If you had your choice and why ?

Thomas had a better sophomore year only because Berry was used more as a in the box safety, like a 4th LB his JR year. If Kiffin played him like he did his first 2 seasons, he'd break numerous records and put up much flashier numbers. Just compare there freshmen and soph years. Berry had 13 INT his first 2 years, Thomas had 10. Berry had more tackles, and he even got to the QB. More impressive, look what Berry did as a true freshman compared to Thomas.

They are Longhorns fans most likely, so no matter what you say it won't matter. The fact that the overall consensus is Berry over Thomas, means nothing.

And instead of them realizing we all like Thomas and would be happy with him, but realize Berry is better, doesn't sink in for some reason.

i was compareing both of their SO. years to each other. they had the same amount of solo tackles which i think is is more an indicator of ability at that position than assisted, and ET had more FF than berry so ill wash that with the three sacks berry had as a SO.

like i said berry is the choice but it really is that big a gap

i am a longhorn fan but i think the gap isn't as big as people would have you believe and i think i have made a valid argument supporting my reasoning, no?

Why compare there soph years? Why not compare both there freshman and soph years? If you did that you would see Berry is a ways ahead of Thomas. Like I said it's sad in a way kiffin wasted such a talent this past year. It would have been something special to see had he played that centerfield role he was acustomed to.

Tell me about it. By no means do I have anything against thomas, he'd be a great consolation prize, but it isn't even close with him and berry.

they had the same solo tackles their freshman year as well, yes berry was better had more ints and the whole works that just shows me he came in as a better player and ET made a tremendous improvement from one year to the next so his upside may be more, berry may be a difference maker from day one in the NFL while ET may be solid day one but has the potential to be as good as or better(or not), they are both great talents and i would love to have either of them

ET was average his freshmen year. Didn't look like anything special at the time.

But his Sophomore year he blossomed into something else.

I actually think his NFL career may be this way too. When the guy learns the plays and stops thinking and starts using his athletic skills than its over. Kinda like Jenkins.

agree, but right now berry is better and pretty much nfl ready and even if ET ends up being better it wont be by much so you wouldnt be sorry you chose one over the other, i think we could win a championship with either of them

the hole in your argument though is that more passing equals more int opportunity and berry in the smash mouth conference still nabbed 7 ints his sophomore year.

you like Berry, I like Thomas....both are great, kind of like Coke and Pepsi. You really cant go wrong with either.

I think the bonehead mistake in the TT game his freshman year, where he took the wrong angle and it allowed Crabtree to score the winning TD, woke him up. Cause since then, he has been spectacular.

BTW, Aaron Williams looks like a future stud as well. I do like the Brown kids, but Williams just looks special. The Texas secondary is going to be fun to watch next season.......it would be so much funner if Thomas would have stayed.

No, it really depends on scheme here. You can't say that because you play in a passing conference, you are going to get more INTs. It depends on responsibilities.

It makes absolutely zero sense for anyone to indicate that one player is far better than the other and it isn't even close. Is this most of you guys' first rodeo in the NFL draft? Heck, players drafted in rounds 2-7, even undrafted players turn out sometimes to be the best players at their given position. Now obviously for arguments sake if we were comparing Berry to an UDFA type of safety most would argue that Berry is by far better, but these 2 players are both legitimate top 15 prospects in the entire draft. It is definitely much closer than some of you make it out to be.

Just for the sake of the argument, Why don't we take a look at passes broken up (that is probably a very important stat for a db) between the two. Berry has a CAREER total of 17, while Thomas had a TOTAL of 17 two years ago AND 16 more last year. Maaaaaajor advantage Thomas.

true but the volume of passes seen in the spread offense heavy big 12 yields more opportunity regardless of scheme or responsibilities, opportunity being the key word. id wager that ET saw around 100+ more passes than berry the past 2 years, at face value thats 100 more chances to get an int, in reality the number is smaller based on scheme and responsibilities but it would still be more than what berry saw.

What scheme does Tennessee play? Did Berry play a true FS or did they play more Cover2 which basically dictates a different coverage responsiblity? You can't say that the number of passes allows for more opportunities. If your playing a Strong Safety and your responsibility designed to support the run, more so then play the pass, then it doesn't matter. You can't just say that there are more passes in the Big 12 so it means that you should have more INTs. It depends on how each were played. I know this. I know that when Thomas was a Freshman, Texas had two starting Freshman Safeties and they played everything in front of them. There job was to make the tackle and keep everything in front of them. They didn't play the ball in the air much because they were inexperienced and Texas didn't want to get beaten deep. Now, I don't know how Berry was developed because I don't watch nearly as much Tennessee football but I don't think you can point to his 7 INTs in 2008 and say that it is indicative of anything. He had 2 INTs last year. Thomas basically played two seasons at UT and he had 2 INTs his Freshman Year and 8 his Sophomore year.

If your asking me, I believe that Berry is probably the better prospect over all. At this point in his career, he is the more complete prospect. However, I don't think there is any question that Thomas is the better cover Safety at this point and probably has more upside. JMO of course.

IMO, from what i've seen, Texas has a lot more future NFL talent on the defense in 2010.

They got 3 corners that I project will be drafted in the first 5 rounds.
