Let's say you came into some money. Enough to do something you have always wanted to do. What would it be?

Me, I would like to build my dream house and do as much of it as I could all by myself. I've built several houses, but always for other people and I had to go by their plans and wishes.

I'd like to build this on an isolated 10 acres where I can build my own shop, have a horse again, and a great big garden. I'd line the property edges with citrus trees and maybe some pecans or walnuts. I'd like to have my own well so I can keep my trees and garden watered but not have a huge water bill.

I'd get up early and work as late as I wanted to. Play golf on Saturdays, watch the Cowboys on Sundays. I might even consider living in a motor home until the main house is habitable. That way if we wanted to take a vacation we could.

I would like to have a dog again. A great big nasty looking lap puppy that I could take for walks and scare the natives sounds just about right.

The house would be spectacular once it was done. I won't bore you with all the details, but I will share with you my front door.

Well besides the standard big house...maybe a castle with secret passages:laugh2: and the cars...

I would have a studio loaded with guitars, drums and recording equipment.

Depends on how much money I got...

If we're talking MONEY, then I'd buy some land, built a 15' wall around about 2 acres of that land, then build a mote round that, then build my own castle within it (I'm serious too).

And I'd restore a few muscle cars.

I'd open up a jockey shop dedicated to building bad *** old school rat rods and bikes. I'd turn a ton of old, unused pans and shovels into low, loud choppers and bobbers. I'd build a skate park in the back. I'd spend the rest of my time fly fishing and enjoying a few cold Pabsts.

Depending on how much, I'd pay off my credit cards and student loans. That alone would make life 100 times better. Then maybe do some minor upgrades on my house. New landscaping and new paint on the exterior.

After that, I'd travel.

Once I have my house and shop done, the next thing would be to build my own chopper. I'd even buy one of Jesse James' Diablo kits. Just the experience of doing it would be fun for me.

Its the only way to go IMO. I've got two Triumph builds I'm currently working on...so I can turn some profit and get myself an old shovel project going. I love building these things.

When you get around to doing it, you should check out a few of these builder sites...usually a ton of good info...and even more cool bikes.

The one I usually lurk on:

the casa:
nice little ranch style house with a finished basement and a un-attached heated 5 car garage on a 10 acer lot. get 1 american pitbul terrier, 1 jack russel terrier , and 1 black lab. They would be my "home land security".

cars:
a 69 Camaro ss, and 89 Iroc-Z Camaro, a 02 Camaro SS, 07 'Vette Zosick.

misc:

Half the basement would be dedicated to the 'Boys so in order for that it would be a nice 72" rear projection LCD/DLP tv with full 7.2 surround sound full with a lazy boy in front then 2 love seats ont he side of the lazy-boy, which would only be used for watching Cowboys related items (draft/preseason/reg-season/post season/ past season). the other half would be the "party area" a 82" rear projection LCD/DLP tv with 1 xbox 360, 1 wii, 1 ps3 and a full 7.2 surround sound with speakers so loud they blow girls clothes off (only girls, guys clothes stay on).

I'd have a little "barn" out side for a work out area. and i'd flip a coin for this house to be in either Tx or Zona as its Warn year round

Time and money...

well....

Keep my House in the DFW area. Build a new home where I am from in upstate ny for the summers and parts of the spring.

Start my own production company and make documentaries and try to be affiliated with some element of nfl films! Also make independent films.

And I would like to spend a year or two sitting beside an accomplished editor and learn the trade from one of the best.

oh and a boss 302 mustang....

I've passed many an idle hour playing this game, Hos... I'd build my own house too (well, not me personally), find a piece of property on a bluff overlooking one of the famed seven bends of the Shenandoah River... I see it as one of those ultramodern, steel, concrete and glass deals, and each room would have a different "theme"... the living room would be in a Civil War theme, specifically art and memorabilia associated with the Army of Northern Virginia... I see it with art deco furniture... the dining room would have a Scotland theme, because of my Scottish heritage... I see it with Scottish pine furniture... and the country kitchen would have a genealogy theme, i.e., lots of family pics, and some things associated with the clan MacKenzie... I see it with Appalchian red oak cabinetry, and stainless steel Jenn-Air appliances...

The office would have a golf theme... if I was took sufficiently rich, I'd actually have an office, a library and a meeting room, the office theme would be great golf courses, with an emphasis on Augusta National, Pebble Beach and Saint Andrews... the library theme would be great golfers, like Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Byron Nelson... the meeting room theme would be classic golf clubs... these rooms would all have oak paneling, and antique oak office furniture... a big ol' rolltop desk, and a partner's desk with leather writing surface... barrister's bookcases, that sort of thing... and a big Chesterfield leather sofa...

My master bedroom would have a Texas/Desert Southwest theme, featuring collections of Hopi kachina dolls and Zuni fetishes (bear fetishes, naturally)... the master bath would have an Alaska theme, tribute to the state I was born in... the furniture would be custom made mesquite...

I'd have four guest bedrooms, each done in an Asia theme... one bedroom, I call the China Black bedroom, and it would feature black lacquered furniture with an antique opium bed... I think that would be cool... a second bedroom would be the China Red bedroom, and feature mostly red lacquered furniture, and a Chinese wedding bed (an elaborately carved canopy bed)... a third bedroom would be the Japan bedroom, the fourth would be the India bedroom, lots of teak furniture...

I've never been to the Orient, but I just love Asian art...

The real fun starts when you go down to the basement, or the playpen... :D

My game room would be the Dallas Cowboys room (featuring a Brunswick Centennial pool table, and an antique Wurlitzer juke box), my exercise room would be the Texas Longhorns room (with a 4 person sauna and a 500 gallon aquarium), the pub would be done in a Jack Daniels theme, the bathroom downstairs would be a Baltimore Orioles theme... and if I got took really rich, I'd have a 4 lane bowling alley in my basement, with a kind of 50's kitsch feel to it-- car sofas, that kind of thing... I'd also have a private cinema, that might seat as many as 30 people, with state of the art electronics, done in a movie theme-- lots of posters of old movies that I loved...

I'd also have a large garage, done in an automobilia theme, with at least a half dozen muscle/performance cards and SUVs... there would be more if I could afford them...

At times I think it would be cool to have my own 9 hole golf course on the property, but if I have that kind of money, I'd rather go around and play a bunch of different courses... it would take a lot of grounds staff to maintain a golf course anyway... I would, however, have a large putting and chipping green somewhere on the grounds...

What's sick about that is I've even got crude blueprints drawn up for each room, each floor... I had a LITTLE drafting back in high school... and I've got folders of printouts of the kind of furniture I'd contemplate for each room in the house... ditto with the kind of home electronics I'd want...

I'm gettin' all excited again, if I hit that 113 million lottery tonight I'm gonna get started on all this tomorrow.... :lmao2:

Believe it or not, there is a company out there that makes castle replicas, with all the modern amenities... they offer a variety of blueprints...

And yeah, it would be great to have a recording studio in your home...

I could see a castle built on the shores of Eagle Nest Lake, up in northern New Mexico...

If you're gonna build a really expensive, elaborate show place, you pretty much need the kind of privacy fence you're talking about...

I like your theme room ideas Bear. I don't have any decor ideas other than my office or sanctuary. That would be Cowboys themed. Most of my thoughts on the house I would build are around the actual construction of it, most of which would bore people to tears.

Stuff like...R-33 insulation in the walls (including interior walls) and R-38 in the attic. 5/8" sheeting on the roof instead of 1/2" and 2 x 6 exterior walls. Low-E double paned glass windows with interior blinds and rolling shutters on the exterior. Mostly bay windows with oak bench areas that serve as storage as well. Dual cooling. 5/8" thick gypboard instead of 1/2". Skylights and ceiling fans. Every room having adequate phone, cable, and electrical. Solar power for as much as it can be used. Maybe an intercom system so people don't have to yell across the house. A CCTV system of the grounds. A well thought out kitchen with adequate cabinet space and no dead space. A pantry with an extra refrigerator and a freezer. A BBQ area outside.

I definitely would set up some straw bales for an archery range. Maybe even a field for some skeet shooting since I want 10 acres.

I'm not even looking for a big house. The land for privacy is more important to me than the size of the house. A great big house just means more taxes to pay. I just want it to be energy efficient and stuff like that. One level is perfectly fine with me. I don't care to have to go up and down stairs when I get old. I'd like a shop big enough to park a few cars and still have room to work. This may sound funny, but I'd like to have a roofed area that could be like an open air pavilion for picnics or dances. When not used for that, park a boat or tractor there. Maybe even the motor home. But all of that could be removed and speakers set up for a dance.

The garden is important to me. Nothing like fresh corn on the cob. Better yet growing all the fixings for my own homemade salsa. I'd love to have at least one avocado tree. Might even like a greenhouse so I can have fresh veggies all year. I wouldn't even mind some chickens for the eggs.

Definitely want a horse again though. That seems strange to me because when I left the ranch life behind I swore I would never be drawn to it again. I haven't worn a pair of cowboy boots in over 20 years. I find myself looking at them and hats as well. No matter what, I will not have cows though. Maybe one that someone else takes care of until it reaches time to slaughter and fill the freezer so I have fresh meat. As long as it's not me that has to do it. The horse would be a different story.

Well, I'd probably build a place for me & the Mrs. Get a couple of BMW M6 convertibles. Add some goodies to the Kawasaki. Buy some horses.

And then I'd buy my dad a decent car, pay off his mortgage, set him up so he could retire. Ditto for my sister and brother-in-law. And my cousin.

My two greatest joys in life are: 1. my wife and 2. helping others.

I forgot to mention that I would have enough acreage to have many dirtbike trails along with quite a few jumps. Me loves some dirtbike!
