of sat dishes.

Then I think its time to move.

Oh, and on the radio -- Westwood One is an over-the-air radio company, too. The game will be broadcast all across the country even over the air. It can almost always be found on an AM station somewhere. Try 870 from New Orleans if you live anywhere in the south or midwest. And of course, all the regular Cowboys stations will have it. WOAI 1200 in San Antonio is a good one (as long as there's no Spurs game that night.)

They can't make a deal like that. It's called a kick back and it's illegal. Where do some of you come up with this stuff? :laugh2:

My apartment manager flat out admitted it to me...

Just because it's illegal doesn't mean it doesn't go on! ;)

Then I know they don't work for us because they'd be fired.

He did?

If the Cable Commission got wind of that, they'd press charges. No joke, that is illegal.

This is a little locally-owned place run by a realtor who just got into the business... They may not even have known it was illegal. Or if so, (s)he obviously didn't think to not tell me. I didn't even know that *was* illegal, though. But I bet it goes on more than you think with litttle companies, especially in smaller towns.

I better shut up now before the black helicopters start circling. :(

...and think it is ludicrous that your cable provider demands you pay more to get it while they supply you with myriad channels that THEY own and pay nothing for; then this site needs your attention.

iwantnflnetwork.com

Sign the petition that goes out to the ears who need to hear you.

If this doesn't work let's all call the Cable providers non stop and tie up their phone lines. I'd love to see a nationwide movement to disrupt their operations.

I want to stress again what I said above. Most of the channels that you receive in your basic or expanded cable packages are channels that your cable supplier owns.

If that doesn't gall you...it should.

I understand why people would blame the cable companies, but please dont forget the nfl blackballed all the cable providers when they signed an exclusive deal to sell the nfl sunday ticket package to directv.

How much money do you think they lost with that? They never had an opportunity. So I think both sides are wrong with the nfl network, the league and the cable companies.

If it goes on I guarantee you it is privately owned properties, not big management run ones. They know the laws and every employee has to know about accepting "perks."

You know who I work for and I guarantee we would not allow it and would fire anyone who tried.
