It's partly Jerry's fault that era ended. He was part of the group that got the salary cap era started because they (Jerry) wanted to save money and cut expenses. He destroyed his own franchises ability to compete when he did that.

I did not know Jerry agreed to cap. I always thought the NFL wanted no part of a couple rich owners like Jerry having his way with payroll. "parity" they said.

Either Jerry panicked or Goodell forced his hand. It makes no sense to play hardball and then at the end cave to every demand. Especially when Jerry’s leverage wasn’t going to kick in until the season started.

That ship has sailed. Forget for a minute that Lance isn't an NFL QB so that part is just way off base IMO. You just gave Dak a mega deal and he has 4 more years left. Sure you could cut him after a couple if you want to take a huge hit, but that isn't happening. So what do you gain if you find out another player is a decent QB? Lance is a free agent and isn't getting a starter deal here. If he plays lights out all you do is get more in return as a comp pick. You going to play a guy half the season when you are 3-4 just for that?
